For sale here is a very rare and unique vintage late 1930′s Gibson EH-100 or 125 style amplifier. I don’t know if this is a prototype 6F6 power tubes? First made in 1935, followed shortly thereafter by the 6V6 and finally the 6L6. , or if it was built for a music store in the late 1930′s. But there is no doubt that it has the same basic components and layout of Gibson amps of the late 1930′s. Utah speaker and matching branded 200 ohm power resistor. Geib Chicago (the company that made all of the early Gibson amp, guitar & other musical instrument cases) gold embossed shield on the inside cabinet along with the Western Electric, ERPI, AT&T gold foil label. It even has the original Geib made case cover! I bought this over 30 years ago, but I never got around to restoring it until now. It was packed in a box that I forgot about actually. Ok, so I wanted to repair and replace only what was absolutely necessary for it to work. I replaced 3 capacitors (see photos 6 & 7), a few vacuum tubes with NOS tubes, and the electrical cord (left it non-grounded as originally designed). All of the original resistors still held spec when tested. It now plays and sounds quite good, really. But, if I were going to keep it, I would probably replace the remaining 4 original capacitors, which are all 80 years old now. However, I realize that many collectors want everything as original as possible, so I’ll leave it as-is. Note for Geeks: Check out the photo of the original (still working) Stackpole Volume pot; Date of Manufacture… Just an FYI that the one (Stackpole)Volume control knob on these style of vintage amps only controls the volume for the Microphone input. The Instrument input, which makes the guitar sound better when you run through it, has no attenuation, meaning you control the output volume with the volume knob(s) on your guitar. Please examine all of the photos, which are of the actual amp for sale in this listing, carefully and ask questions if you have any. Final word, this amp is a ridiculous bargain only because it doesn’t have a Gibson logo on it, even though it rolled off the same assembly line in the 1930′s.
