Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Vibro Champ in near mint condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original RCA & Telefunken tube set and factory paperwork. This little Blackface-era Fender wonder delivers five watts of pure Class A tube tone. A surprisingly loud amp with the original alnico 8 speaker, this Vibro Champ has just the right amount of glassy, sparkling clean tone before pushing into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive at about 4 on the volume knob. Dynamic, responsive, and absolutely huge sounding when you put a microphone in front of it, it’s hard to beat the Vibro Champ for pure simplicity and great tone. And of course, Fender’s lush sounding tremolo circuit has a strong pulse and wide range of speeds, perfect for subtle shifts in volume or machine gun chop. The circuit is nearly untouched, with stock Schumacher transformers that date between late 1966 and early’67. The preamp has only a few new capacitors to ensure the amp is operating optimally. The tube chart is extremely clean and fully intact, with an “QF” code which translates to June of 1967. The tubes are all original vintage valves from the likes of RCA and Telefunken. The speaker is the original Fender-branded Oxford 8 with a clean blue Fender label on the alnico magnet and a frame that shows virtually no wear. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are remarkably clean. The faceplate is near mint, with its full compliment of witch hat knobs. The stock handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and chassis straps are all intact, and the hardware shows only light surface patina. The tolex shows barely any wear, and the grillcloth still has plenty of sparkle to the thread. This Vibro Champ is an ideal example of Blackface tone that sure to delight both discerning collectors and serious players, complete with the original tube set. Factory paperwork includes the original envelope, full color catalog, and schematic. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! This listing is for a Vintage original 1965 Fender Showman (8-ohm version) amplifier. This model of amplifier was used by pretty much everyone back in the 1960s. Represented historically in photographs you can see that The Beatles had them in Abbey Road studios, Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and many more. The amp was Fenders top-of-the-line and most expensive. Its basically a head version of a Twin Reverb, but without the reverb. It sat upon a large 1×15 cab in which the single JBL 15 speaker was mounted to a baffle that was equipped with a tone ring. Reverb would have been achieved by adding a Fender reverb unit to the mix. The cab in the photos is of the same time period but from a Dual Showman, which is a 4-ohm cab, and although it is also for sale, it does not run with this head. Its just there to show the look of the head on a similar cab. This particular head has had some restoration cosmetically but the electronics look to be mostly original, see photos of the inside. The handle, corners, and knobs seem original but the grill cloth and Tolex covering, face plate and piggyback mounts are new. I dont know the amplifiers personal history so Ill just explain what I can. It does turn on and function. I didnt notice any scratchy control pots, but it does appear that the overall volume is a bit low for an 85-watt, all-tube amp. Ive had other Showmans and Twins and know it should be a lot louder. It sounds nice, just not as loud as one would expect. Im not an amp technician or capable of making a judgement call as to whether it is the tubes, biasing, or whatever more elaborate explanation it may be. The tremolo works if you have a footswitch, but I think the intensity has to be turned up about halfway before it kicks in. Speed dial works fine. Anyway, this is all I know, really. Just a nice-looking, partly-restored vintage Showman that may need a visit to an amp doctor for a tune up, but would probably be well worth the extra attention. All sales are final.
