One Used Vintage Stereo Pilot SA tube amplifier in very good cosmetic and working condition. Since restoration I have played several hours per week for 2 years. No noise or issues. See it playing on youtube: search Pilot 232 Dexter. One of the best regarded EL-84/6BQ5 tube amps of its era! Excellent sound and surprising power capability. Using vintage dual table, luxman preamp and ADS L880 speakers the sound is lush, warm and precise. Bench and audio system tested. Professionally Serviced with new electrolytics as needed using audio grade components. Working and sounding fantastic. As with all vintage amplifiers they should be operated with Variac to select proper operating voltage (117VAC). And always connect speakers before powering on amplifier. Tubes are from the era and among the most desired. Tube complement: 2x12AX7 – telefunken vintage – germany 1×12AU7 4×EL-84/6BQ5 – vintage amperex bugle boy – holland. 1×GZ-34/5AR4 – vintage amperex bugle boy – holland. I have for you a genuine ESTATE item… Please note the photographs. Marantz Model 8 Stereo Power Amplifier. Two-channel/stereo vacuum tube amplifier, 30 watts per channel, Serial No. 1954, built by the original (Saul) Marantz Company, Long Island City, New York. Based-on what Ive been able to find out. Essentially this Model 8 is two Model 5s on the same chassis. From the estate of the original owner, who, incidentally, was the son of a McIntosh executive; this unit was found alongside another Marantz tube amplifier, a Model 5, in a New Jersey estate. This Model 8 was subsequently taken to noted Marantz authority/repairer Bristol Electronics where it was vetted, tested, evaluated and sympathetically gone-over in general. It was brought-up very slowly on a Variac for 8 to 10 hours. Tubes were checked, tube pins and the bias tests switch were cleaned. RCA jacks were tightened, adjusted, etc, etc. Overall it was tested and gone-through to a point. A set of four (4) rubber feet were replaced (now black). 2 1/2A Slo Blo Fuse replaced. A used, nicely matched EL34 Tube fitted. Replaced original parts (the old brown broken feet and fuse, etc) were kept and will accompany the unit for the sake of originality. While this unit has been tested and works, there are some items that were recommended. A new selenium rectifier, possibly of modern-type silicon diode variety; and a new rubber power cord, of the same style, should be fitted if you intend to use this piece and expect top performance, to the best of its potential. This Model 8 is a testament for what it is. A nice, original American tube amplifier thats highly sought after today. Its for the collector, is the better part of 60 years old and should be looked-at and used as such unless youre full aware of how to care for, tune and restore/enjoy these precision units.
