Mint Condition amazing top-rated amp! 1981 Legend Rock “N” Roll 50 Combo Amplifier. Made in upstate New York from 1975 to 1984. Check out comments below from the Marshall Forum.. This is a very scarce 2×12 combo-amp model. Rola Celestion G12-80 speakers (1777 – lead guitar cones). Solid oak cabinet with cane grill (like early MESA/Boogie amps). Amazing vintage rock sound – Great amp & bulletproof! Tube pre-amp section (triple 12AX7′s) with a solid state power section. There is no hum, buzz or noise of any kind, a totally silent amplifier. Legend RnR 50 was the only guitar amp used in the studio on ZZ Top’s Eliminator album, as verified on the Telecaster Forum by Terry Manning the sound engineer who worked it. We had great fun playing it in our warehouse, but weren’t able to stand the volume past 3… Checked out A+ by Bemis Amps in SD they were brave enough to turn it all the way up! No Issues at very low apartment-use-levels all the way through to extreme high volume. Some say a Marshall / Fender tone. Original foot switch & owners book. Can deliver by car in so. Here are some posts from the Marshall Forum. ” several volume controls – Master & Pre-amp on the front, plus Color Gain and Presence controls, THEN, there are two volume controls on the back “. They went to 2 extra rear-panel volumes. Could get a lot of distortion at low volume (or even more distortion with a loop jumper). Legend’s SS power amp section responds very much like a typical tube power amp. Just another great and unique thing about this wonderful combo amp. The [Legend] amps have a lot of gain and you have to spend a little time to get a tone you like. The Legend is a lot like an early 60′s Hiwatt. The electrolytic caps were Nichicon/Rubicon. At the time, the best caps in the world. The power & standby switches were British — the same ones Marshall used. ” their voicing was more hot-rodded Marshall “. The 212 with its extra volume knobs was better at low volumes but also sounded much better at high volume. From what the founder has said, I gather that the R’n’R had some minor circuit changes during its run, besides the obvious addition of the extra rear panel volume controls. I think that’s why user reviews vary so much — the amps themselves varied. The founder said the power output spec was under-rated and the output section was nowhere near clipping at rated output. A big part of why the Legends had the reputation of being as loud as similarly rated tube amps. It may have been the G12-80. Both how it responded to sub-watt inputs, and because it was so efficient that I could barely crack open the volume knobs at sub-eviction levels. Never had the chance to dime any of them (Legend amps). With all the volume knobs at 7 they kept up with a cranked [Ampeg] SVT. They are great rock and roll amps. If you can find one with the original Celestions and play rock and roll, get one. They are handmade and were very expensive when new. One of the secrets on these is to run a patch cord between the effects loop, which has it’s own attenuator. Love the Legend, killer back-up amp, crazy loud… Great clean or dirty… ” It lites-up the “G” “B” and high “E strings like no other amp has, and even gives me a real good broken up Clean sound. This thing is Flat out hot Classic Rock & Roll. Never had a problem. Well, I had to clean the pots about three times in 27 years… The item “VINTAGE LEGEND AMP ROCK N ROLL 50 COMBO TUBE AMPLIFIER 2×12 CELESTION SPEAKERS” is in sale since Tuesday, October 15, 2019.
