If you are looking at this ad then you are probably well aware of the quality and reputation of the quintessential audio company Michaelson & Austin of the UK brand and their products which was founded in 1982 by. Clarinettist and Hi-Fi enthusiast. Who now owns Musical Fidelity. However, what we have here is a fine example of British audio history with the classic Michaelson & Austin TVP-X Thermionic Valve Pre-Amplifier in polished chrome and black with white lettering. While many of Tims designs are based on the engines and dash boards of classic motor cars, the TVP-X features include: Augmented chassis grille housing 12 ECC81/83 Valves, Stand By/Off, AUX, Tape 1+2, Moving Magnet and Moving coil phono inputs, Stereo/Mono switching, Subsonic Filter On/Off along with separate Main plus Left/Right attenuated volume control poteniometers and separate power supply. There are multiple inputs at the back along with 1/2 RCA outputs. Regarding the history and kudos of this pre-amplifier, this TVP-X has been used as a reference pre-amp and it has been a dream to listen to and operates without major issue. The work that Eddie Fincham meticulously, skillfully and sympathetically did included replacing some dated capacitors and resistors, fixed the power and stand by lights, fitted new gold plated RCA sockets along with adding a shaffner filter recommended to lower the noise floor further. In addition the pre/power supply connection cable was replaced and due to the configuration of the additional power sockets at the back the sockets were changed for safety reasons and to allow the unit to benefit from it’s full power potential. I have taken numerous additional pictures of the pre/PSU internals if anyone want to see more. Serial Numbers have worn over time. With regards to the sound of the Michaelson & Austin TVP-X. Whether listening to Jazz, Classical, Rock or Reggae, the TVP-X produces a full range and detailed vintage analogue sound-stage with excellent wall to wall stereo imagery. The bass is deep yet smooth and sounds neither tiring or bloated. Moreover, when partnered with some decent high end kit the treble and midrange have ample separation, air, detail, depth and clarity where voices, horns, pianos and strings produce a natural instrument sound quality which effortlessly ooze and float from the speakers. As for t he cosmetic condition. However, considering it’s age this Michaelson & Austin TVP-X is in very good condition and good working order with use and age related scuffs, rust and scratches and some paint removal on the power supply chassis top, sides, front and edges although nothing too serious or that detracts from it’s good looks and in my opinion just adds to it’s vintage charm and character. All the original chassis screws have been lost although cosmetically the chrome front is relatively scratch free and as such I’d rate it as 8/10 for cosmetics although 10/10 for sound. Finally, this is truly a museum piece and one of the most collectible and rarest Tim De Paravicini designed valve pre-amplifiers with less than a handful in existence and you will be hard pressed to find another like it in this condition anywhere (Hence the Price). This listing is for a Pair of Vintage McIntosh MC-30 Tube amplifiers Model Type A-116-B. The amplifiers are in good working condition and were serviced about a year ago by a highly qualified technician who changed the can electrolytic capacitor on one of them and changed whatever else either of them need to get them in good working order. Cosmetically they are in very nice condition with the one on the left in a little better condition. The better condition one has very minor chrome blemishes and almost no pitting/rust. The second one has minor pitting and rust. Deatails of the cosmetics can be seen in the pictures. Some of the electronic part/s may continue for another 50 years without need of replacement and some electronic part/s may fail a few days after you start using the item. This is the Vintage Conn Complete Stereo tube amplifier. What you need to do is just Plug & Play then enjoy it! The out put tubes uses 2 x EL84/6BQ5 tubes for stereo. Preamp uses 1 x 12AX7 tube while the rectify is 6X4 tube As you can see, it is very nice tube amplifier. There are 4 knobs for 2 channels. The first pair of 2 knobs are the volume and the tone for (L) channel while the other pair are the volume and the tone adjustments for (R) channel! There is built-in ON/OFF switch inside knob. This is stand-alone stereo tube amplifier. Please note that this tube amp is about 40/50 year old so nothing is guaranteed! It may be changed/modified for recap, resistors, tubes, wires, etc…. Inputs and outputs terminals are added for convenience. One fuse (1 A) was also added for safety. The handle bar(s) were added on both side too. Please see the photos. You see what you get!
