1962 Fender Princeton 6G2 Pre-CBS Brownface Vintage Tube Amp, Collector-Grade

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Princeton in collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. This stunningly well-kept Brown Panel Princeton features the 6G2 circuit and a full complement of vintage tubes. The Princeton has a tone that is very dynamic and warm, with crystalline clean tones giving way to rich, saturated overdrive as you turn up the Volume knob. The circuit is as pure and straightforward as they come, and the single Tone knob has a surprisingly wide range. The bias based tremolo circuit has a strong, dimensional pulse and particularly broad range of speeds too. The circuit retains the original pair of Schumacher transformers with matching date codes from the 13th week of’62, and the preamp is extremely original with all of the original blue molded Ajax caps, which have a particularly sweet, musical tonal character central to Fender’s Pre-CBS amps. The original Stackpole pots are intact, and the larger multi-section can cap and smaller electrolytics in the preamp are modern high quality components to ensure optimal functionality. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The tube complement includes a pair of voltage matched Sylvania 6V6s with a Philco-branded 5Y3 rectifier and vintage preamp tubes as well. The original alnico magnet Oxford 10JB speaker is intact with an extremely clean frame, original speaker harness, and date stamp from the 32nd week of’61. The original tube chart is well preserved inside the cabinet, retaining an “LC” date stamp which translates to March of 1962. Cosmetically, the original rough brown tolex has barely a scuff on it, and the original wheat grillcloth is also extremely clean. The faceplate is nigh flawless, retaining the original brown barrel knobs. Even the original leather handle is intact, as is all of the hardware including handle caps, chassis straps, and sphinx glides (feet). A modern replica one-button footswitch for engaging the Tremolo is included, along with a modern black padded cover. 1960 Fender Concert Pre-CBS Brownface Vintage Tube Amp 5G12 with Jensen P10Q

Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Concert in exceptional, collector-grade condition and in perfect working order. The very first iteration of the Concert offered, this amp has strong ties to the Tweed-era Fender amps which were being phased out concurrently with this example. The feature set includes Triad transformers, a quad of original Jensen P10Q alnico speakers, a 5G12 circuit with five tube preamp, early pinkish brown tolex and oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe, and the unusual factory-plugged “pulse adjust” hole on the back panel for an extra control Fender omitted from the circuit after the panels had already been printed. The combination of the Brownface 5G12 circuit and four matching original P10Q Jensen speakers is truly something to behold. The amp delivers sweet, dynamic clean tones with incredible sparkle and a certain high fidelity clarity noticeable as soon as you strum your first chord. Turn it up past 5 and the amp starts to smoothly overdrive with just the right amount of bite and the complex midrange bark that makes Fender’s Brownface amps the perfect middle ground between the growl and attitude of Fender’s Tweed amps and the glassy shimmer of the Blackface era. The EQ controls have an incredible wide sweep, and this amp is uncommonly warm for any Fender, never feeling too bright or brittle, with a focused bass register and ample headroom. The second channel boasts the Harmonic Vibrato circuit, which was the only Fender “Tremolo” circuit to ever have a true pitch shifting effect, with deep pulsating warbles. The circuit is virtually untouched save for a couple swapped component values to ensure optimal functionality of the vibrato and proper tube bias. The Triad output and power transformers are intact, with a Schumacher-made choke that dates to the 11th week of’60. The amp retains all of original yellow Astron molded tone caps in the preamp, central to the sweet, musical sound of Fender’s Brownface-era circuits, and visible codes on the CTS pots date to the 8th week of’60. The original Astron Minimite filter caps are all still intact and functional too, and the amp retains its original gray two-prong power cable. The Jensen P10Q speakers are the original matched quad, extremely valuable in their own right with particularly clean teal frames, original bell covers, and minty Jensen foil stickers. The dates on the edges of the frames are from the 14th week of’60, and the frames are also stamped with mini “JD” stamps, identical to the date stamp on the tube chart, translating to April of 1960. The original pinkish brown tolex and oxblood with gold stripe grillcloth are intact and in remarkable shape. There is a single minor cigarette burn on top, some staining on the sides from sap, telegraphing the knots in the solid wood enclosure, and some minor wear on the bottom of the enclosure including small caster mounting holes. The original chassis straps, nickel corners, sphinx glides, and flat “Fender” logo are all in great shape and present, and even the original “dogbone” handle is intact (although it does show signs of minor splitting). This is an extremely rare Fender Concert in stunning, original condition, produced very early in its Brownface production run. Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Deluxe tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Manufactured in the brief Brownface Pre-CBS era, this amp has a very original 6G3 circuit, only serviced as needed for optimal performance. Providing a perfect middle ground between the warmth and dynamic range of the Tweed amps that preceded it and the clarity and chime of the Blackface amps that would be introduced a couple years later, this Deluxe offers everything from rich and mellow tonalities to twangy and crystalline bite at the turn of a knob. The bias based tremolo circuit is deep and throbbing, with a very smooth waveform and a tone that has an almost three-dimensional quality. It’s truly one of the best examples of this classic Fender effect. The circuit features the original Schumacher transformers which date to the 36th and 38th weeks of’62, with a closely matched chassis stamp from the 49th week of 1962. The preamp is virtually untouched save for a one new bias capacitor sleeved in their original brown Astron wrapper, and all of the original Stackpole pots are intact too. The preamp features the full compliment of original blue molded Ajax tone caps, essential to the sweet, musical character of Fender’s golden age circuits. The power supply has also been professionally recapped, and the new caps have been neatly sleeved in the original Astron brown wrappers. The tube compliment includes a brand new matched pair of Electro Harmonix 6V6s, an NOS rectifier, and modern valves in the preamp as well from the likes of Groove Tubes and Sovtek. The stock Oxford 12K5 speaker is intact with a minty frame and date code from the 32nd week of 1962, and the speaker has been professionally reconed. Inside the cab, the original tube chart is mostly intact too. Cosmetically, this amp is remarkably clean, with original rough brown tolex, wheat grillcloth, and even the stock leather handle. The original chassis straps, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet) are also intact, and the faceplate is very clean, retaining its full compliment of brown barrel knobs. 1963 Fender Bassman 6G6B Blonde Brownface Vintage Piggyback Tube Amp Oxford 12M6

Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Bassman in excellent condition and in perfect working order, featuring a complete vintage tube set and matched pair of Oxford 12M6 speakers. An early iteration of the “Piggyback” Bassman with rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth, this Brownface-era Fender drives two vintage Tung Sol 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brownface circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge range and after around 5 on the Volume dial the amp cascades into very rich tube overdrive that compresses noticeably and is particularly roaring and thick. It’s the kind of natural tube saturation that only comes from pushing a well-designed Fender circuit to its limit. A Pre-CBS Fender Blonde Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones. It’s hard to beat this particular Bassman circuit for a tone that bridges the gap between the dynamic grit of the Tweed circuits and the shimmery cleans of the Blackface line. The circuit is very original and has been well-maintained and recently serviced with fresh F&T filter caps. A few new smaller electrolytics in the preamp, and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the famed blue molded Ajax capacitors are intact in the preamp, an essential part of the sweet, musical character of Fender’s Brownface circuits. With stock Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and cloth wire. All of the Schumacher-made transformers are intact, with date codes that span late 1962 and early’63. The tube chart is intact inside the head cabinet, with an MC date stamp which translates to March of 1963. The tube compliment includes a pair of vintage Tung So power tubes that have been properly biased, and the preamp tubes are a matched set of vintage RCAs. The cabinet retains a matched pair of Oxford 12M6 speakers, an optimal and original pairing for the 6G6B Bassman circuit, with date stamps on the edges of the frames from the 42nd week of’62. Both speakers also boast professional and recent recones, ensuring a particularly clear sound with refined, tight bass response. Both the head and cabinet retain their original rough blonde tolex, and both have just been freshly regrilled with correct oxblood grillcloth. The tolex exhibits some various marks commensurate with age, with one small patch of replaced tolex on the back panel of the speaker cab. Both flat Fender logos on the head and cab are original, and the clean faceplate retains its full compliment of cream barrel knobs. The hardware includes the original piggyback clip bars, nickel corners, sphinx glides, and tilt-back legs, with a new pair of Fender piggyback thumbscrews. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! 1960 Fender Super Pre-CBS Brownface Vintage Tube Amp 2x10 with Oxford 10K5

Up for sale, a 1960 Fender Super in excellent condition and in perfect working order. One of the very first Brownface-era Fender Supers off the assembly line, this exceedingly rare amp is serial number 00085, with date codes from late 1959-January of 1960. Practically prototypical with its 5G4 circuit, this amp features the centrally located Volume knobs seen on the very first Brownface amps, as well as the factory plugged “Pulse Adjust” hole on the rear panel for a feature Fender intended to include, but opted out of in pre-production after the plates had already been printed. A direct descendant of the Tweed era Super amp, this Brownface example is notable for being one of few Supers to retain the same Triad transformers which were central to Fender’s Tweed amps. An incredibly touch-sensitive and dynamic amplifier with surprising headroom, the Super boasts hi-fi clarity and sparkling, robust clean tones. Turning the amp up past 5 on the volume dial yields thick, chewy overdrive, and the EQ controls have an incredibly wide sweep. Of course this is the most compact Brownface-era amp to feature the “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit as well. A true pitch shifting vibrato (not the tremolo found on most Fender amps), the Harmonic Vibrato sound has a thick, Leslie-esque throb and warble, with a three-dimensional quality and depth that is perfectly suited to the speaker compliment and cabinet size. Whether you want a slow, undulating swampy sound or faster, pulsating vibrato, this Super delivers the goods. The circuit is extremely original, and the amp retains its original Triad power and output transformers, while the choke was made for Fender by Schumacher, dating to the 50th week of 1959. The preamp is virtually untouched save for a few new smaller electrolytics and a fresh bias cap, retaining all of the original yellow Astron capacitors which are central to the sweet, musical tonality of Fenders Tweed and early Brownface amps. All of the original Stackpole pots are intact, with visible date codes from the 40th week of’59. The tubes consist of a matched pair of Tube Amp Doctor 6L6s, along with a JJ GZ34 rectifier and a host of newer preamp tubes. The speakers are a matched pair of era-correct Oxford 10K5s, both recently reconed with long metal bell covers for the alnico magnets. Under the bell covers, the magnets retain their clean date stamps from the 43rd week of’61. The tube chart is fully intact, noting the 5G4 circuit and complete with a “JA” date stamp that translates to January of 1960. The amp has been professionally retolexed by 3 Monkeys Amplifiers with correct rough brown tolex, and the baffle has been regrilled with the correct Oxblood grillcloth with gold stripe, another holdover from the Tweed era. All hardware is stock and accounted for including the rare light brown plastic “dogbone” handle, sphinx glides (feet), and flat “Fender” logo on the amp’s face. This Super is freshly tested and serviced, and ready for stage and studio use. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. 1962 Fender Deluxe Pre-CBS Brownface Vintage Tube Guitar Amp 1x12 with Oxford 12K5

Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Tremolux in excellent condition, complete with the original 2×10 speaker cabinet and a pair of factory spec Oxford 10K5 speakers. This amp boasts the sweetness, tonal range, and harmonic clarity that characterizes the Fender Brownface amps, and is powered by a pair of freshly biased vintage General Electric 6L6 power tubes. The tone is pure, dynamic Fender clean sparkle until around 4 on the Volume dial where the amp begins to get just a touch of overdrive on the notes before cascading into full tube saturation when you dime it out. The bias based tremolo circuit has an incredibly deep pulse and the EQ controls have a positively huge sweep. The circuit is very original and serviced strictly as necessary to ensure optimal performance. The original Schumacher output transformer and choke are intact with’62 date codes, while the power transformer is a modern premium replacement courtesy of Mercury Magnetics. All of the stock blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, along with the full compliment of Stackpole and CTS pots, with visible date codes from the 7th week of’62. The power supply has been professionally recapped with top notch Sprague Atom filter caps, and Sprague bypass caps have been installed in the preamp as well, keeping everything operating within original factory spec. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The tube compliment includes a matched pair of vintage General Electric USA-made 6L6s, along with a Mesa-branded GZ34 rectifier and a combination of new and vintage valves in the preamp. Inside the speaker cabinet, the original tube chart is mostly intact. The cabinet is loaded with a pair of reissue Oxford 10K5 gold frame ceramic magnet speakers which have the correct look and tonal properties, paring very well with the Tremolux circuit and output capability. Both speakers have viable cones and clean frames. While the speaker cabinet retains its original rough blonde tolex and wheat grillcloth, the head cosmetics have been meticulously restored to match, courtesy of Rodgers Amplification. Larry Rodgers used the correct tolex and grillcloth patterns and application techniques, right down to the correct style staples. The new tolex and grillcloth on the head were then carefully aged (in color, not condition) to match the original grill and tolex on the cabinet. The original wheat grill on the cabinet shows light wear and one notable snag near the center, but no other notable wear. The chassis itself is quite clean, and there are two small silver plugs in the back from previously removed mods. The original faceplate is fitted with a compliment of new cream barren knobs, and the hardware includes original nickel corners, sphinx glides, patent pending tilt-back legs, and chassis straps, with a pair of modern brown “dogbone” handles. Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Vibrolux in excellent condition and in good working order. This rare 1×12 “Brownface” version of the Vibrolux is a bridge between the Tweed and Blackface models in both specs and tone, with a glassy, touch sensitive quality, robust cleans, and rich overdrive characteristics when you dime it out. Pushing 35 all tube watts through a vintage Oxford alnico 12L5N speaker, there’s plenty to love about the versatility and tone offered by this Fender. The amp has plenty of clean headroom and the sweet sag of a tube rectifier, and when pushed above 5 on the volume dial, things start to compress slightly and cascade into sweet overdrive with just enough bite. The bias-based tremolo circuit also has a very strong, thumping pulse that’s notably deeper than later Fender circuits, with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is freshly serviced and largely original, retaining the original Schumacher output transformer and choke which both date to early-1962. The power transformer is a properly spec’d replacement for this amp courtesy of Mercury Magnetic’s Tone Clone series. All of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp and an integral part of the sweetness and clarity of the circuit. All of the stock pots are intact as well (dating to late’61) with largely original solder joints and cloth covered wire. The power supply has been recapped with high quality Sprague Atoms, along with new bias and bypass caps in the preamp. The amp has also been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable. The power tubes are a matched pair of Groove Tubes 6L6-GE small bottle valves, with matching Groove Tubes in the preamp and an Amperex “bugle boy” rectifier. The Oxford speaker is original, dating to the 4th week of’62 and sporting a very clean frame and original cone. The stock speaker harness is intact as well, and inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is intact with an LG date stamp, translating to July of 1962. Cosmetically, this amp would look great in a studio, with original rough brown tolex and wheat grillcloth. The leather handle is a modern replacement, and the enclosure shows only some requisite minor marks and scuffs, with light wear through the tolex on the bottom corners of the cabinet. The faceplate retains all of the original brown barrel knobs. This Vibrolux is a rare, thoroughly serviced, and largely original vintage Pre-CBS Fender amp that’s ready for stage and studio use.
