Vintage Tube Amp

This listing includes a beautiful vintage Heathkit AA-121 stereo vacuum tube amplifier in exceptionally clean and electrically restored condition. Some of the work that was done to this amplifier includes: all of the tubes recently tested strong, the EL-34 / 6CA7 output tubes were matched and balanced, bad and out of spec capacitors were replaced, out of spec resistors were replaced, all solder joints have been inspected and any loose connections were re-soldered. As the photos show, the electrical work was done very well. As the photos also show, this vintage amp is very clean, inside and out, with only minor cosmetic wear. The original cage is also in fantastic shape. This amplifier has been well cared for over the years and there is virtually no corrosion anywhere on it. The power cord is in good condition and is not brittle. All of the lettering on the face and chassis is clear and easy to read. The two back feet, on the bottom of this amp, have been replaced with heavy-duty feet to better support the substantial weight of the three transformers. All of the tubes shown are included with this amp. Three of the El-34 tubes were made in Great Britain, and I believe them to be Mullards. I believe the fourth EL-34 tube is a vintage GE tube. Again, all of the tubes have recently tested strong and the output tubes are matched based on recent test results. This is a beautiful example of a vintage Heathkit tube amplifier in good working condition and it comes as shown in the photos. There is a number scratched in the right corner 19637 All point to point wire was replaced with silver wire, Ceramic Tube sockets. All electrolytic caps were replaced about 1 years ago. Vintage Dynaco Mark MK II tube amplifier – tested briefly. AC current draw from the line was about 1A at 90V and rose to 2A at 100V. The input signal played loud and clear without obvious 60Hz hum. The current draw indicates a minor issue that needs to be resolved before using but the important pieces are doing their jobs. The two tubes shown are included but have not been tested. I bought this amp up slowly with my variac when it started playing there was no hum, just great sounding music. I listened for about 10 minutes and shut it down. Before I shut the amp off I use the bias switch to set the bias on the output tubes to the proper line and that adjustment worked great. This amplifier makes it easy to set the perfect bias. The new owner should do this from time to time, or whenever you change tubes. This amplifier is not mint. There are some scratches that show it is 60 years old. Please use the many pictures provided to judge for yourself regarding the condition. They have used tubes and while they do work these used tubes should be replaced with good quality new tubes. Please consider these tubes as a free gift with the amplifier and as such have no value connected with the cost of the amplifier. While this amplifier is working and sounds great I have no idea if it will work for another 60 years or 60 minutes. Vintage electronics like this that have never been serviced can stop working. Before you consider using this amplifier on a regular basis you should have it checked out by a qualified person. All old capacitors, tubes, filters, and resistors should be checked before regular use. The answer is this unit can always be rebuilt, but once rebuilt it can never be all original like this again. Many collectors of vintage audio only want all original units like this, that have never been changed and are just like they left the factory. Some audio guys may want to rebuild this unit themselves using certain parts that they prefer. Many just collect rare audio items like this and never plan to plug them in, and they want only all original electronics. I will leave those choices to the new owner.
