Here we have a very, very rare and wanted Amp. I think this one is an early one maybe 1957? Not totally sure of the year. This 213 Model was made between 57 and 62. Its in very very nice conditon. Tolex is in nice shape with some spots that look like maybe they almost caught the cigarette in time, lol. NO rips in either grill cloth. This amp was just gone through professionally. Replaced three tubes and these items were done Full cap job, Special order rare cap, Undate filters, bias cap, node resistors, plate load resistors. Like I said one hundred percent and ready to go. This amp is sixty years old and a piece of working history. But due to it being vintage, still a final sale. Again working 100 percent, sounds great and I had my professional do EVERYTHING he felt it needed. I would love to keep it. But have to pass it on. This is a working Magnatone 213 Troubador guitar amp. It’s about 60 years old. The internal electronics are all original. Only 3 modifications were made as far as I can tell to this amp. A modern grounded 3-prong power cord has been installed. The tolex has been recovered. The speaker is non-original. Other than that it is stock original. The transformers are all original and the filter capacitor can is original. It seems to function fine so it wasn’t replaced. I uploaded a demo of this exact amp that is for sale onto Youtube, so you can get an idea of the sound. I start off with the amp having the vibrato off and then I turn on the vibrato. I demoed the vibrato with the speed and intensity knobs at 12:00 position. This is a telecaster with Fralin Blues Special pickups. No pedals or other effects are used. It’s just guitar straight into the amp with the volume knob at about 10 o’clock. This amp uses simple to obtain tubes like 6V6, 12AX7 and 12AU7 and a 5Y3 rectifier unlike some Magnatone amps. Up for sale, a 1962 Lyric-branded Magnatone vintage tube amplifier, recently serviced and in perfect working order. Virtually identical to the 260 model, this Estey-era Magnatone was rebranded as the Lyric model 262, likely for one of the many accordion companies who worked closely with Magnatone in their heyday. The amp features a mostly vintage tube set with a matched 6L6 General Electric power tube pair, as well as a 2×12 speaker configuration with original Oxfords and lush pitch shifting vibrato. This Magnatone features two channels with individual Volume and EQ controls as well as two-way Tone toggles for each channel. Driven by the aforementioned GE 6L6 power tube pair, the amp has a rich, lush sound capable of delivering both articulate cleans and overdriven roar. Of course at the heart of any Magnatone is their varistor-based true pitch shifting vibrato circuit, which is thick and watery, with a Leslie-esque swirl and unequalled dimension. As a top of the line Magnatone amplifier, the Lyric 262 has a complex true point-to-point hand-wired circuit which has been recently serviced and fully recapped to sound its best, balancing originality and functionality. The circuit retains all of the original blue Ajax molded caps in the preamp and CTS pots that date to the 21st week of 1962. All of the original Schumacher transformers are intact including a power transformer that dates to the 34th week of 1962 and an output transformer that dates to the 22nd week of 1962. The power tubes are properly biased and have plenty of life left, and a GE rectifier and combination of original GE valves and newer Tung Sols round out the preamp tube compliment. The amp retains its original speakers, which are a pair of Oxford 12K5s that date to the 32nd week of 1962. The original brown bindery cloth covering shows the requisite scuffs and edge wear common with Magnatone amps, and the original grillcloth is intact too with gold sparkle thread and the original Estey badge in the lower right corner of the baffle. The faceplate is quite well kept, with clean silkscreened graphics and all of the original barrel knobs. Here is a very funky new arrival; a rare, vintage, tube amp straight from 1965; an Airline Model 440 Combo 1 X 12 Tube Amplifier manufactured by Magnatone & rebranded under the Airline label for the national US department store retailer Montgomery Ward. Similar to how Danelectro manufactured musical gear for Sears Roebuck & Re branded the merch using the Silvertone label. Good + condition having a very similar Magnatone-style build cosmetically & electronically. Almost a dead ringer compared to Magnatones’ model 440, although w different label, badges & tolex color. This was Magnatone’s answer to the Fender Princeton Reverb blackface combo amp. Inside is a beautiful sounding original 12-inch speaker that packs a punch for the rated 15 watts of 6V6 valve power. This is a two-channel, vintage, 15-watt tube amp. Control panel includes 2 volume control knobs(1 for each channel) and a singular, master tone control; a switch that allows for three distinct settings for Normal, Mellow, and Bright tone options; two inputs per channel (high & low gain); Magnatones’ renowned vibrato (although this model is not stereo as many of Maggies’ amp line had) with intensity and speed controls and a foot switch input; reverberation depth control with foot switch input; 2 amp slo blo fuse, a remote speaker output and an on/off power switch with glowing green jewel cover. 2 GE 6V6 power tubes. 1 Sovtek 12AX7WXT+ pre-amp Tube. 1 Dumont 12AU7A pre-amp tube (original). 1 Electro-Harmonix 12AX7EH pre-amp tube. 1 Sylvania 6EU7 tube. 1 Estey 6DR7 tube (original). 1 RCA 6CA4 tube (maybe original). Cosmetically, there are assorted bumps and bruises associated with the age of this item. The grill-cloth is 100% intact and original. There is one missing rubber foot on the bottom of the chassis, and there is some slight Tolex edge-wear in various places. Please look at our photographs for specific cosmetic cindition. Electronically, new power tubes were installed , assorted capacitor replacements only as needed, and we replaced the mismatched knobs with chicken head knobs. Up for sale, a 1960 Magnatone Custom 280 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The 280 was the top of the line 200 series amplifier developed my Magna Electronics in the “Pre-Estey” days of the company, and this amp is often considered the pinnacle of golden era Magnatone design and tone. Both Buddy Holly and Neil Young are notable users of the Magnatone 280, and the rich overdrive and stereo vibrato are unlike anything you’ve ever heard on another tube amp. Complete with the a matched RCA power tube quad and tube set replete with all vintage USA-made valves, this circuit pushes a pair of stock Oxford 12L5N alnico speakers and a pair of 3 tweeters as well! Featuring two channels, point-to-point circuitry and dual output transformers for true stereo operation, the Magnatone 280 was ahead of its time, and an amp that cost a good 20% more in its day than the most expensive Fenders! The circuit is extremely original, with new filter caps to keep everything operating within original factory spec, and new caps in the crossover as well. The amp retains all of the original Ajax blue molded tone caps that are essential to the tonal sweetness of the amp and also the range of the EQ controls. The original output transformers date to 1957 and 1959 respectively, while power transformer dates to late’59 and the stock CTS pots date to the 44th week of 1959. Of course the hallmark of any Magnatone amp is its true stereo vibrato, and this amp delivers the classic effect with a depth and width that’s hard to believe. The pulse and warble of the vibrato is vibrant and lush, operating either in mono or stereo, bouncing between the two Oxford speakers. The 3 tweeters also do a great deal to accentuate the top end swirl of the vibrato, and these speakers were only available in the very last 280 amps. The Oxford 12L5N-1 speakers both have clean white/silver frames with early 1960 date codes. The small “Magnatone – High Fidelity” stickers are also intact on the horseshoe alnico magnets as well. The faceplate of the amp is surprisingly clean, given how lightly these were originally screen printed, and all of the text and graphics are present. The original white knobs are all present, and there are some small scuffs and hash marks on the faceplate denoting a previous owners favorite settings. Cosmetically, the cab is in great overall condition, especially given the fragile brown leatherette bindery cloth used to cover the cabinets and the squarish shape of the cabinet edges which were more susceptible to nicks and dings. Aside from the expected wear along the lower edges of the cab in particular, the amp is very presentable and complete with the gold Magnatone logo on the face and both’V’ badges.
