Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Deluxe in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Featuring the famed AB763 circuit and Pre-CBS features including the “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate and early no-logo cabinet, this amp has an incredible amount of headroom and power, something that instantly sets it apart from its reverb equipped brother. Since the addition of the reverb effect into the Fender circuit essentially adds another gain stage, the non-reverb Deluxe really stands out as Fender’s premier 1×12 Blackface combo amp, with incredible warmth, EQ balance, and clarity. Perfect as a platform for pedals and an ideal amp for studio use, this Deluxe captures the quintessential Fender clean sound, with smooth tube overdrive and a hint of compression at higher volumes. The tremolo has a strong, even pulse as well, with a wide range of speeds. The circuit is extremely original, and the stock Schumacher-made transformers date to Spring of’65. The filter caps and smaller bypass caps have been replaced with top-tier Sprague components to keep everything operating within original factory specifications, and the circuit is otherwise untouched, with all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps intact in the preamp. These caps are essential to the rich, musical quality of the Blackface-era circuits. The CTS pots are all stock as well and date to the 12th week of’65. The power tubes are a pair of vintage matched gray plate RCA 6V6s which have been biased to perfection and sound particularly good, along with a vintage 5U4 rectifier. The preamp tubes are a combination of newer and vintage valves, all working as intended. The speaker is a vintage Oxford 12L6 with a clean black frame and original blue foil Fender label on the magnet. The original tube chart is intact and particularly clean, with an “OF” date code that translates to June of 1965. The amp also is from only the 2nd production run of the Blackface Deluxe, making it a notably early example. Cosmetically, this is an extremely clean and well cared for amplifier, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. As the photos show, the tolex is extremely tidy and the faceplate is quite clean as well, with a set of minty witch hat knobs. This Deluxe would look great in a studio and is an example that will satisfy players and collectors alike. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Princeton in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Clean, complete, and original, this vintage Blackface Fender was produced very early in 1965, with most components dating to the first weeks of that year, firmly placing this Princeton at the tail end of the “Pre-CBS” era. Unlike its brother the Princeton Reverb, this non-reverb Princeton has much more clean headroom, as the lack of the reverb effect introduces less gain into the circuit, allowing the amp to be clearer and punchier, with a sound that has sparkle and chime indicative of the Blackface line and perfect for recording situations. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the bias based tremolo circuit has a nice even pulse with a wide range of available speeds. The circuit is 100% original, with stock transformers and the famed blue molded Ajax tone caps in the preamp that are instrumental in creating the sweet, musical character of Fender’s Blackface amps. The chassis stamp dates to’65, and the visible date codes on the stock Stackpole pots are from the 2nd week of that year as well. The tubes are all vintage and sound great, with a pair of Peavey branded 6V6 power tubes, an RCA rectifier, and Hungarian 12AX7s in the preamp. The original transformers were manufactured by Schumacher (606 prefix on the date codes), with an output transformer that dates to the 2nd week of 1965, and a power transformer that dates to the 8th week of the same year. The tube chart is mostly intact, with an “OH” date stamp that translates to August of’65. Typically the tube chart date is the latest on any Fender, which is true in this instance as well. The speaker is the original Jensen C10Q with the stock wiring harness with the Fender “F” on the 1/4 plug. The hardware on the amp is completely original and the faceplate is clean, with four stock witch hat knobs. The stock black tolex and silver sparkle grill are present, with moderate aging of the grillcloth and one notable spot of wear on the right top edge. This amp has clearly been well cared for since new, and delivers a sound worthy of the Blackface name! Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely.
