Up for sale here we have a RARE Vintage Pioneer SM-83 Integrated Vacuum Tube Amplifier. It was always kept in a cabinet when not in use. Everything sounded good to us, but we are not experts with tube amps. All tubes lit up and all is working well. We cleaned the exterior although the amp was already pretty clean. The inside looks nice, but could use a little cleaning if desired. Also included is the original manual and a few other papers that you see. This extremely rare vintage tube Pioneer receiver is in PHENOMENAL condition for it’s age. Turns on, light up, tunes into radio stations and SOUNDS GREAT. All tubes are present and work, including the beautiful GREEN EYE tube on the display face. Please note that while this unit was working when I tested it, it is a vintage unit that has not been serviced, and may need some amount of servicing to be at it’s best, as with most vintage tube receivers that are all original. Pioneer SM-83 Tube Amplifier. It is missing one knob. We plugged it in and power light comes on and after about a minute the tubes light up but seem to be faint. No further testing was done. We acquired the estate of a collector of vintage stereo equipment. Although we sell electronics quite frequently, we don’t really come across vintage amplfiiers or preamplifiers very often so we are not well versed enough to test them. We will do our best to describe everything as we see it. Everything we list from this estate was very very well packed in its own individual box in bubble wrap and had been in a bedroom of their house since 2004 when they were put away. Vintage All Tube Audiophile Amplifier w Ceramic and Mag Phono. 115 / 230 Volts. Very Well Cared For. Comes with Original Manual. Tube Compliment: 12AX7 Audio – 7868 Power – 6AN8 Phase inv Driver – 6BA6, 6BE6, DA79, 0A70 Radio Tubes. UPDATE: From what I have read online about this amplifier, it was only offered in Japan and was heavily marketed towards military personal. This would explain its rarity in the United States and the multi-voltage switch on the back for 215 / 230 volts. It seems that only units brought back to the USA by USA military personal make up the current inventory in the States. This is how my friends Father acquired this unit. Up for sale is a piece of Pioneer history, the all vacuum tube SX-2000 receiver / amplifier. Made in Japan and very rare to find in this condition it uses three 12AX7 audio amplifier tubes, four 7868 power amp tubes and two 6AN8 phase inversion driver tubes. The sound is amazing and the the build integrity is impressive. To his knowledge it is 100% original besides a replaced tube many years ago. Can run on 115 and 230 volts. The amplifier powers on and the sound is clear and amazing!! All functions seem to be in excellent working condition. The phono section was tested with a Dual 1219 and it works great. The treble and bass controls work and the filter and loudness functions work. I could not get the FM stereo light to come on so that might need replacing. Normal signs of age for a vintage piece like some wear and scratches but overall in very good condition with no surprises or issues. Although it seems to work well this receiver may need to be gone over by a tech to check and measure the tubes and capacitors, I imagine it would sound even better with a full cap job.
