1965 Vintage Fender Showman Amp Tube Guitar Amplifier Head Guitar Or Bass

This listing is for a Vintage original 1965 Fender Showman (8-ohm version) amplifier. This model of amplifier was used by pretty much everyone back in the 1960s. Represented historically in photographs you can see that The Beatles had them in Abbey Road studios, Jimi Hendrix, Pete Townshend, Jimmy Page, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and many more. The amp was Fenders top-of-the-line and most expensive. Its basically a head version of a Twin Reverb, but without the reverb. It sat upon a large 1×15 cab in which the single JBL 15 speaker was mounted to a baffle that was equipped with a tone ring. Reverb would have been achieved by adding a Fender reverb unit to the mix. The cab in the photos is of the same time period but from a Dual Showman, which is a 4-ohm cab, and although it is also for sale, it does not run with this head. Its just there to show the look of the head on a similar cab. This particular head has had some restoration cosmetically but the electronics look to be mostly original, see photos of the inside. The handle, corners, and knobs seem original but the grill cloth and Tolex covering, face plate and piggyback mounts are new. I dont know the amplifiers personal history so Ill just explain what I can. It does turn on and function. I didnt notice any scratchy control pots, but it does appear that the overall volume is a bit low for an 85-watt, all-tube amp. Ive had other Showmans and Twins and know it should be a lot louder. It sounds nice, just not as loud as one would expect. Im not an amp technician or capable of making a judgement call as to whether it is the tubes, biasing, or whatever more elaborate explanation it may be. The tremolo works if you have a footswitch, but I think the intensity has to be turned up about halfway before it kicks in. Speed dial works fine. Anyway, this is all I know, really. Just a nice-looking, partly-restored vintage Showman that may need a visit to an amp doctor for a tune up, but would probably be well worth the extra attention. All sales are final. Be sure to check out our other listings for more music gear and accessories. 1968 Fender Showman Reverb TFL5005D Vintage Silverface Tube Amp Head

Up for sale, a 1968 Fender Showman Reverb vintage tube amp head in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. A very early transitional example with “drip edge” aluminum trim, this Showman is a variation made only for a few short months that still retains identical circuitry and component values to its Blackface predecessor, including blue Ajax tone caps and cloth covered wire. The amp boasts 85 watts of tube power via a matched quad of Groove Tubes 6L6 power tubes, along with a host of JJ and Groove Tubes valves in the preamp, all performing as intended for optimal reliability and tone. The amp excels at delivering big, bold clean tones and pushes into sweet tube overdrive after around 5 on the volume dial. The reverb is lush and splashy, and the tremolo has a nice strong chop. The circuit is extremely original, with all of the stock Schumacher transformers present and dating to early’68. The preamp is virtually untouched as well, with CTS pots that date to the 9th week of 1968 and chassis stamps from’68 too. The power supply has been recently recapped to ensure that the amp is reliable for stage and studio use with high quality Sprague Atoms. Cosmetically, this head is clean as can be, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with blue thread. The faceplate has plenty of shine with all of the stock witch hat knobs. All original hardware is present (aside from the cabinet attachments) including the raised Fender logo, corners, and handle caps, and the hardware shows sparingly little wear. This Showman is the perfect amp for players seeking a true Blackface tone with the added functionality of Fender’s lush all-tube reverb, and while the Showman Reverb existed as a model for a number of years, this is the earliest and most sought after version from the first months of 1968! 1967 Fender Showman Vintage Blackface Piggyback Tube Amp Tone Ring Cab JBL D140F

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Showman in excellent condition, complete with the matching 1×15 “Tone Ring” piggyback speaker cabinet. The Showman was Fender’s flagship tube amp in’67, and the Blackface circuit delivers incredible clean power and headroom, with a sweet sounding, versatile preamp. This particular Showman boasts a matched quad of Groove Tubes 6L6 power tubes and has just been given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. From full, tight bass to Fender sparkle and chime on the top end, this is an extremely tonally balanced amp, with plenty of mids on tap as well and strong tremolo. One very unique and desirable feature of the Showman is the ported Tone Ring speaker cabinet. This large 1×15 enclosure was designed to deliver the clearest, most pure Fender tone with a stock JBL D140F speaker, and as such utilizes a dual baffle board design in which the speaker floats between the baffles, mounted to a metal tone ring. This elegant design makes the Showman cab work as a closed back, ported enclosure and you’ll notice greater range of your EQ controls, ample bass response and an overall sweeter, balanced tone that you simply can’t get with any other Fender cabinet. Plus it just looks so darn impressive! The speaker cabinet retains all of its original fiberglass sound dampening sheets and the D140F sounds incredible with a professional recone. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced, with new filter caps in the power supply and smaller bypass and bias caps in the preamp. The preamp features new Sprague Orange Drop caps as well, and a three-prong cable has been installed. The original Schumacher output transformer and choke is present and date to 1966, while the power transformer is a genuine vintage Fender replacement that dates to 1972. The tube chart is complete and intact with a clear “QD” date stamp, which translates to April of 1967, while the original CTS pots date back to the 38th week of’66. This amp sports the original smooth black tolex which is in great shape overall, showing only minor scuffs and light wear along the edges of the head enclosure, while the speaker cab is remarkably clean. While the cab retains its original silver sparkle grillcloth, the head has had a vintage piece of genuine Fender grillcloth installed with similar tint to the cloth so that the head and cab are a perfect match. All of the hardware is intact as well including chrome tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars, handles, corners and raised metal Fender logos on both the head and speaker cabinet. This vintage Blackface Fender Showman is clean and complete. A testament to the enduring popularity, great tone and reliability of vintage Fender amps! Delivering 85 clean, all tube Fender watts through a JBL D140F, this amp is ideal for guitar, bass or your favorite Fender Rhodes or combo organ. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. 1963 Fender Showman Brownface Blonde Vintage Tube Amp & Tone Ring Cab JBL D130F

Up for sale, a 1963 Fender Showman Brownface tube amplifier head and 1×15 Tone Ring speaker cab in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Along with the Twin, the Showman was the flagship of the early 1960s Fender tube amp lineup, featuring a whopping 80 watts of power, and boasting Fender’s unique “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit. While the Showman may best be known as Dick Dale’s amp of choice for his classic surf sound, this circuit can offer much more, with incredibly rich low end and EQ controls that have an extremely wide sweep for everything from punchy cleans to raucous overdrive. The perfect middle ground between the dynamic, saturated tones of the earlier Tweed era amps and the clarity and shimmering cleans of the later Blackface line, this Showman has a very warm and nuanced sound, with absolutely giant transformers that keep the low end thick and focused. Perfect for guitar, bass, or keyboards, this is a versatile head that pairs well with just about anything from the era! Restored to original spec, the head features new rough blonde tolex and original oxblood grillcloth, while the speaker cabinet is a brand new solid pine reproduction from Mojotone fitted with a genuine vintage JBL D130F speaker. The circuit has been fully serviced and recapped, with new Sprague Atom bypass capacitors and new filter caps as well, all sleeved in the original Minimite wrappers. The original famed Ajax blue molded tone caps are intact, providing the sweetness, clarity, and balance found with vintage Fender preamps. All of the stock pots and carbon comp resistors are present as well, along with original cloth wiring. The amp boasts a quad of vintage USA-made Tung Sol 5881 (6L6GC) small bottle power tubes as well as a host of vintage valves in the preamp. The original transformers are all intact, with the absolutely massive output transformer often known as the “Dick Dale” transformer, spec’d to be cleaner and more powerful than any Fender transformer that preceded it. The power transformer dates to the first weeks of’63, while the tube chart has an “LG” date code which translates to July of’62. Along with the new rough blonde tolex on the head, all of the hardware is new as well, with modern Fender dogbone handles, chassis straps, and corners. The Showman faceplate is original and fitted with new cream barrel knobs. When Mojotone made the speaker cabinet, they placed the handle in the wrong location, something which has been rectified, and the tolex has been patched to cover the handle mounting holes on the cab for the cleanest possible look. With original transformers, a fully serviced and very stock circuit, a full compliment of vintage valves, and a vintage JBL D130F speaker too, this restored Showman is a Pre-CBS Fender classic. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! For your consideration is a vintage’67 Fender Dual Showman head, the head shows significant signs of use and it is far from perfect. The head sounds great, the controls are nice and quiet when turned but it does have the dreaded tremolo tick. The electrolytics in the pan have been replaced, the pan is a reproduction type but the tone board seems to be original. One of the pictures shows where someone has cut the cab just under the output tubes and the back panel is missing. This would be a great gigging amp since its not in perfect condition but has that wonderful Fender tone, no footswitch is included. 1965 Fender Showman Vintage Blackface Piggyback Tube Amp, Tone Ring Cab JBL D140

Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Showman in excellent condition, complete with the matching 1×15 “Tone Ring” piggyback speaker cabinet! The Showman was Fender’s flagship tube amp in’65, and the Blackface circuit delivers incredible clean power and headroom, with a sweet sounding, versatile preamp. This particular Showman boasts a fresh matched quad of Sovtek 6L6 power tubes and has just been given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. The speaker cabinet retains all of its original fiberglass sound dampening sheets and the D140F sounds incredible with the original cone stamped 29675. The circuit retains all of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps that are a hallmark of the Blackface tone, and the amp is completely stock under the hood with the exception of a recap of the power supply and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the Schumacher transformers have 1965 date codes which match the codes on the chassis stamp, tube chart and CTS pots. The tube chart is complete and intact with a clear “OK” date stamp, which translates to November of 1965. This amp sports the original smooth black tolex which is in remarkable shape, showing only minor scuffs and light wear along a couple of the back edges on the cab. Both the head and cab have new silver sparkle grillcloth that has been lightly aged in-house. All of the hardware is intact as well including chrome pat. Pending tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars, handles, corners and raised metal Fender logos on both the head and speaker cabinet. There are a few tiny screw holes on the righthand side of the cab from where casters were once mounted to orient the cab vertically.
