Vintage 80′s Stock ADA MP-1 Midi Programmable Guitar Tube Rack Pre-amp. Up for sale, a 1979 Music Man. 112 in excellent, original condition and perfect working order. Launched in 1975, Music Man was founded by former Fender Plant Manager Forrest White, former Fender Sales Rep Tom Walker, and Leo Fender himself, with their very first product being an amplifier known as the “Sixty Five”. Being a hybrid affair, this amp matches a solid state preamp to an all tube power section, in this case EL-34s, providing plenty of headroom, with the warmth and fullness of a tube power section that can get as gritty as you want when the tubes are cooking! Making that easier, the amp features a Hi/Lo power switch, which actually works differently than most in that it’s not a 1/2 power switch, but rather a control for how much plate voltage the power tubes see, giving you control over the clean headroom where “Lo” is similar to a typical amp, and “Hi” sends a colder bias to the tubes. Tonally, this amp is very much in Fender territory with bold, sparkley cleans and dynamic grit, and reminds us very much of a Pro Reverb with a brighter reverb and very unique tremolo, both of which are footswitchable. A two channel amp, the Sixty Five offers plenty of options for tone sculpting with both channels including Volume, Treble, Middle and Bass knobs as well as a Deep switch for filtering the low end when needed. The second channel boasts a Reverb knob, and Intensity and Speed knobs for the tremolo, as well as a Master Volume which governs both channels for achieving saturation at an appropriate volume for any given gig or studio situation. This Music Man sports the original Eminence-built, Music Man-branded, ceramic magnet speaker which has a smooth tonal response and chime that’s right at home in a Fender-style amp. The circuit is clean and essentially untouched, with original tone caps in the preamp and Schumacher transformers that date to’79. The original CTS pots date to the 41st week of 1979. The tubes are a pair of properly biased USA-made Sylvania EL-34s that have plenty of life left. Cosmetically, this amp is very clean, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. Naturally, there are a few minor scuffs and light wear on the edges of the enclosure, but overall this is a very well-kept vintage Music Man. Up for sale, a 1966 Ampeg Gemini G-12 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Remarkably clean and original with a complete vintage tube set and stock two-button Reverb/Tremolo footswitch, the Gemini G-12 is a two-channel affair with a warm and detailed range of tones. The cleans are robust, with great headroom and sparkling, snappy sounds that were designed with the Jazz player of the day in mind and tweaked for maximum fidelity. At full volume, the amp does push into smooth tube overdrive with some sizzle and roar, and the onboard effects are particularly noteworthy. As the company that pioneered onboard Reverb in their combo amps, it’s no surprise that this Ampeg’s iteration of this effect is lush and full with plenty of splash and great decay. Not to be outdone, the tremolo has a thick, choppy quality, and both effects are easily accessed via the included original footswitch. The circuit is virtually untouched, with original transformers that date to’66 and CTS pots which also date to the 15th week of the same year. Not a solder joint is out of place and the original green Cornel Dubilier caps are all present in the preamp. The speaker is the original Jensen C12Q with a clean blue frame, original foil label on the magnet bell, and date code from the 15th week of’66. The tube chart is also intact inside the cabinet. In terms of the tube compliment, the amp is outfitted with the original Sylvania-made and Ampeg-branded 6V6s along with ostensibly the entire original preamp tube compliment. Cosmetically, this amp is a real stunner with a faceplace so polished and clean that it made it difficult to capture the details of the original white silkscreened graphics which are completely intact along with the original set of knobs. The blue diamond checker covering is also exceptionally well kept and paired with the original silver sparkle grillcloth. Even the original leather handle is still in one piece!
