Pilot Model PT-1028 1958. Hi, Jimmy O here… Thanks for stopping by to see my latest restoration. Here’s a fabulous and rare 1958 Pilot High Fidelity console! What an amazing player; Pilot spared no expense in the quality and workmanship that went into every detail of this beautiful machine… It was a real pleasure to bring this player back to life, and it now looks, perhaps, even nicer than it did new! This player is just so cool looking, with it’s striking vintage black and white cabinet, silver and black grill cloth, and gold tapered legs. The entire cabinet was recovered with vintage style coverings, the exact same kind used back in the day… See close ups of the wonderful quality and texture of the covering! Pilot has always been well known for their powerful and beautiful sounding tube amplifiers, and this model is equipped with their absolute best. Sporting three 12AX7 tubes, dual EL84 outputs, and a 6CA4 rectifier… All the tubes are original 1950′s Telefunken and Mullard, and all tested super strong!! The amplifier has all new capacitors and resistors, along with a new power cord and added fuse. See photo of the many components that were replaced in this amplifier! The automatic 4 speed Garrard record changer is also fantastic, with it’s awesome 50′s accents, control knobs, and beautiful original beige paint! The record changer, control panel and knobs are in such fine condition, it looks as though this console was hardly ever used! The tonearm has the famous GE VR2 cartridge, one of the best cartridges ever made. I installed a brand new stylus, so you can play both stereo or mono LP’s on this… It’s a dual stylus, so you can flip it over, and play 78 records too! This is an automatic changer, and also a manual changer, so you can stack records, and each one will play in turn, and the changer will shut off after the last record has played, or leave it in manual to control shutting it off yourself. Comes with a convenient Garrard 45 adapter, which allows you to stack and play multiple 45 records automatically! Sorry about the sideways video, I’m trying to figure out how to straighten it! This has a nice large three way speaker system… A 12 woofer, a mid range and a tweeter… I replaced both crossover capacitors with Dayton caps for a tighter response. Want to play records at night? This has a cool pilot light that gives a beautiful warm glow in the record changer area, and doubles as a front pilot light via the small red lens in the speaker grill cloth… A nice bonus feature are the external speaker outputs, and additional inputs you can choose from in the back of the console; Designated for Phono, an additional Tuner, or Tape! You can run a CD player, ipod or smartphone through the tape input, and listen to your music in full glorious High Fidelity! And the 2nd after being removed from cabinet. In the 1st video, it states it comes with original tubes. I HAVE CHANGED OUT THE EL842 AND 12AX7S AND THATBIS THE STATE IT IS IN DURING the 2nd video. Also the 2nd video states I could not locate the original knobs. I DO HAVE THE ORIGINAL KNOBS as shown in the pics I took the next day. One knob is missing the inner sleeve that keeps the knob on snug. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE take a moment and watch the videos… They describe and show the condition best. Should be worth at least that now! Just to clarify: Unit works and comes complete with all tubes but not original tubes. Comes with all original knobs and faceplate and all literature as seen in photos. Pilot 602S A tuner amplifier. This is yet another pilot tube amp that has blown my mind. It has been sitting unused for many years. I cleaned the controls. Balance pot still a little scratchy. Probably needs one more spray. I left the tubes it had with the exception of 2 12au7s. They were very low and I replaced with a matching set of strong GE tubes. All the pilot made in Austria 6bq5 tubes are good. 3 are 78% and above one is 61%. You may want to change in the future. I left 3 of the original siemans 12ax7 branded pilot tubes made in West Germany. The other 2 were Raytheon and Ge gray plates. 12at7 original pilot Siemens. So all in all a great set of expensive tubes. Inputs tested and working. With all this said its a vintage unit. You can listen to it as is or replace the old caps and restore to its former glory. Its sounds amazing now. Old units require service. Especially with beautiful well engineered units like this! As you can see this unit is very clean.
