For sael today is this 1969 Sunn Sceptre guitar amplifier head. For anyone who has head one of these knows its a legendary head. This beauty was rescued for an estate and needs lots of TLC. This head is UNTESTED and likely will require repairs and restoration. WE HAVE NOT PLUGGED THIS IN. Great bones and boy oh boy the prices are going up and they are harder and harder to find. This Sunn and Marshall setup has been fully tested, the Sunn amp has been cleaned and serviced with three tubes replaced with new tubes. All other tubes were tested with a military tube tester and tested to be strong with lots of life left in them. Everything on this amp works 100 percent as it should, is very clean inside and out and has been very well cared for. The speaker cabinets has some pealing and one of them has a hole in the grill but not in the speaker, they also work 100 percent as they should. Please ask all questions and look at all pictures before purchasing. Item must be fully. Up for sale, a 1968 Sunn 2000s vintage tube bass amplifier head paired with a Sunn 2×15 speaker cabinet in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The brainchild of Norm Sundholm, bass player for the Kingsmen, and his brother Conrad, the Sunn company was birthed out of the need for gear that reproduced powerful, rich clean tones that could compete on the world’s largest stages (not the least of which was Woodstock, where Sunn supplied the backline). The Sunn 2000S led that charge in the bass world, and the hi-fi clarity and sweet warmth of this all tube bass head is oft-copied but rarely replicated. With absolutely massive transformers and a dual rectified four 6550 powered circuit, this 2000S head powers a vintage Sunn 2×15 speaker cabinet with a pair of Gauss drivers. These highly efficient and powerful speakers do a great job of amplifying that signature Sunn sound, and the thick, clear low end reproduced by these speakers is a known quantity in the bass world. The list of Sunn bass amp users is prolific and includes Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, John Entwistle, and Noel Redding. This 2000s head has been recently serviced, with a complete and professional recap of the power supply, as well as a modern three-prong power cable. The power tubes are a fresh quad of Tung Sol 6550s which been properly biased for optimal headroom and life. The rest of the tube compliment consists of a pair of NOS 5V4 rectifiers and dual triodes from the likes of Amperex and General Electric. The original CTS pots and pair of chokes have date codes from early 1968, and both transformers are made by Dynaco. While the output transformer is the more conventional Dynaco style seen in Sunn amps, the power transformer is an arguably earlier example that could very well be original as well, although the cosmetic differences between the two transformers are notable. Regardless, the 2000s is designed to be powered by Dynaco iron, and these transformers sound incredible. The speaker cab was produced a few years later than the head, with a slightly different style of original grillcloth, although it pairs very well with the head and features the same rough, dark gray tolex. This is the later iteration of the 200s cab, with the larger side port and front mounted speakers. Both the head and cabinet retain their original hardware including handles, corners, and casters. Cosmetically, both head and cabinet have been thoroughly cleaned, with only light scuffs and nicks on the two enclosures, and moderate aging of the grillcloth. The original metal Sunn logos are both present as well. This stack is massive, classic, and ready to head back out on the road or find a home in the studio!
