Vintage 50s Gibson BR-9 Tube Amp Amplifier With Jensen Speaker Excellent Condit. This an example of a perfect closet classic. This amp is from around 1956 as the Jensen field coil speaker is dated 1956. As the pictures show this amp was probably stashed in a closet for 50 years. It is completely original EXCEPT it has been professionally recapped using sprague and custom built capacitors and a 3 prong power cord has been added for safety. There is zero rust, zero corrosion, the wiring isn’t brittle or cracking and the solder joints are all original except as noted for recapping. There are a few few scuffs and small dings here and there but overall it’s in just amazing shape for a 65 year old amp. I think it’s eligible for medicare this year. This one has 2 6V6 power tubes, tube rectifier and preamp tube and I suspect they are all original also. The amp sounds wonderful to my ears. Clean and clear up to about 3/4 volume and then it starts to break up into a badass crunch. This amp has the serial number stamped into the chassis upside down so I suspect it was probably earmarked for another model like the BR-6. Gibson is famous for mixing and matching parts in the 50′s. This would be a great amp for studio, acoustic gigs or for that collector that seeks minty old gear.
