Vtg c1960s LSI Bogen Challenger CHB 100 Tube Amplifier Amp As Is.

Up for sale is a terrific little tube amplifier from the 1960′s with a 12 speaker by Univox…. This hard to find gem is worth every penny we are asking! It is a full tube amp…. The power tubes are 6BM8′s , which are typically used in hi-fi stereos. And you all know how good those can sound! What I really love about this amp is how it overdrives. It has no gain knob or control, just a master volume. So like many class A, single ended one channel amps, this guy gets dirtier as you turn the master volume up. And of course, like any very good tube amp, your sound cleans up with a twist of your guitar’s volume knob downward! But dime this thing and it comes up with a very smooth and pleasing sounding overdrive, just like a tube amp should! As a matter of fact, this amp sounds great throughout the whole master volume range! I have a modded Epiphone Valve Jr. Head that starts to get loose and lose it’s smoothness and tightness when you turn it up all the way…. The speaker is super old and I’m going to guess original to the amp. It looks like one of those old Utah speakers and/or those vintage Fender alnico speakers. If I was going to replace anything on this amp, that would be the only thing, as it is very old after all. Add to all this that the amp has on-board tremolo! Man, this aspect of the amp sounds so good, it alone is worth the price of admission! It has such a huge and use-able range. You can go from really subtle / barely there when it’s engaged and turned down low. All the way to crazy fast tremolo mayhem when turned up all the way! Just an amazing feature that I love on these older tube amps! This amp has been serviced every year by one of the best, if not THE best amp tech in the Metro Charlotte, NC area. No scratchiness in the pots or wierd-ness in the sound. Tubes are fairly new so the amp is at full power and it sounds like it is! Tremolo has no issues and works perfectly!
