Very cool vintage 1955 Gibson GA-5 Les Paul Junior guitar amp. Amp shows some staining to the tolex, the handle is missing and there is a small rip on the speaker covering. Amp works and sounds great. Very quiet up to 3 o’clock on the knob, it gets a little noisy when dimed but not too bad. It has the early Les Paul Junior script on the plate. There is a very valid reason for people calling these the Champ killer. Amp still has the original 2 prong power cable.

This is a very nice amp that needs restoration , the amp and all the control bottom speaker works but the issue is that once turns on, the speaker sound starts to slowly crackles low then to hight pitch, once left on, the speaker also have two small hole and one knob and the leather handle is missing, there is not a lot of this amp out there so definitely a great restoration project that is already turning on and plays. I plugged a guitar in it and it does plays but it just crackles. Please se detailed photos. VINTAGE GIBSON GA-5 VACUUM TUBE GUITAR AMP REBUILT RECAPPED 10 WATT AMPLIFIER. This is a nice, vacuum tube, Gibson GA-5 Skylark guitar amplifier. It makes about 10 watts of sound. The amp tone controls give it a wide range of tone from ice pick to train. The amp is pedal friendly and makes it a rock machine. This Skylark was probably made around the mid 1960′s so it is approaching 60 years old. That why these amps are refurbished. The new filter capacitors and signal caps bring the tone back to life. Resistors where replaced when more than ten percent out of balance. Taking these steps make these tube amps durable and reliable. The amp sounds new but still looks vintage. The tolex on this amp is tough and lightly cleaned. There are a few worn spots, loose edges and some paint spots but not too bad. The speaker on the amp was replaced with a vintage CTS alnico speaker. The “death cap” was removed. A grounded power cord was added. A new handle that closely resemble the old was added. New feet were added. The back panel is gone. I tried to keep it looking original. This is a Skylark model that uses a solid state rectifier, one 12AU7 preamp tube and a pair of EL84/6BQ5 power tubes. All three tubes are vintage, US-made tubes. I was not able to find a schematic of this Skylark model but was not required for rebuild. 1960s Gibson Skylark GA-5 amp. Serviced and functioning as it should. Sounds smooth through a nice break up at high volumes. Overall this is in good working and physical condition with no notable wear. The third input is not hooked up. Tube set is currently 6×4 EZ90 & 6AQ5A. Please note the following. The single gibson speaker has been replaced by 2 speakers, see stamps in pics. I do not have the original speaker. They are not expensive if you want to replace these. Up for sale, a 1959 Gibson Skylark GA-5 tube combo amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The first GA-5 iteration was introduced in 1954, quickly becoming one Gibsons most popular amp models. In 1957 the Skylark moniker was added to the line, maintaining the blonde tolex and a single volume knob, but transitioning away from the TV-style cabinet of its predecessor to a sharper aesthetic and larger brown grillcloth. This little Class A wonder pumps out a modest five watts of pure tube goodness through a single 8 speaker. From mostly clean, crisp tones low on the volume dial, to sizzling overdrive when you dime it out, this amp is at home in a studio and sounds great with a microphone in front of it. Dynamic and sweet with the original alnico 8 speaker, this Skylark responds well to a variety of pickups. The point-to-point wired circuit is very original, with transformer codes that date to 1959 and a Centralab pot that dates to the 5th week of’59. The preamp features new capacitors as necessary, with top quality Sprague components used throughout. The tubes consist of a vintage General Electric rectifier and Raytheon EL84 power tube, along with a Sovtek 12AX7 in the preamp. The speaker is a vintage alnico replacement with a clean gold frame and original cone that offers a smooth and even response. The cabinet sports its original blonde tolex and brown grillcloth, which retains its original small raised “Gibson” badge. Even the stock leather handle and small rubber feet are intact, and the faceplate retains its singular chicken head knob. Scuffs and light wear can be seen on the exterior of the cabinet, with light wear through the silkscreening on the face of the amp as well, but as the photos show, this is a presentable and fully serviced vintage Skylark.
