Previous Owner’s original notes on this amplifier: ALTEC LANSING QUAD INPUT PREAMP/AMPLIFIER RATED 35WATTS. POWER ON AND WORKING OK, BUT ONE NEEDS NEW CAPS SOMEWHERE, BECAUSE I CAN HEAR A HUM. [INPUTS] HAVE RESISTIVE NETWORKS INSIDE THE CANS, THUS MUST BE ALL HIGH IMPEDANCE INPUTS. Previously used condition with some scuffs, scratches, grime. Green covering on wood cabinet is deteriorating. Wood cabinet is rickety. Powered on – all tubes glow. Unit was tested by the previous owner who states it must need a new capacitor, because there is a hum. Power cord has old replacement plug – we recommend it be inspected and possibly replace with something more permanent. The GE 44 bulb in the power on indicator is burnt out. This is an item from a huge collection of vintage ham radio, test equipment, parts and camera equipment we are currently processing. We have many manuals, Ham Radios, thousands of test equipment and associated parts and pieces. The previous owner was a Ham Radio operator who collected all of these interesting items over the years. He really focused on purchasing equipment from special surplus auctions at the Nevada Test Site, Sandia Labs, Nellis Air Force Base, Kirtland Air force Base, etc. Many of the items we have are from EG&G, Department of Energy, NASA, Air Force, Navy, Marines and Army. The previous owner kept notes on nearly everything as it seemed to be his life-long hobby to collect, test, and document everything he owned. Manufacturing technology was not the same as it is today so imperfections should be expected. Also, these items may have been in storage for 40-80 years and could be dusty, greasy or have surface rust, spider webs, etc.

So Collins made some of the best sounding tube equipment from the late 1940s through the early 60s and this Collins 12Z is evidence of that. The build quality of this surpasses most other American makers of the time and rivals the German equipment made by Telefunken, EAB, and others of the same period. The 12Z is so overbuilt right down to the machined aluminum knobs. It is packed with transformers made by Thordarson, and attenuators by Daven. It is four inputs with a single output and will run on AC or batteries. All the transformers are. Good, it should be looked over by a tech to make sure all the caps are 100% before being used. Up for sale, a 1984 Marshall JCM800 4104 2×12 tube amplifier in exceptional, 100% original condition and in good working order, featuring the original nigh immaculate custom white elephant tolex. This early vertical input JCM800 head shares many similarities to the earlier JMP and can deliver the thick crunch, sizzle, and power for which the 800 series is known. And the inclusion of the Master Volume allows for greater control over the saturation point and overall volume. Biased to perfection with a pair of Sovtek 6550s, this Marshall is ready for stage and studio use. The circuit is all original, with the full compliment of Drake transformers that date to 1984, each with its original paper sticker on the transformer bell. All of the original Wima capacitors are intact in the preamp. The chassis itself is stunningly clean with very little oxidation, and the pristine nature of the amp extends to the back panel and faceplate, which has its full compliment of original knobs. The original Celestion G12M-70 speaker pair is intact, with “LR” date stamps on the frames which translate to November of 1983. The amp retains the original molded plastic feet, corners, and handle caps, as well as the large “Marshall” logo and piping on the black grillcloth. The original white elephant tolex is stunningly well-kept, and as the photos can attest, this amp would present very well in a studio environment.
