Here’s an old Newcomb 4 speed record player that uses a tube amp. As you can see in the video, it’s in “working condition”, but what does THAT, really mean? Let’s take a look! Yes, the turntable turns and it plays music, BUT the variable speed control, again, works but may be a bit slow at max speed. The amp seems to be working “OK”, but there’s a minor hum so you should re cap at least the filters. I have no idea the exact condition of the 2 needles, but that was a 33 1/3 you heard playing, and the flip over 78 RPM needle is also there. I’m SURE there are some other adjustments, etc, that will need to be done on this unit. Cosmetically, it could use some detailing (AKA cleaning) inside and out. The hardware could use a really good wire brushing to get rid of the surface rust. There are probably a few cleaner ones out there that may turn up someday, but plenty more are worse off. At least you know, for starters, anyway, this one wants to work! It may or may not work at all when you get it!

The two front indicator lights don’t light up, so the bulbs would need replaced if desired. This is a used but working tube PA amplifier. All the tubes test at least good on an emissions type of tube tester. One of the 7027A output tubes has a broken keyway. The tube works great but requires care in inserting it into the socket properly. All three inputs work: 2 microphone and 1 phono. Newcomb rated this at 75 Watts using 7027A output tubes in push/pull configuration. It was tested using a CD player into the phono input in the back using an RCA connector. It was tested using an electric guitar into the microphone inputs using the 1/4 microphone jack. I also used a y-connector so that the electric guitar can be plugged into both of the microphone inputs at once. It was plugged into a 4×12 speaker cab. There are screw terminals for 2, 4, 8, and 16 ohm speakers. This amp will overdrive when turned way up and it will move some serious air. It can also be used in 25 and 70 volt installations.
