VINTAGE 1975 FENDER SUPER TWIN GUITAR AMP PROFESSIONALLY REPAIRED. This super twin amp does not have a reverb feature. The super twin has more power than a regular twin. I bought this amp in 1983 and never used it professionally. Does have some tape residue on the back. Comes with original cover that has wear and splits. The speakers are original. On the back it says it has 180 watts at 4 ohms. See pic of invoice. A full set of new capacitors and 3 new tubes were installed. The standby switch was replaced. The polarity switch has been bypassed now. The last pic shows all of the old components that were replaced. The amp now works perfectly. I bought this from a store on South Street in Philadelphia in the 1980′s. The serial number sticker is missing. It was that way when I bought it. It weighs 90 pounds. It must be picked up in person. The face and back panels are clean, no damage and all lettering is intact and legible. I have owned this hand wired Marshall amplifier since at least 1999. It has never left my climate controlled studio in all the years I have owned it. Vintage 1972 Marshall 100 Watt Super Lead. Will last another 53+ years and be worth more after all the modern chinese made junk with their microscopic, flammable, surface mount components, noisy, toneless circuit designs & irreparable flimsy printed circuit boards have burned up, been discarded &/or traded to Guitar Center for MORE modern chinese junk.. !! Why do the manufacturers continue to sell chinese junk? 50% of my repair business involves vintage & modern chinese offerings that burn up, are unreliable, problematic, costly to repair and DECLINE in value.. ! EXPERIENCE TRUE VINTAGE TONE, RELIABILITY & INCREASING VALUE. Original hand wired circuit board. Installed are my high quality, road ready, Ampmedic power supply/filter capacitors. Installed are 4-Russian EL34′s closely matched within 4mA, plate/watt dissipation (bias) set to the industry standard of approx. High quality and reliable Sprague Atom caps have replaced the old board electrolytics. All 4-power tube sockets have been replaced for secure tube mounting. Installed is a 3-prong power cable with earth grounding, so the not needed Polarity switch has been disconnected. Carry strap and hardware are almost new. The case is in remarkably good condition for it’s age, with minor Tolex damage to the corners which have been touched up and almost unnoticeable. Aka Ampmedic Tolex Protector and Enhancer has been applied to the Tolex for a tough as nails, wet look shine that dries hard to the touch. Dirt and hand prints can be easily wiped away with a damp cloth to maintain the like new, long lasting, superior finish. “The Juice” is not the sticky, never dry goop you apply to your tires, etc. The flimsy, defective and often misplaced ohms plug functionality has been removed and replaced with dummy-proof? , hard wired output connections. The chassis, pots, inputs/outputs have been flushed with Ampmedic Dielectric Wash and lubed with NU-TROL Control Cleaner (see pics). I do NOT use Contact cleaner for Control pots. Contact cleaner is designed for momentary contacts and NOT CONTROL POTS. !! I replaced all the polystyrene mustard caps, which, over time, become stressed at the wire connection points to the cap body and separate. Especially prevalent in early HIWATT amps with their especially short leads. Installed now are reliable, high quality and open sounding Sprague Orange Drop Polypropylene caps. Because this early Marshall has the high B+, 490vdc mains trafo, this amp is loud and clean like all early S/L’s should be with air between the notes and more frequencies being revealed with a black background and extremely low noise floor even when increasing the volume. One of the earliest Teisco amps made and only a couple are known to exist. Someone started to restore/refurbish the amp and replaced some capacitors and wire. The work was done well but was never finished. Cool piece of history and would make a great addition to any collection. Outer dimensions are 11″h x 9″w, 5d. Rumor has it that the Motor City Madman himself, Ted Nugent, challenged CBS’s amp designer, Ed Jahns to increase the power of a Twin Reverb using a typical 2 12 inch speaker cabinet. This is at a time when competition from other manufacturers such as Marshall, Hiwatt, and Mesa Boogie were building more and more powerful amps, and Ed wanted to top them all. He also developed the most comprehensive equalizer tone section that’s been in any Fender amp. This amp has power to spare and was so powerful that Ted Nugent only needed six of them (with Dual Showman speaker cabinets for a concert). This amp is serious business because it is so loud and clean at 180 watts. Steel guitar players are very fond of this amp design. The one and only drawback of the. The compact amp in a typical Twin Reverb cabinet, is the ridiculous heavy weight added by it’s speakers with oversized magnet structure. The only thing that makes sense to me now is cutting the cabinet down to a head so you have the flexibility of use with other speaker cabinets and transportation. We had our cabinet builder cut the amp down and we preserved the reverb spring unit, footswitch, and the tube chart. This amp is still complete with out speakers. This amp is now a more reasonable approx. Recently (July 2024) I took it to my current amp tech and he replaced the filter caps, pilot light, powered it for an hour and checked operation. He says it’s now in great shape. The reverb “tray” or “tank” or “spring unit” is located where Fender originally had it installed – on the inside bottom of the cabinet. Our cabinet builder has left enough space for it to fit. The reason why we don’t “install” the reverb tank (screw it down inside the cabinet) is so the user can position it how they want it, to the right side of the cabinet away from the tubes or even outside of the cabinet itself since it has about 18inches of cable connecting to the back of the amp chassis. Only the original cabinet has been shortened in height – speakers have been removed – everything else is located where it’s always been including the foot-switch. By turning these amps to heads, they can now be used for ANY amplification needs! Public address, bass, electric piano, organ, accordion, guitar, harmonica, steel guitar.. This platform makes an excellent bass amp paired with a suitable cabinet (4 ohm or greater)- complete flexibility and much more convenient with its increased portability.
