For sale is a matching vintage Lafayette tube audio pair consisting of an LT-80A FM tuner and LA-55 mono integrated amplifier. Both units have been fully restored, serviced, and tested. They are operating properly and sound excellent. The LT-80A has strong FM sensitivity and receives weaker stations well, even with a very basic antenna. The AFC functions correctly and keeps stations locked in once the tuner has warmed up. As is typical with vintage tube FM equipment, there may be a small amount of warm-up drift with AFC switched off. The LA-55 amplifier plays clearly and strongly with no significant hum or operational issues. Controls, switches, and functions have been checked. Cosmetically, both pieces are in nice overall condition for their age. They present well as a matching set, though they are not museum-perfect and show some normal age-related wear. It was extensively utilized in the audio output stages of 1930s console radios and is highly sought after by modern audiophiles for its exceptionally clean and musical single-ended audio amplification. These were an estate find. According to historical data sheets like the Tung-Sol 45 Manual, the standard operating parameters include. Filament Voltage: 2.5 V (AC or DC). Filament Current: 1.5 A. Maximum Plate Voltage: 275 V. Average Plate Current: 36 mA. Amplification Factor (Gain): 3.5. Maximum Power Output: 1.6 to 2.0 Watts. The base features a standard UX-4 4-pin arrangement. When looking directly at the bottom of the base with the two larger pins pointing toward you. Filament Pins: The two larger/thicker pins (Pins 1 and 4) carry the 2.5V filament supply. Other than the tubes and one of the power cord plugs, these pristine amps appear to be all original. All of the tubes recently tested strong and they are a combination of vintage RCA and vintage Sylvania brand tubes. All of the 5881 output tubes are vintage RCA matched tubes. As the photos show, these amps are extremely clean for their age, including all of the original potted transformers.
