Vintage Heathkit AA-40 vacuum tube stereo amplifier
This Heathkit AA-40 was a local estate sale find and in great condition as found. The fact that the original manual and schematics were with it as well as other Heathkit pieces and manuals, lead me too believe it was the original owners estate. The amp cleaned up nicely and all the original knobs and pot covers are present. One of the little plastic feet was broken and repaired but it is still there. The amp was checked out and the following were replaced: power cord, fuse holder, capacitors, and tubes. Tubes are Russian made electro harmonix 6CA7EHs and nos RCA 6AN8As. Power caps were re-done by maintaining the old cases with the new caps inside. Amp powered up and balanced easily. Original listen was with a dual 1226with an old empire 888 cartridge into a pair of Vintage Altec Santanas. The sound was great. Made me wish Id kept the vinyl. I was going to add more about the specs but if you have read this far you are probably aware that the amp is 40 watts a side, bridgeable to 80 mono. Amp is the same as the Heathkit AA-121.
