I did not plug it in, because I don’t have the proper way to use this. So I will not plug it in and turn it on.

This is a LUX SQ-38D vacuum tube amplifier. Being a very old used item, it has scratches from use, please check the photos for the condition. The amplifier was previously used by a family member as a hobby, but has been stored in a warehouse for about 20 years. When connecting a PC to AUX-1 and connecting speakers to SPEAKERS L R’s 0 and 8? , sound was confirmed on R, but no sound was produced on L. When connecting a PC to AUX-2 and connecting speakers to SPEAKERS L R’s 0 and 8? , sound was produced on both L and R. When connecting a PC to TAPE and connecting speakers to SPEAKERS L R’s 0 and 8? , sound was produced from both L and R, but the sound was muffled and quite poor. Operation of PHONO 1 and 2 has not been confirmed. The MODE was tested in stereo only; other modes were not checked. The BALANCE was responsive.

I tested the unit the inputs work I cannot get the radio to work. I’m not sure if I need an antenna or what.

Was ready to recap and rework as necessary and come up with nothing, plays great nothing gets hot no hum, all good. This piece is gorgeous. This one has Sylvania 6BQ5s.

Both tubes appear to have the same date code of SJ (although faint on one) which should put them as being from 1975. The print on these tubes is fragile and will easily rub off, much of the white print has already rubbed off, but the etched identifying number is still clearly visible. Although used, these tubes should still have some decent life left in them and are priced accordingly. The tubes’ test results are displayed in the photos (New 6550 Spec 100% =11,000 Gm).
