1965 Fender Bassman Black Panel Vintage Tube Amp Head AB165, Serviced
Friday, November 14th, 2025

Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head, freshly serviced and in excellent condition. Featuring the AB165 circuit, this amp delivers the rich and powerful tones associated with the Black Panel sound, and the cleans are robust and detailed. Pushing the amp past around 5 on the Volume dial of either channel coaxes shades of overdrive out of the circuit, with moderate compression and plenty of crunch and bite when diming the amp out. Perfect for guitar or bass, this amp is also an excellent pedal platform. The circuit is very original with stock Schumacher transformers (Fender’s primary transformer supplier in the Black Panel years) dating between 1964 and’65. The power amp has been professionally recapped, and the preamp has new electrolytic caps as well, ensuring reliable performance. The preamp retains a number of the original blue molded Ajax tone caps that are an essential part of the Black Panel era’s sweet, musical character, and a few Sprague Orange Drops have also been installed. The CTS and Stackpole pots have visible date codes that span late 1964 and early’65. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong variety. The tube complement includes a pair of matched Ruby 6L6s, with a Mojotone-branded phase inverter and three original RCA-branded preamp tubes. Present inside the head cab, the stock tube chart is present, with a “OH” date stamp which translates to August of 1965. While the tube chart touts the “AA” version of the Bassman circuit, the amp is wired for the “AB” configuration, which is extremely common in 1965-66, as the AA circuit was short lived and Fender used up all their remaining tube chart stock. Cosmetically, this amp is very clean, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present including the chrome piggyback clip bars, chassis straps, nickel-plated corners, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet), and the hardware shows only light surface patina. The faceplate is in great shape, and all of the original witch hat knobs are intact.

1971 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Silverface Vintage Tube Amp 2×10 with Oxford 10L5
Thursday, November 13th, 2025

Up for sale, a 1971 Fender Vibrolux Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with a vintage tube set and two-button footswitch. Clean, original and freshly serviced, this Vibrolux is stage and studio ready, loaded with a bevy of vintage tubes including a pair of Phillips-branded 6L6 power tubes. With good reason, the Vibrolux is one of the most desirable Fender models for its ideal size and power, well-suited to both stage and studio applications. The amp delivers sparkling cut and muscle, and a surprising amount of headroom, cascading into lightly compressed tube overdrive when pushing towards 10 on the Volume dial. Offering 35 tube watts through the original Oxford 10L5 ceramic magnet 10 speaker pair, the Vibrolux is the perfect platform for getting the most out of a variety of guitars and stompboxes. Clean and sweet up til about 5 on the volume knob (with a perceived volume that’s loud enough to keep up with an aggressive drummer), the Vibrolux has clear note attack and sweet tube rectifier sag, not to mention lush tube-driven Reverb and percussive Tremolo. All of the transformers are manufactured by Fender’s primary transformer supplier in this era, Schumacher, with source date codes from 1971. The preamp is 100% original save for two capacitors in the bias section, all of the original CTS pots are intact, and the chassis stamp reads Sept 16th, 1971. The power supply has also been professionally recapped with high quality F&Ts, and a three-prong power cable has been installed. Given a full checkup by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, all pots, switches, jacks and tube sockets have been thoroughly cleaned. The tube complement includes a pair of Phillips-branded 6L6 power tubes, an RCA 5U4 rectifier, and nearly all of the original Phillips-branded tubes in the preamp. The Oxford 10L5 ceramic magnet 10 speakers are the original matched pair with black frames and blue Fender foil stickers on the ceramic magnets. The stickers on the edges of the frames are dated to the 21st week of’71. The tube chart is intact inside the cabinet as well. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with turquoise stripe are intact, with only very light wear on the enclosure edges. Original hardware includes the handle caps, chassis straps, corners, sphinx glides (feet) and raised logo. The faceplate is particularly well-kept with a full complement of witch hat knobs. The original two-button footswitch is included.
Vintage General Radio Co. Model 814-A Battery Powered Tube Lab Audio Amplifier
Wednesday, November 12th, 2025

For sale is a vintage General Radio Co. Model 814-A serial no. This vintage piece of test equipment was produced around 1937 for lab use. It has three mixed brand type 34 vacuum tubes. This piece is in decent condition for its age with many signs of wear and age. The gain knob had a piece about 1-1/4 wide broken out of the base when I acquired it. Luckily, the missing piece was inside, and I was able to glue it back together. The cracks are just faintly visible on the front (see photos). There are a couple small holes in the front right above model/serial numbers. I’m not sure if there is a badge missing or these holes were for. Otherwise, this piece appears to be complete. Nothing is obviously missing or altered. The cabinet is intact but most of the original finish has worn off. The underside of the top appears to have some staining from moisture. This staining from moisture damage covers about half of the paper schematic/instructions. The cabinet is just slightly loose at the bottom left corner joint (see last photo). Electronically, this piece appears to be pretty clean and in good condition. This piece originally operated on batteries. Please see all photos for condition and completeness of the item. I can provide additional photos upon request. Cabinet dimensions are 12-1/4″ wide (excluding handles) x 12″ deep x 8 tall.
