Vintage 1971 Selmer Chieftain 200 Watt Amplifier All Orig. All Tube Major
BEHOLD THE VINTAGE 1971 SELMER’CHIEFTAIN” 200 WATT ALL TUBE “WRECKING BALL IN EXCELLENT, ALL ORIGINAL CONDITION, MADE IN ENGLAND. THIS IS THE MOST POWERFUL, LOUDEST AND HEAVIEST AMPLIFIER I HAVE EVER COME ACROSS IN MY ENTIRE LIFE. IT ALSO HAS THE LARGEST TRANSFORMERS IVE EVER SEEN AS WELL. IN ADDITION, IT’S A RARITY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANOTHER ONE. THIS ALL TUBE VINTAGE BEAST RUNS ON EIGHT EL34 OUTPUT TUBES (PLEASE SEE THE PHOTOS) AND PUTS OUT WAY OVER 200 WATTS BY WAY OF ITS ENORMOUS AND ORIGINAL TRANSFORMERS. I BELIEVE THERE ARE ACTUALLY 2 SEPARATE OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS WORKING SIMULTANEOUSLY! THE UNIQUE FACTOR IN MY VIEW TO THIS AMP IS HOW MUCH POWER IS THERE AND HOW THE AMP PROVIDES AMAZING SUSTAIN ON ITS CLEAN TONES BEFORE IT GETS PUSHED INTO OUTPUT DISTORTION WHICH IS ALSO BRILLIANT AND SIGNATURE SOUNDING. AT ITS CORE ITS A CLASSIC VINTAGE SELMER SOUNDING TONE CIRCUIT. IF YOU’VE EVER PLAYED THRU OR HEARD A SELMER TREBLE AND BASS 50 OR 100 WATT CIRCUIT FROM THE LATE 60′S EARLY 70′S, IT’S TRUE TO THAT CHARACTER BUT THE POWER BEHIND THESE 200 WATTS IS WHAT SETS IT APART. THIS IS A 4 CHANNEL AMP WITH 2 CHANNELS CONTROLLED BY VOLUME, BASS AND TREBLE CONTROLS AND 2 “SELECTOR TONE” CHANNELS WITH NOTCHED EQ PRESETS THAT ALSO OFFER VOLUME, BASS AND TREBLE CONTROLS. THE SELECTOR TONE CHANNELS ARE LIKE HAVING A VAIRITONE CONTROL AS FOUND ON A ES 345 GUITAR BUT ON YOUR AMP INSTEAD. ALL “SELECTOR TONE” PRESETS PRODUCE HIGH PEDIGREE RECORDING QUALITY TONES. ALL THE AMPS TONES ARE GREAT AND VERY USEFUL. CONDITION WISE, I DON’T THINK THIS AMP EVER LEFT IT’S HOME OR THE RECORDING STUDIO. I DOUBT ITS EVER TRAVELED ON TOUR. ITS IN EXCELLENT MECHANICAL AND COSMETIC CONDITION. I JUST INSTALLED 8 BRAND NEW JJ EL34′S POWER TUBES, I BELIEVE THE CIRCUIT IS 100% ORIGINAL. YOU REALLY NEED TO RUN THE AMP WITH 2 CABS OR YOU ARE LIKELY TO BLOW A SINGLE 4X12 AND POSSIBLY ONE OF THE OUTPUT TRANSFORMERS. THE AMP WAS BUILT TO RUN ON 2 CABS. IT WAS ADVERTISED AS AN ALL PURPOSE AMP BUT ITS FRONT PANEL LAYOUT IS VERY REMINISCENT TO A EARLY 70′S SELMER TREBLE AND BASS 50 OR 100 WATT.
