1969 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Drip Edge Vintage Tube Amp Blackface AA864 Circuit
Up for sale, an early 1969 Fender “drip edge” Vibrolux Reverb with the coveted Blackface AA864 circuit. Tonally, the amp does everything you’d expect of your favorite Vibrolux Reverb, with a balanced, sparkly clean tone and just the right amount of headroom before giving in to smooth tube saturation and overdrive. There’s a reason why the Vibrolux is currently one of the most collectable and sought after vintage Fender amps, as it’s ideal for recording and also the perfect size for club gigs without overwhelming your bandmates. The balanced tone of the two 10 ceramic speakers, matched with a tube rectified 6L6 based circuit simply can’t be beat! Add Fender’s famed tube driven reverb and tremolo on top and you have one of the best tube amp designs ever conceived. The speakers are a pair of era correct Oxford 10L6 10 ceramic speakers, that feature clean black frames, stock Fender blue labels and original speaker cones. These speakers have 1976 date codes, and are the correct stock factory 10s found in most Vibrolux’s of the era. The tube chart is clean and intact with crisp edges. The output transformer dates to early 1969, while the power transformer and choke date back to’68. The CTS pots date to late 1968 as well. The circuit is clean and well maintained, having been professionally recapped, with new bypass caps in the preamp as well. The brown molded tone caps are intact in the preamp, while the majority of the resistors have been swapped in favor of high quality one watt metal film resistors for the cleanest signal and lowest possible noise floor. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong cable. The power tubes are a pair of matched Mesa Boogie-branded USA made 6L6GC valves which have been properly biased, while the preamp tubes are an assortment of largely vintage valves from the likes of RCA and Telefunken. Cosmetically, the amp is very well kept with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with aluminum trim. The black tolex shows sparingly little wear, and all of the stock hardware is intact, including the chassis straps, corners, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet). The faceplate is quite minty too and the original Fender metal logo (with tail) is intact on the face of the amp. There is modest aging of the original grillcloth, but no other wear of note. As the photos show this is a clean, original, and well maintained vintage Fender! A modern Fender two-button footswitch is included.
