1964 Fender Bassman Black Panel Piggyback Vintage Tube Amp Pre-CBS AA864 Circuit

Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 speaker cab, recently serviced and very original. This vintage Pre-CBS “Black Panel” Fender amp features the AA864 circuit, the earliest and most coveted circuit used throughout this era of production. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effects pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. It’s worth noting that with Black Panel Bassmans, three distinct circuits were used, and more often than not the circuit noted on the tube chart isn’t the same as what’s “under the hood, ” yet with this particular Bassman it does indeed come as advertised and is a true AA864 model. All of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors in the preamp are intact, and these caps are an essential part of the sweet and musical sound of the Black Panel amps. Both the main filter caps and smaller bypass caps have been replaced with high quality Spragues to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The stock CTS pots date to between late 1963 and early’64, and the stock Schumacher transformers at the heart of the amp also date to 1964. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present. The tubes consist of a pair of properly biased Sovtek 5881 (6L6) power tubes, along with a host of modern preamp tubes from Electro Harmonix. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of era-correct ceramic magnet Oxford 12T6 12 drivers, and these speakers have both recently been professionally reconed and feature bronze frames. Oxfords provide a very balanced and warm tone for Black Panel Fenders, and this pair keeps the bass response rich and dynamic, offering a sound both tight and warm with sparkling trebles. Cosmetically, this Bassman retains the original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth on both the head and speaker cabinet. The grillcloth has darkened significantly on the head and cab, and all of the original hardware is present including Pat. Pending tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and the stock pair of raised Fender logos. The faceplate is complete with original witch hat knobs and retains the Fender Electric Instrument Co. Text indicative of a Pre-CBS Fender amp. This Bassman is complete, recently retubed, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Vibrolux Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order. With good reason, the Vibrolux is one of the most desirable Fender Blackface models for its ideal size and power, performing well both on stage and in the studio with shimmering Fender cleans and smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive when you push the amp towards 10 on the volume dial. Clean and sweet up til about 5 on the volume knob (with a perceived volume that’s loud enough to keep up with an aggressive drummer), the Vibrolux has smooth attack and tube rectifier sag, not to mention lush tube Reverb and punchy Tremolo. The preamp is 100% original, save for a new bias cap to regulate the power tubes, retaining a full compliment of original blue molded Ajax caps, a key ingredient in the sweet, musical character of Fender’s Blackface circuits. All of the original transformers are intact, manufactured by Schumacher (Fender’s primary transformer supplier in the’60s) and dating to 1965. All of the original CTS pots are intact too, with visible date codes from’65, matching the chassis stamp. The power supply has been professionally recapped with Sprague Atoms. The Jensen 10 speakers are a matched pair of vintage drivers with clean black frames and foil stickers on the ceramic magnets, factory spec for this model yet dating to’66. These speakers are the perfect pairing for the Vibrolux circuit, offering Jense’s hi-fi clarity and articulation. The tube chart is intact, with a faded “OE” date stamp which translates to May of 1966. The pair of brand new Tung Sol 5881 (6L6) power tubes are optimally biased, with a vintage RCA 5AR4 rectifier and an array of modern and vintage preamp tubes from the likes of Amperex and General Electric. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are intact, with sparingly little tolex wear and uniform aging of the grillcloth. The hardware includes the full compliment of witch hat knobs (with a couple vintage substitutes), raised Fender logo, handle caps, chassis straps, corners, and sphinx glides (feet). 1969 Fender Vibrolux Reverb Drip Edge Vintage Tube Amp Blackface AA864 Circuit

Up for sale, an early 1969 Fender “drip edge” Vibrolux Reverb with the coveted Blackface AA864 circuit. Tonally, the amp does everything you’d expect of your favorite Vibrolux Reverb, with a balanced, sparkly clean tone and just the right amount of headroom before giving in to smooth tube saturation and overdrive. There’s a reason why the Vibrolux is currently one of the most collectable and sought after vintage Fender amps, as it’s ideal for recording and also the perfect size for club gigs without overwhelming your bandmates. The balanced tone of the two 10 ceramic speakers, matched with a tube rectified 6L6 based circuit simply can’t be beat! Add Fender’s famed tube driven reverb and tremolo on top and you have one of the best tube amp designs ever conceived. The speakers are a pair of era correct Oxford 10L6 10 ceramic speakers, that feature clean black frames, stock Fender blue labels and original speaker cones. These speakers have 1976 date codes, and are the correct stock factory 10s found in most Vibrolux’s of the era. The tube chart is clean and intact with crisp edges. The output transformer dates to early 1969, while the power transformer and choke date back to’68. The CTS pots date to late 1968 as well. The circuit is clean and well maintained, having been professionally recapped, with new bypass caps in the preamp as well. The brown molded tone caps are intact in the preamp, while the majority of the resistors have been swapped in favor of high quality one watt metal film resistors for the cleanest signal and lowest possible noise floor. The power cable has been upgraded to a modern three-prong cable. The power tubes are a pair of matched Mesa Boogie-branded USA made 6L6GC valves which have been properly biased, while the preamp tubes are an assortment of largely vintage valves from the likes of RCA and Telefunken. Cosmetically, the amp is very well kept with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth with aluminum trim. The black tolex shows sparingly little wear, and all of the stock hardware is intact, including the chassis straps, corners, handle caps, and sphinx glides (feet). The faceplate is quite minty too and the original Fender metal logo (with tail) is intact on the face of the amp. There is modest aging of the original grillcloth, but no other wear of note. As the photos show this is a clean, original, and well maintained vintage Fender! A modern Fender two-button footswitch is included.
