Up for sale, a 1962 Ampeg B-12-X in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. An early, collector-grade example, this rare Ampeg features the Navy Random Flair tolex which preceded the blue diamond covering Ampeg used extensively in later years, complete with the original satellite speaker for the Reverb effect, as well as the original matching trolley and two-button footswitch. One of the physically larger and more complex designs in the Portaflex series, the B-12-X features both vibrato and reverb through a ported cabinet outfitted with the original Jensen 12 ceramic driver. Stocked with a host of vintage preamp tubes as well as a fresh, properly biased pair of Tung Sol small bottle 6L6 power tubes, the B-12-X delivers a tone that has warmth, clarity and the rich overdrive characteristics commonly associated with Ampeg’s best designs. The physical size of the cabinet and ported design adds extra low end fullness too, and the EQ controls have a wide, useful sweep. The vibrato (not tremolo like most amps), has a deep, warbling pulse with a swirling, Leslie-like effect that is extremely lush. The reverb utilizes the original Accutronics two-spring tank, and curiously enough, is designed to only operate via the satellite cabinet, which is included and boasts its own original oval alnico speaker. The circuit is clean and stock, with only a few minor component substitutions to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The turret board design is true to how the amp left the factory, with original transformers and CTS pots that date to late 1961. The chassis has incredible shine with bright chrome plating and pristine white silkscreen lettering. Central to the face of the amp, a lucite, light-up “Ampeg” logo is present, secured with two new tiny screws. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is fully intact, dating to 1962, and the original Jensen 12 speaker offers a very smooth and pleasing voice that compliments the circuit design. Cosmetically, the original Navy Random Flair covering and silver grillcloth are intact and stunningly clean. A blue textured covering with dense silver sparkles, Navy Random Flair has a subtle distinction all its own. The original chrome side handles are present, and the stock blue leather handle central to the mounting tray of the head shows wear, but still works. The original multi-pin head to cabinet cable is intact, and the six shockmounts that suspend the head above the mounting tray are all brand new components from Fliptops, ensuring no rotted out rubber and a secure connection between the head and mounting tray when transporting the amp. The matching trolley is included, and the satellite Reverb cabinet and two-button footswitch both have their own dedicated spots to secure inside the cabinet. Up for sale, a 1964 Ampeg B-15N “Flip-Top” Portaflex tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order, freshly serviced and ready for studio use. This clean B-15N is an early example with gleaming chrome, blue diamond tolex, a full set of vintage USA-made tubes, and stock CTS 15 speaker. As the amp that defined the Motown bass sound and a must-have for studios worldwide, the B-15N is the undisputed king of vintage bass tone, with a thick, thumpy sound that is round, detailed, and versatile, bringing out the best in your instrument’s natural tonal characteristics. The two channels each have a unique voice, with Channel One being a bit more mellow and smooth, while Channel Two has a touch more grit and bite, also making it an excellent choice for guitar (diming this channel out delivers a particularly nice overdriven roar with a humbucker or P-90 equipped instrument). Just given a checkup by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, this B-15N is ready for stage and studio use. The circuit features all of the original capacitors and CTS pots which date to the 21st week of 1964. The stock output transformer is intact, with a genuine vintage power transformer furnished by Fliptops. Fitted between the transformers, a new plexiglass Ampeg badge has been installed, illuminating as it should when the amp powers on. A new multi-pin connection between the head and cab has been installed, and the amp retains the original two-prong power cable. The speaker is the original CTS 15 driver with a clean black frame. This ceramic driver sound clear and powerful, keeping low frequencies rich and focused. The original tube chart is intact inside the cab, with the stamped serial number dating to August of 1964. Cosmetically, this amp is a particularly nice early B-15N, with clean white silkscreen text on the chrome-plated chassis and a full compliment of original knobs. The stock latches are still mounted to the original tray, and the shockmounts which secure the head to the tray are viable. The enclosure shows modest edge wear, particularly on the tray, yet as the photos show, this B-15N would look great in a studio. A new leather handle of the correct style has also been installed. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. Up for sale, a 1970 Ampeg B-15N Portaflex tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original trolley and cover. The B-15N is one of the most recorded and highly regarded tube bass amp circuits of all time, and this classic four-input vintage model delivers the goods through the original 15 Eminence ceramic magnet speaker. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg at their Linden, NJ factory and just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, the amp is powered by a matched pair of properly biased Tung Sol 6L6GC power tubes. Notable for the addition of Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo rocker switches for each channel not found on earlier iterations, this B-15N has surprising output given its modest power and excels at a dynamic and detailed tone that can be extremely warm, or distinct and bright. Paired with a Precision Bass, it’s the perfect recipe for Motown thump. The original transformers are both present, and the preamp is virtually untouched, with original CTS pots and visible date codes from the 21st week of 1970. Along with the Tung Sol 6L6 power tubs, the amp features a combination of modern and vintage octal preamp tubes as well as a vintage Mullard GZ34 rectifier. The stock Eminence speaker has a clean frame and date code from the 13th week of 1970. The cabinet retains the original smooth black tolex, silver sparkle grillcloth, and Ampeg badge. The faceplate retains virtually all of the original blue pinstriping, along with a full compliment of original knobs. Wear on the cabinet is limited to minor scuffs and light edge wear, and all original hardware is included and viable including the shockmounts for the head and original latches. As the photos show, this B-15N would look great in a studio. The original screw-on trolley is included, along with the original cover (not pictured). This exceedingly clean B-15N is a very early example with gleaming chrome, blue diamond tolex, the original full set of matched Ampeg-branded tubes, original Jensen EM1501 speaker, rare tilt-back rod, and original trolley. As the amp that defined the Motown bass sound and a must-have for studios worldwide, the B-15N is the undisputed king of vintage bass tone, with a thick, thumpy sound that is round, detailed, and versatile, bringing out the best in your instrument’s natural tonal characteristics. The stock transformers are present, and the serial number sticker inside the cabinet dates to February of 1963. The original multi-pin connection between the head and cab is intact, as is the original two-prong power cable. This ceramic driver sound clear and powerful, keeping low frequencies rich and focused. The original tit-back rod is secured inside the cabinet, a feature only seen on the B-15N until 1964. Cosmetically, this amp is the nicest early B-15N we’ve ever had in the shop, with flawless silkscreen text on a near mint chrome-plated chassis. The stock latches are still mounted to the original tray, and the head features four new shockmounts between the head and tray. All of the original hardware is present including the light up lucite “Ampeg” logo (with a custom Ampeg-factory inscription ostensibly for the original owner) and all of the original knobs. The trolley is original as well. The blue diamond tolex is original and exceedingly clean with some wear on the trolley tolex but only a few minor scuffs on the speaker enclosure edges. Up for sale, a 1975 Ampeg B-15N Portaflex tube amp in good working order with fresh power tubes. The B-15N is one of the most recorded and highly regarded tube bass amp circuits of all time, and this classic four-input vintage model delivers the goods through the original heavy duty CTS 15 speaker. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg and recently serviced, the amp is powered by a pair of new and properly biased JJ 6L6 power tubes for a robust 30 watts of output. Surprisingly powerful given its modest power, the B-15N excels at a dynamic and detailed tone that can be extremely warm, or distinct and bright. Paired with a Precision Bass, it’s the perfect recipe for Motown thump. A rare version produced for only a few short years with white rocker switches, this Ampeg has a sleek visual appeal. This head has a couple new caps in the power supply and the circuit is otherwise 100% stock. The stock transformers are both present, and the circuit retains the original CTS pots which date to 1975. The faceplate is notably clean, with all of the original black silkscreened graphics intact on the polished aluminum, and all of the original knobs are intact too. Aside from the new pair of power tubes and rectifier, the rest of the tubes are all vintage valves which work as intended and sound great. The fliptop head secures to the cab with stock latches, and the shockmounts the hold the head to the mounting tray are viable as well. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth is intact, and the original screw-in trolley is also present. There is some staining on the grillcloth, and wear on the cabinet around the edges, but overall, this is a fine example and a gig-worthy amp, freshly retubed and ready to go with an extremely original circuit and stock speaker. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. Up for sale, a 1964 Ampeg B-12-XY recently serviced and in perfect working order. One of the physically larger and complex designs in the Portaflex series, the B-12-XY features both vibrato and reverb through a ported cabinet outfitted with a Celestion Vintage 30 speaker. Stocked with a combination of original preamp valves and newer JJ power and rectifier tubes, the B-12-XY delivers a tone that has warmth, clarity and the rich overdrive characteristics commonly associated with Ampeg’s best designs. The physical size of the cabinet and ported design adds extra low end fullness, and the stock horn has been disconnected to provide a more conventional and smooth EQ curve. The vibrato (not tremolo like most amps), has a deep, warbling pulse with a swirling, leslie-like effect that is extremely lush. The reverb utilizes the original Accutronics two-spring tank, and curiously enough, is designed to only operate via a satellite cabinet, although the effect has been tested and sounds great. The circuit is clean and stock, with only a few minor component substitutions to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The turret board design is clean and true to how the amp left the factory, with original transformers and CTS pots that date to late 1963. The chassis has plenty of shine with clean chrome plating that still retains the majority of the original white silkscreen lettering. Central to the face of the amp, the lucite, light-up “Ampeg” logo is present. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is mostly intact, and the modern Celestion Vintage 30 speaker offers a very smooth and pleasing voice that compliments the circuit design. Cosmetically, the original blue checkered covering and silver grillcloth are intact, showing scuffs and modest wear on the corners of the cab from the past 55 years. The original chrome side handles are present and clean, and the stock blue leather handle on the center of the cab shows wear, but still works, having been liberally wrapped in gaffe tape. The original multi-pin head to cabinet cable has also been substituted for a more convenient and versatile 1/4plug, and the six shockmounts that suspend the head above the mounting tray are all brand new components from Fliptops, ensuring no rotted out rubber and a secure connection between the head and mounting tray when transporting the amp. Overall, this amp is a complete and serviced road warrior, ready for another half century of use. Ampeg B-15- N Portaflex tube amp The Ampeg B-15-N Portaflex of the 1960s, is considered the most recorded bass amplifier in history — and with good reason. This all-tube “fliptop” bass combo amp pairs a 25-watt top with simple volume and tone controls to a cabinet which contributes significantly to the deep, classic tone that the B-15N can get you in a heartbeat. The top tier of bass players quickly adopted the B-15, including James Jamerson, John Paul Jones and Bill Wyman, and these amps remain studio staples even today. When it comes time to move the B-15N, the top can be flipped and secured inside the cabinet for transport, giving you the portability of combo amps and the stability and flexibility of piggyback stacks. This item is obviously used and so I took to local guiter shop to test. Everything works but could use a professional cleaning. Took pleanty of photos and speaker inside box is missing. Thabks and good luck. The item “AMPEG B-15-N PORTAFLEX fliptop Vintage tube Amp Tested works” is in sale since Monday, September 24, 2018.
