For sale is a matching vintage Lafayette tube audio pair consisting of an LT-80A FM tuner and LA-55 mono integrated amplifier. Both units have been fully restored, serviced, and tested. They are operating properly and sound excellent. The LT-80A has strong FM sensitivity and receives weaker stations well, even with a very basic antenna. The AFC functions correctly and keeps stations locked in once the tuner has warmed up. As is typical with vintage tube FM equipment, there may be a small amount of warm-up drift with AFC switched off. The LA-55 amplifier plays clearly and strongly with no significant hum or operational issues. Controls, switches, and functions have been checked. Cosmetically, both pieces are in nice overall condition for their age. They present well as a matching set, though they are not museum-perfect and show some normal age-related wear. Please review the photos carefully for exact cosmetic condition. This is a great opportunity to own a restored matching Lafayette tube tuner and amplifier set that is ready to use, rather than an untested project.
Other than the tubes and one of the power cord plugs, these pristine amps appear to be all original. All of the tubes recently tested strong and they are a combination of vintage RCA and vintage Sylvania brand tubes. All of the 5881 output tubes are vintage RCA matched tubes. As the photos show, these amps are extremely clean for their age, including all of the original potted transformers. You would have a hard time finding another pair of these late 1950′s tube amps in such clean and great sounding condition. These amps comes exactly as shown in the photos with all of the tubes shown. These speakers were just removed from their factory cabinet. They are a matching pair of 1959 smooth cone Jensen P15Q speakers. They have only been hooked to a low wattage tube organ amplifier and have never had more than 10 W through them combined. The original cones have no rips holes or voice coil rub. The frames look excellent with no rust anywhere.
This particular pair tests as NOS+ and are almost perfectly matched. I pulled and matched these from a group of about 20 vintage RCA black plate 6L6GC’s of the same style and these 2 were the strongest, closest matched tubes of the entire group, and while the style of print on them is a little different, their internal construction is identical. Also one tube’s top glass dome is slightly taller than the other, but this is also purely cosmetic. One tube has a CG/1968 date code, and the other a DE/1970 code. The tubes’ test results are displayed in the photos New 6L6 Spec 100% = 6,0. See the photos for physical / cosmetic condition. Also, t he tube boxes are original reused RCA boxes, and not original to 6L6s or these tubes. Notes Regarding Tube Tests. Up for sale is a vintage Ampex Model 620 powered amplifier-speaker monitor. This unit is in beautiful cosmetic condition with a clean faceplate, original knobs, intact grill cloth, and a solid suitcase enclosure. Ampex Model 620 powered amplifier-speaker monitor I have used for years. Sometimes in my studio and sometimes in remote recordings. It has a JBL speakers and both units are in very good condition all original with power cables. I did recap it about 11 or 12 years ago. The brown leather-like exterior shows some minor scuffing and signs of use consistent with its age, including minor paint scrapes on the side ventilation grill, light surface oxidation on the metal rim around the rear recessed panel. When closed, the case measures approximately 17 x 14 x 8 1/2 inches and weighs about 24 pounds. This item is listed in multiple sites as well as locally.
