Up for sale, a 1951 Fender Pro, fully serviced and retaining the original tweed and transformers, complete with a vintage tube set. This was the very first iteration of this classic lacquered tweed “TV front” model, and this era Pro is perhaps best known as being the amp Buddy Holly recorded all of his hits on at the Norman Petty studio in New Mexico. The baffle and face of the cabinet have been altered (presumably to resemble the later “narrow panel” Tweed amps) with a more squared-off appearance and modified baffle mounting brackets. A very powerful and high fidelity amp in its day, the Pro pushed close to 40 sweet and dynamic tube watts through one 15 Jensen P15N alnico speaker. The early octal preamp tubes give these TV front amps a different tonal color than any later Fenders, as the octals have a more girthy midrange and a kind of warmth that can’t be achieved with the later dual triode (12AX7, etc) tubes Fender used from the mid-1950′s through the present day. Just like you’d expect with Buddy Holly’s cutting and robust rhythm sound, the Pro can give you primitive Fender cleans that chime and growl, with surprising headroom and a tone that overall really fills out the frequency spectrum when paired with Fender’s single coil pickups of the day. The circuit has been maintained faithful to original factory spec, with a full recap of the power supply with high quality Sprague Atom filter caps. The preamp has replaced caps as well, with replica white Astron sleeves on what appear to be genuine vintage blue Ajax capacitors (as Fender would use in their later Brown and Black Panel amps). The original trio of Stackpole pots have visible date codes from the 18th week of’51. The original Triad power transformer is intact, along with the stock output transformer mounted to the speaker frame. The amp has also been fitted with a modern three-prong power cable. The power tubes are a pair of properly-biased vintage USA-made RCA 6L6GCs, with a GE-branded 5U4 rectifier and trio of RCA 6SC7 preamp tubes. The chassis is in great overall condition, with only a light speckling of patina and the majority of the original white silkscreen text intact. All three original chicken head knobs are present too, along with a modern leather handle and original metal Fender logo on the face. The Jensen P15N speaker is stock, sporting a clean dark green frame and original Jensen foil label on the bell cover. The original tube chart is present as well and very clean with crisp corners and hand-inked serial number. The original low contrast diagonal tweed is intact, and the tweed is deeply ambered. The tweed covering is no longer present on the bottom of the cabinet, and the baffle has been regrilled with vintage-style oxblood/gold stripe cloth. As the cabinet’s face was altered from the TV front design to a more squared off appearance, the baffle is mounted to the cabinet by a number of L-shaped brackets.

Up for sale, a 1954 Gibson GA-20 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Featuring original two-tone cosmetics, a Jensen P12R speaker, and a professionally serviced circuit, this GA-20 is the perfect mid-size combo from the golden age of tube amplification. In many ways analogous to Fender’s narrow panel tweed amps of the same era, the GA-20 features a four input design with a 6V6 power tube pair, 5Y3GT rectifier, and dual triode (12AX7, etc) tubes in the preamp. Offering distinctly different voicings between the single Microphone input and the three Instrument inputs, the GA-20 is at its most aggressive via the Mic channel. While this input does offer a modicum of clean headroom, it quickly overdrives with a sizzling, chewy sound that’s extremely smooth. The Tone control has an absolutely massive sweep, actually adding a bit more gain when turned up. Maxing out both Volume and Tone knobs yields a ripping, cutting sound that interacts equally well with single coils and humbuckers. The Instrument inputs have more range in the clean signal, with a full-bodied and sweet sound that works well with a host of effects pedals. Turning down the Tone knob on this channel and pushing the Volume can achieve a very nice bark and a spitty quality almost akin to certain fuzz boxes, depending on the guitar being used, and once again diming everything out delivers plenty of richness and roar. The point-to-point circuit has been professionally serviced and thoroughly recapped with premium tubular signal caps in the preamp and F&T power supply caps. The output transformer has been replaced with a vintage-accurate Mercury Magnetics ToneClone GA20-O, mounted to the speaker frame, while the original power transformer is intact, mounted to the back of the chassis. The speaker is the original Jensen P12R alnico magnet driver which has a dark blue/green frame. The speaker has been recently professionally reconed, and the date code on the edge of the frame is from the 9th week of’54. The original two-tone covering exhibits limited wear (particularly when considering the fragility of this material compared to a conventional tolex or tweed), primarily concentrated around the edges, and half of the gold Gibson badge is still intact on the amp’s face. The graphics on the brown faceplate are clean, the brown chickenhead knobs are present, and the leather handle has been replaced.

Up for sale, a 1963 Gibson GA-30RVT Invader in great condition, complete with the original footswitch. Please examine the pictures closely for a complete description. This GA-30RVT has a complete vintage tube set and a pair of original Jensen speakers-a 12″ C12R ceramic magnet driver and a 10″ P10R alnico magnet speaker. This amp is surprisingly quiet and sounds great. Cleans are clear and bold. The Reverb is unique and acts as a volume control as opposed to a wet/dry mix. This allows the effect to be heard with the amp volume otherwise at zero (a particularly ethereal sound), and also causes the reverb to have its own natural overdrive characteristics when you crank it. The Tremolo is particularly dimensional and deep with a strong throbbing quality. The circuit is original and professionally serviced only as strictly necessary, with new electrolytic caps and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the original transformers are intact and all of the pots are original as well. This model has 8 Tubes and include a matched pair of Westinghouse 7591 power tubes, a Amperex Bugle Boy rectifier, and original RCA-branded valves in the preamp. The amp schematic appears to be identical to the early and coveted Epiphone EA-12 RVT Futura. The speakers are both original to the amp. In addition, there is a switchable external jack that cuts off the connection to the output transformer, allowing you to easily use this as a stand alone speaker cabinet. The cabinet construction is impressive and the overall unit is unbelievably clean. The amp features its original smooth brown covering and two-tone grillcloth, with a large Gibson badge on the face, almost pristine graphics on the aluminum faceplate, and a full complement of reflector cap knobs. The original (hard-wired) two-button footswitch is included.

Up for sale, a 1965 Flot-A-Tone Model 600 1×12 combo amp, near-mint and in perfect working order, outfitted with a complete vintage tube set. Distributed by the Lo Duca brothers (best known for the EKO line of guitars), these hand-wired amps failed to establish a strong foothold in the industry during the company’s lifetime, but they’ve since garnered a devoted following due to their association with legendary tone purists Ry Cooder and G. This Model 600 was one of the final Flot-A-Tone amps ever produced, crafted in the second to last month of production and featuring a dual-channel, dual-input design. This particular Model 600 is also notable for boasting a rare Reverb circuit, a non-standard modification to the platform made at the factory to the final Flot-A-Tones produced and seen on sparingly few examples. Flot-A-Tone amps are renowned for their robust Tweed-style tone, and this Model 600 is warm, thick, and harmonic complex, pushing roughly 25 watts. While the cleans are smooth and atmospheric, cranked up the amp cascades into creamy breakup. The two channels offer marginal differences in power and overall bite: Channel 2 has a rounded punch, while Channel 1 has a dynamic, touch-sensitive dimensionality and a hair more clean headroom. The Tremolo is very musical and natural, subtle for most of the range and getting into wonderfully thick pulsations towards the limits of the Speed and Intensity controls with a pronounced vocal-like effect that is unique to Flot-A-Tone amplifiers. The Reverb has a nice splashy quality, tube-driven with a full-length two-spring tank. The circuit is largely original and professionally serviced, with a number of modern electrolytics and a few Sprague Orange Drops as well. The original Centralab pots date to 1965, and the original transformers are present. The tube complement comprises a pair of RCA 6L6 power tubes, with vintage valves from RCA and General Electric in the preamp. The original Jensen Concert EM1202 (C12N) 12 speaker is present, professionally reconed, and the date stamp on the edge of the frame translates to the 18th week of 1965. Cosmetic touches include black tolex, wheat grillcloth, white piping and a rare “Reverb” badge. There are only a few minor marks on the enclosure, and the chrome-plated faceplate is in great shape with clean white silkscreened lettering.

Up for sale, a 1957 Gibson GA-20 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Featuring original two-tone cosmetics, a positively gleaming chrome faceplate, a Jensen P12R speaker, and a very original and professionally serviced circuit, this GA-20 is the perfect mid-size combo from the golden age of tube amplification. In many ways analogous to Fender’s narrow panel tweed amps of the same era, the GA-20 features a four input design with a 6V6 power tube pair, 5Y3 rectifier, and dual triode (12AX7, etc) tubes in the preamp. The point-to-point circuit has been professionally serviced, and the preamp retains a trio of original yellow Astrons, the same capacitors used in Fender’s narrow panel tweed circuits, and a key component in the musical nature of those preamps. There are a few modern Jupiter tubular caps in the preamp (which faithfully replicate the design and tonal properties of an Astron), and the power supply has been recapped with high quality F&Ts. The original output transformer is intact, and while it would have originally been mounted to the speaker frame, the transformer has been relocated to the chassis. The source-date code on the output transformer dates to the 14th week of 1957. The power transformer is a modern premium replacement courtesy of Mercury Magnetics, fitted with the original “GA-20″-embossed bell cover. The speaker is the original Jensen P12R alnico magnet driver which has a dark blue/green frame. The speaker has been recently professionally reconed, and the date code on the edge of the frame is from the 22nd week of’57. The original two-tone brown and fawn covering is remarkably clean, especially considering the fragility of this material compared to a conventional tolex or even tweed. The chrome plating on the faceplate is extremely nice, and the amp retains all of its original black silkscreen graphics. The gold Gibson badge is no longer present on the amp’s face, and the luggage-style handle is present.
