Up for sale, a 1969 Ampeg B-15N Portaflex tube amp in good working order, complete with the original trolley and full vintage tube set. The B-15N is one of the most recorded and highly regarded tube bass amp circuits of all time, and this classic four-input vintage model delivers the goods through the original 15 Eminence ceramic magnet speaker. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg at their Linden, NJ factory and just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, the amp is powered by a matched pair of properly biased Phillips 6L6GC power tubes. Notable for the addition of Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo rocker switches for each channel not found on earlier iterations, this B-15N has surprising output given its modest power and excels at a dynamic and detailed tone that can be extremely warm, or distinct and bright. Paired with a Precision Bass, it’s the perfect recipe for Motown thump. The original transformers are both present, and the preamp is virtually untouched, with original CTS pots that date to mid-1969. Along with the Phillips 6L6 power tubs, the amp features a trio of original Ampeg-branded octal preamp tubes and a vintage 5AR4 rectifier. A new three-prong power cable has been installed. The stock Eminence speaker has a clean frame and date code from the 24th week of 1969. The cabinet retains the original smooth black tolex, while the baffle has been professionally regrilled with black and silver cloth that closely matches vintage spec and is fitted with the original large metal Ampeg badge. The faceplate retains virtually all of the original blue pinstriping. Wear on the cabinet includes minor scuffs and edge wear, with wear through the tolex on the back two top corners and a couple isolated additional spots. As the photos show, this B-15N would look great in a studio. The original screw-on trolley is included. Great sounding head in strong condition. I decided to keep my Ampeg Gemini 2×12 Combo so this goes. Sounds like vintage Ampeg on bass and guitar. Plenty of headroom, and nice punchy low end when the amp is pushed. I think both channels served well for both guitar stuff, and my bass needs. No real major blems, but does have some wear. All electronics are working as seen in the short demo. This is a great sounding piece of Ampeg gear that has been well cared for over time. Here’s a short video demo of the amp going through paces.. No items have been lost yet! Unless agreed upon by me. I will not claim a lower price than the sale price. This will probably never occur, but just in case would know. I keep things I need/love, then sell them to you to keep the process going. Has worked well for me. Rest assured though things leave here tested and working. First off, this amp is amazing, it has been serviced. I had the caps and tremolo looked at, repaired, and 3 prong cord installed. Unfortunately, the reverb is not really working. The reverb signal is very faint. I have tried different tanks but no such luck. The tremolo is 100% and trippy as hell. It goes from vintage smooth to hard square-rhythmic chopping. WARNINGDaisy chain this amp and it WILL melt faces! The alnico CTS speaker looks original, or at least within the decade. Either way, like I said great sounding amp. A classic all tube vintage monster at a great price. Point to point, easy to access and repair, mod, whatever. Weighs around 35 pounds. The leather handle is a replacement. Up for sale, a 1971 Ampeg SVT tube bass amplifier head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Ampeg debuted the Super Vacuum Tube “SVT” amplifier in the summer of 69 at the Chicago N. This amp was a milestone design, utilizing 300 watts of all-tube power specifically geared for larger venues, cementing its place in the live world as the defacto standard backline stage rig. An original Linden, New Jersey made example with blue line cosmetics, this SVT has been serviced and maintained to play its best, with rich, authoritative, articulate low end, ample warmth, and distinctly smooth Ampeg tone. This SVT boasts a new matched sextet of 6550 JJ power tubes and has been serviced as needed, with a full recap of the power supply, as well as a hard-wired three-prong power cable and 1/4 speaker cable. A fan has been mounted too, ensuring the amp doesn’t overheat with the incredible voltage of the six power tubes. The Electrical Windings Company power transformer and filament transformer have matching date codes that read the 12th week of 1971, and the original output transformer is intact as well. The original CTS pot codes date to the 51st week of 1970. Cosmetically, this amp is in great shape with original smooth black tolex and original grill cloth. The grill cloth has aged uniformly, and the tolex is in very good condition overall with some light wear around the edges and on the bottom of the enclosure. The faceplate is very clean, retaining all of the original knobs and the distinct blue line screen print graphics. A padded flight case is included.
