Just in at Tone Chasers Music is this 1964 Magnatone M14. This amplifier is in very good condition with the pictured slight snags in the grill and scuffs in the plastic being the most significant signs of wear.

This is a really clean example from the 1950′s before Magnatone got bought by Estey (Magna Electronics) Speakers are original and never re-coned and sound fantastic. Tubes are not original. New caps where needed (not much) and a modern grounded power cord has been added. Plug it in and rock out. Of course the legendary pitch shifting vibrato is there. In my opinion this is the best vintage Magnatone model ever made. Enough power to play with a band and the tubes aren’t ridiculous to find when you need to replace one. This is the one. Up for sale, a 1961 Magnatone Estey “Venus” Custom 480 vintage tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Fully serviced and extremely original with the original Oxford speaker and tweeter pair, this Magnatone is a studio-worthy example. Introduced as Magnatone’s flagship model to replace the earlier Magna Electric 280, the 480 adds tube driven spring reverb to the mix, the inclusion of which coincided with Magnatone’s sale to the Estey company. A true stereo amplifier featuring Magnatone’s legendary varistor powered true pitch vibrato, the Magnatone 480 sports two 12″ main drivers and a pair of 5×7″ midrange speakers as well for a very full and well-rounded tube tone. As the top of the line Magnatone amplifier, the 480 has one of the most complex true point-to-point hand wired circuit every conceived of for a tube amp, featuring thirteen tubes and one transistor. With all of the features on these Magnatones and a price point higher than the Fender Twin of the same era, very few were produced and even less show up on the market, let alone in perfect working order like the one offered here. The tone is just heavenly, with smooth tube breakup and two distinctly voiced channels, each with its own Loudness, Treble, and Bass controls. Add Magnatone’s distinctive sounding reverb on top of that swampy, thick vibrato and you’ve got a sound like no one else on your block. The circuit is freshly serviced, with a few new electrolytic caps as well as a few key swapped components in the preamp to ensure that everything is operating within factory spec. All of the original blue Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, and the CTS pots date to the 23rd week of 1961. The stock Schumacher power transformer dates to 1961, and the pair of output transformers have matching date codes from the 39th week of’61. The two primary speakers are the original Oxford 12L5N drivers with extremely clean frames and late’61 date codes. Which date to 1961. The two 5×7 midrange speakers (hidden by the chassis and not typically visible) are also original and still wired via the stock crossover. The cabinet retains the original brown textured bindery cloth, and this fragile covering is notably clean, with very limited wear on the edges of the enclosure. The original grillcloth has plenty of sparkle in the gold sparkle thread, and the original faceplace is nigh flawless with original silkscreen lettering. The faceplate retains a full compliment of stock knobs, and the two tone brown and gold faceplate is also in remarkable shape. The silkscreening is far thinner than Fender amps, so to find a 480 in this condition is quite uncommon in every respect. As Magnatone’s top of the line combo and an amp in production for less than two full years, this 480 is a studio and stage ready marvel, with the rich, three-dimensional vibrato and dynamic tone distinctive to this make and model. Up for sale, a 1963 Magnatone Custom M6 in excellent condition and in good working order. This Magnatone/Estey amp was produced only from mid 1963-64, and features the quintessential Magnatone sound and true pitch vibrato. This two channel amp delivers a dynamic and warm clean tone that quickly saturates into smooth tube overdrive as you turn up the volume dial. The varistor vibrato is the same design used in earlier top-tier Magnatone models and it has a dimension and depth that no other vibrato can match! Rated at roughly 25 watts with a pair of vintage Sylvania 7189 power tubes, this amp is voiced through a single Oxford 12 speaker. This M6 is a particularly clean example, with the short-lived yet very sturdy wood reinforced plastic cabinet. The steel chassis for the preamp is connected to the overbuilt amp handle, and the preamp is very tech friendly, point-to-point wired and accessible by removing only two bolts on either side of the chassis. Featuring original gold sparkle grillcloth and gold accents, the M6 is a real looker with a Magnatone “M” that lights up on the top of the amp when in operation. The circuit is very original, with stock CTS pots that date to late’61, the original blue molded Ajax tone caps and untouched solder joints. The transformers are original as well. The amp features a nice selection of vintage preamp tubes along with a matched pair of Sylvania 7189 power tubes (same pin out and similar tonal characteristics to an EL84, but able to generate higher plate voltages). The alnico Oxford 12K5 speaker is original, sound great, and dates to the 38th week of 1963. Cosmetically, this Magnatone is very clean. The faceplate shows some light wear and the gold caps on the knobs are missing, although all of the original knobs are intact. There is also a tiny amount of surface rust in a couple spots on the faceplate and a few scuffs on the cab, but as the photos show, there is no serious or structural wear of any kind. This has a great Pitch shifting Vibrato and reverb. These are 38 watts, all tube and a 12 inch speaker. This is a great working Magnatone amplifier. This has Reverb and Vibrato… There are two channels and also has a stereo input to blend the channels. The has the speaker cloth replaced. Tested and was working and sounding great… The light bulb does not light up… One tab broke off pot. This was tested and sounded great… When I initially turned it was a bit noisy. But after using it and cleaning the pots a bit she was nice and quiet. This tested and working. I a not an expert. If it needs some servicing then you will be responsible… Thanks and all the best….
