Up for sale, a 1962 Ampeg B-12-X in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. An early, collector-grade example, this rare Ampeg features the Navy Random Flair tolex which preceded the blue diamond covering Ampeg used extensively in later years, complete with the original satellite speaker for the Reverb effect, as well as the original matching trolley and two-button footswitch. One of the physically larger and more complex designs in the Portaflex series, the B-12-X features both vibrato and reverb through a ported cabinet outfitted with the original Jensen 12 ceramic driver. Stocked with a host of vintage preamp tubes as well as a fresh, properly biased pair of Tung Sol small bottle 6L6 power tubes, the B-12-X delivers a tone that has warmth, clarity and the rich overdrive characteristics commonly associated with Ampeg’s best designs. The physical size of the cabinet and ported design adds extra low end fullness too, and the EQ controls have a wide, useful sweep. The vibrato (not tremolo like most amps), has a deep, warbling pulse with a swirling, Leslie-like effect that is extremely lush. The reverb utilizes the original Accutronics two-spring tank, and curiously enough, is designed to only operate via the satellite cabinet, which is included and boasts its own original oval alnico speaker. The circuit is clean and stock, with only a few minor component substitutions to keep the amp operating within original factory spec. The turret board design is true to how the amp left the factory, with original transformers and CTS pots that date to late 1961. The chassis has incredible shine with bright chrome plating and pristine white silkscreen lettering. Central to the face of the amp, a lucite, light-up “Ampeg” logo is present, secured with two new tiny screws. Inside the cabinet, the original tube chart is fully intact, dating to 1962, and the original Jensen 12 speaker offers a very smooth and pleasing voice that compliments the circuit design. Cosmetically, the original Navy Random Flair covering and silver grillcloth are intact and stunningly clean. A blue textured covering with dense silver sparkles, Navy Random Flair has a subtle distinction all its own. The original chrome side handles are present, and the stock blue leather handle central to the mounting tray of the head shows wear, but still works. The original multi-pin head to cabinet cable is intact, and the six shockmounts that suspend the head above the mounting tray are all brand new components from Fliptops, ensuring no rotted out rubber and a secure connection between the head and mounting tray when transporting the amp. The matching trolley is included, and the satellite Reverb cabinet and two-button footswitch both have their own dedicated spots to secure inside the cabinet. Up for sale, a 1970 Ampeg B-15N Portaflex tube amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order, complete with the original trolley and cover. The B-15N is one of the most recorded and highly regarded tube bass amp circuits of all time, and this classic four-input vintage model delivers the goods through the original 15 Eminence ceramic magnet speaker. Manufactured in the USA by Ampeg at their Linden, NJ factory and just given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, the amp is powered by a matched pair of properly biased Tung Sol 6L6GC power tubes. Notable for the addition of Ultra-Hi and Ultra-Lo rocker switches for each channel not found on earlier iterations, this B-15N has surprising output given its modest power and excels at a dynamic and detailed tone that can be extremely warm, or distinct and bright. Paired with a Precision Bass, it’s the perfect recipe for Motown thump. The original transformers are both present, and the preamp is virtually untouched, with original CTS pots and visible date codes from the 21st week of 1970. Along with the Tung Sol 6L6 power tubs, the amp features a combination of modern and vintage octal preamp tubes as well as a vintage Mullard GZ34 rectifier. The stock Eminence speaker has a clean frame and date code from the 13th week of 1970. The cabinet retains the original smooth black tolex, silver sparkle grillcloth, and Ampeg badge. The faceplate retains virtually all of the original blue pinstriping, along with a full compliment of original knobs. Wear on the cabinet is limited to minor scuffs and light edge wear, and all original hardware is included and viable including the shockmounts for the head and original latches. As the photos show, this B-15N would look great in a studio. The original screw-on trolley is included, along with the original cover (not pictured). Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. Up for sale, a 1963 Vox AC30 in exceptional condition, complete with “Top Boost” circuitry. This early AC30 sounds nothing short of spectacular, and the clean tone is particularly robust, rich, and nuanced. Few amps sound as classic and familiar as an early JMI AC30, and this example excels with the incredibly dynamic, touch sensitive responsiveness, smooth tube saturation, and glassy clarity that has made this amp one of the most sought after of all time. One of the earliest AC30s we’ve ever had in the shop, the amp head boasts smooth black (pre-basketweave) tolex, brass vents, no corners, and a copper control panel. The list of AC30 enthusiasts is endless, with a story that began with the Shadows and quickly grew to include players such as the Beatles, U2, Queen and countless others. This amp delivers both the detailed cleans and midrange rich tube overdrive that are the hallmarks of the AC30 tone, not to mention providing fantastic vibrato and tremolo on the third pair of inputs! Fully restored, this head has been recovered with smooth black tolex and the cabinet is a new, factory spec reproduction courtesy of North Coast Music with black basketweave tolex. The chrome trolley is also a virtually new modern reproduction, and the cab is loaded with a fresh pair of Celestion Blue alnico speakers. The serial/model # plaque on the back of the head is also newer along with a Korg-era SBU-style handle on top. The Top Boost module is itself the stuff of legend, and this aftermarket module is authentic to the original design, with Bass and Treble controls powered by an additional 12AX7/ECC83 that really helped push the AC30 into new and uncharted tonal territory. Married specifically with the Brilliance inputs, the Top Boost module was reverse engineered from the tone stack of a Fender Twin Reverb and provides a musical and familiar EQ sweep in addition to an extra gain stage that helps coax rich harmonics, incredible cut, and more drive out of the amp. This amp boasts a very original and freshly serviced circuit, with stock Albion transformers. The circuit has been partially recapped, and the preamp features the vast majority of the original Wima tone capacitors. The pots have a “DK” date stamp which translates to April of 1963. The chassis itself is quite clean with a vibrant reddish copper faceplate that retains all of its lettering in addition to original chicken head knobs. A previous owner has also put a few hash marks for specific settings adjacent to a few of the knobs. The amp sports a set of newer JJ EL84 power tubes which sound fantastic and deliver an authentic British tone. The preamp tubes consist of mostly newer valves as well. Cosmetically, you won’t find a more squeaky clean looking amp, and this Vox present particularly well and deserves to be seen on stage or in a studio. This AC30 with Top Boost circuitry is the pinnacle of the Vox sound, and the amp that chimed its way into the hearts of millions on your favorite early Beatles records. Don’t miss out on this gem! Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! The head, cab, and trolley will all be packed separately for maximum protection while in transit. We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. International orders will be declared as merchandise, and the value of merchandise will be declared as the amount paid. We cannot declare anything as a gift or for a lesser value.
