Up for sale, a 1950 Silvertone 1342 vintage tube guitar amp in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This rare all-tube gem is from the first year of a short production run, complete with the original Rola 12 speaker. The original Silvertone catalog description heralds the 1342 as “low, wide and handsome, ” and the two-tone green and beige faux leather covering is indeed the amp’s standout cosmetic feature, accented by the original pressboard back panel and a clean silkscreened faceplate with chicken head knobs. The amp sounds great with a drive box in front of it to goose the 6V6s into a bit more compression and sparkle, and the open-back cabinet design lends the amp a smooth, airy quality. The circuit is very original, with stock transformers including a particularly overbuilt and massive power transformer. The connection between the speaker and chassis has been upgraded with more heavy-duty speaker wire, and a three-prong power cable has also been installed. The original Rola speaker dates to’50 and the speaker cone appears original, still working well without any flab. The two-tone deep green and beige covering (noted as imitation leather in the original catalog) shows some light wear on the edges of the trapezoidal speaker cab, but as the photos can attest, this Silvertone is an uncommonly well-kept example with a particularly clean faceplate and even the stock leather handle. Up for sale, a Sears Silvertone 1448 “Amp-in-Case” student model electric guitar and original tube amplifier built into the case. A short scale affair, this Silvertone has a particularly sweet hollow twang and a sparkle and breadth to the tone that belies the guitar’s simple construction and layout. Perfect for serious players and collectors alike, this set is clean and 100% original, with the trim around the guitar retaining a bright white color and the top and back featuring a deep black metalflake sparkle finish. This set is complete, right down to the elastic retainer for the original two-prong power cord and the original 1/4 cable. Even the vintage tubes are intact, and the amp fires up just as well as the day it left the factory, with a low noise floor and great class A tube tone. The guitar weighs 5lbs 4oz and has been setup with low action. The neck has a slender C shaped profile which stays fairly consistent in depth as you travel up the fretboard, measuring. 846 deep at the first fret and filling out to. 993 at the 12th fret. The original medium jumbo frets show virtually no wear on the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, with is a particularly nice cut of wood with dark chocolate stripes up the board. The original aluminum nut measures 1 3/4″ and the scale length is a mere 23 5/8″, perfect for effortless chording. The face of the headstock retains a very clean “Silvertone” script silkscreen logo, and the original “Skate Key” tuners are intact and function as intended. The electronics are untouched, with the original pots intact in the copper shielding tape “box, ” still sealed with factory tape. The chrome is very clean and the knobs retain their original paper Volume and Tone caps. Cosmetic wear is very minimal, and the guitar exhibits a few light scuffs on the pickguard as well as a. Few minor nicks and marks of wear primarily on the back and around the body horns. Overall, this 1448 is a notably clean example! The amplifier case is in good overall shape, with original wicker grillcloth, stock speaker and clean faceplate. The stock transformer is mounted to the frame of the speaker and dates to’65. The dark gray sparkle case retains the original hinges and handle, with some light wear on the case exterior, but nothing notable or structural. Here is a sweet old gal. The amp has that great George Smith tone. According to Rod Piazza George used one similar for many recordings. It has been recapped with American & German parts only. Tubes are all excellent. The one pre-amp tube up under the control panel is where I put a 12AU7 or any of the other lower gain tubes i. 12AY7, 5814, 6189, 12AZ7, 12AV7. Original speaker in great condition. The only item to note is that the killer tremolo bleeds through a tad without using a footswitch or shorting jack. I believe there is a shorting jack in there now. The item “1960 Silvertone 1432 Vintage Tube Amplifier Killer Harp Amp” is in sale since Monday, July 16, 2018. Dual Speaker Hi-Fidelity 1957 Just when I thought I’d seen the best in vintage HiFi’s, along comes this fabulous 1957 Silvertone! This has been completely restored, and looks and sounds simply fantastic: with it’s cool lines, and well thought out design, this HiFi optimizes the classic stylings of the 1950′s. Here it is playing an LP by the Ray Ellis Orchestra! This HiFi was lovingly restored: The cabinet has been recovered in a fantastic 50′s red, black and white, along with new speaker grill cloth in the front. The 4 speed Syntronic record changer has been completely taken apart and redone… This will play LP’s, 78′s and 45′s automatically, you can stack the records, and each one will drop in turn, and shut off when the last record is played! The powerful 6 tube amplifier has also been rebuilt, with all new components: new power cord, all new capacitors and resistors, and gold plated rca ipod input. Has On/Off Volume, Bass, Treble Radio/Phono and Tuning controls on top. A nice added bonus is the additional RCA hookup jack in the back, which makes it possible to listen to your ipod, or other external devise through the amp and speakers! The cool looking danish modern legs unscrew, in case you want to use this on a table top. Excellent condition all around, with only a couple small dings in the Dual Speaker face plate, and a little wear to the metal changer… What a fabulous vintage Silvertone; originally built, and proudly restored in the USA! See my other Hifi’s and radios currently listed! The item “Vtg 50s Silvertone Record Player/Radio HiFi Tube Amp Mid Century Modern Console” is in sale since Thursday, June 14, 2018. This has a couple of switches on it that have been modified to make it more useful for guitar. The “ground” switch is not a switch the bypasses the tone stack in channel one, channel two remain unaffected. The rotary knob next to channel one input bypasses the last gain stage to give the amp more clean, and less gain, this effects both channels. So this amp can be used as it was originally and with the mods, which makes the amp very versatile, it has an 8ohm speaker out jack, and the power chord has been updated to a 3 prong. Up for sale, a 1965 Silvertone model 1484 “Twin Twelve” piggyback tube amplifier in excellent condition and in perfect working order. 100% original with new 6L6 power tubes and a full compliment of stock preamp tubes, this Silvertone amp is a clean and well-kept example. Manufactured by Danelectro in the USA and marketed through Sears via their house brand “Silvertone, ” the 1484 was one of the top-tier department store amps of its day, and also an amp that’s found favor with todays players including Jack White and Beck. The 1484 “Twin Twelve” has an extremely smooth and rich breakup, with warm clean tones at low volumes that give way to a touch of tube overdrive at roughly half volume, and reach full tube saturation with a touch of compression anywhere beyond 7 on the dial. Both channels feature a pair of inputs (high and low) and both channels share the built-in Reverb and Tremolo effects. While the Tremolo has a nice strong pulse that gets quite thick and deep, the Reverb is infamous in its own right for its thin, trashy sound that’s perfect for lo-fi and surf tunes, with a unique gain structure and chimey top end character. The tank is working within factory spec, although the effect is heard mostly on the note decay. The circuit is original, with stock transformers and CTS pots that date to early’65. The speakers are a pair of original Jensen C12Q 12 drivers, with clean green frames, minty Jensen labels on the ceramic magnets, and the original wiring harness. The chassis is quite clean with all of the stock barrel knobs and all the black silkscreen text present on the aluminum faceplate. Of course, one of the coolest features of the 1484 is the ability to store the head in the back of the cabinet, held in by a couple of swiveling nylon tabs. The long speaker cable can be secured in the elastic straps on either side of the head cavity in the cab, and the whole package is surprisingly light and portable. In terms of cosmetic condition, this amp has been well cared for, with grillcloth that has plenty of sparkle in the thread, and only some modest scuffs and dings on the gray thatched exterior of the head and cab. Given the more fragile material used to cover the Silvertone amps (when compared to the tolex and nubtex utilize by Gibson, Fender, Vox and others), it makes the condition of this amp even more impressive, as most 1484s began to show wear even after light use. This amp, in contrast, likely lived at home and has been well preserved as the photos show! Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. International orders will be declared as merchandise, and the value of merchandise will be declared as the amount paid. We cannot declare anything as a gift or for a lesser value.
