Vintage Tube Amp

These three tubes came out of a seldom used Norelco tape player, tested 100% both sides, each tube. Seems to me the sub numbers are all the same. Appears number to me to be 165 41k2. Nice lettering, I think great tubes, but not a tube expert like some claim on here. I did not clean. I think nice virgin seldom used tubes, just my opinion. Not sure what more you can ask for in 3 LOT 12AX7 TUBES. Please see all pictures and use zoom feature. Often the pictures describe the item better than words. This particular set tests very strong and are closely balanced. The print on these tubes is extremely fragile and will easily rub off, most has already rubbed off on one of them, special care was taken not to rub off any more while testing (the one that still has the most print is the stronger of the 2). The tubes’ test results are displayed in the photos (New 12AX7 Spec 100% = 1,600 Gm). See the photos for physical / cosmetic condition. Notes Regarding Tube Tests. All tubes are tested on an Amplitrex AT-1000 tester in the automatic Fixed Bias Mode (for the most conservative results). This tube (7062/ E180CC) is virtually the same as a 5965 in regard to electrical specifications. Audiophiles have been seeking it out since the price is generally lower than the premium ECC81 NOS prices currently. Like the 5965, it has slightly lower gain than the 12AT7, and has the added advantage of a 10,000 hour heater life to make it another audiophile “secret” tube. These are superb tubes. This tube is about a half-inch taller than the standard 12AT7, so chassis space is an important consideration. Amperex Made in Holland 7062. Tv7 tested NOS TUBES. This is a very marginal test, only for. This test needs sound amplification; hearing listening to noise with headphones would indicate a real disaster inside a tube (THE shorts test WOULD already BE evidence OF THIS). There is nothing wrong with performing that noise test. This test is not going to tell you whether the tube will be silent in your SET (single ended triode) amp or in anything else. Ultimately, the best way of testing a tube for microphonics is in an actual chassis or amplifier similar to one in which it is intended to be used. Since amps have a wide variety of circuit designs and tube placement, this test is most effective in YOUR AMP or one that is almost identical. Hence, most people advertising tubes as tested for Noise or Microphonics are probably NOT testing them in any meaningful way for you. “Noise” and “Microphonics” are often buzzwords for other issues. There is a small percentage of tubes that have a problem with noise but far less than most people think. In properly designed circuits objectionable “tube noise” is seldom found. In other words, it is a rare tube that will be noisy when used in most circuits. Always check the data sheet of the tube you plan to use. Tube testers and noise testing. Tube testers do not test for these problems in the manner in which you think, except to the extent that a tube tester with sensitive leakage detection will find far more “noisy” tubes than a tube tester with only “fair” leakage sensitivity, to the extent that the noise is due to this problem. Listening through headphones to tube on a tester is half as good as putting in amp and listening for noise. PLEASE message me BEFORE you open a return. PLEASE NOTE: Tube silkscreen (lettering on the tubes) is VERY fragile. It can be wiped off and destroyed VERY easily.

True “noise testing” (other than using the tube in the exact equipment you plan to use it.) requires a highly sensitive mechanical-based or vibration-based test apparatus, and such devices were ONLY created and used by professional engineering and testing labs run by very large entities back in the old days- such as the US military, Westinghouse labs, etc. Furthermore, “Noise” and “Microphonics” are often buzzwords for other issues.
