Up for sale here is this vintage Harman Kardon Citation II tube amplifier. This is in fairly decent shape but does have some missing paint on the transformers, some light to moderate rust, and some overall moderate wear. The bottom cover is included, but there is no top cage, sorry. No tubes are included. The inside appears to have all the boards and parts, though I don’t know if it’s missing anything or not. The power cord is there but is frayed and should obviously be replaced. There is an ID number scratched above the rear meter, and the rear fuseholder is tucked inside the chassis for some reason. A proper rebuild on a Citation II involves replacing a TON of stuff, so realistically this isn’t that bad. You will probably want to completely disassemble this, sandblast and repaint the chassis and transformers, install new sockets, and do the full recap/rebuild. What you see is exactly what you get. I will guarantee the transformers to be good, but the rest of it is not guaranteed. Lease see my pictures for details. If you have any questions, please ask. This amp considered to be one of the best tube or any amplifiers ever made. The Citation II was recently sent to a local shop for a complete serviced. It is in perfect working order producing rich clear warmth powerful tube sound of more than 60 watts each channel. Cosmetically, it is still in great to excellent condition despite the age, it has some light minor scratches, and the left edge side of the chrome front plate is a little bent, but nothing major. This was my main listening amp for years. The power supply caps began to get noisy around 2009 and that’s when I clipped the power cable (to prevent it being used until repaired) and put it in the closet. No tubes are included in this sale. Nine years have passed and I’m no closer to re-building the power supply than I was in’09, so it’s somebody else’s project now. These things are glorious when tuned up and running. Up for sale here is this vintage Harman Kardon Citation II tube amplifier. This is in pretty good shape, with light to moderate overall wear and a bit of missing paint on the transformers. This has been updated to some extent by a previous owner. It has test points on the back instead of the meter, has a few new electrolytic caps underneath, and has some orange drop caps as well. This has been modified to run 7199 tubes in V1 and V4 positions instead of the original 12BY7s. I have no idea why, but this had 7199s in those sockets when I got it. The previous owner told me this was rewired to a Dynaco Stereo 70 circuit, with some new caps and new boards. This has 1/4 jacks on the back instead of RCA jacks–I don’t know why. I was told that this worked fine, but I turned it on and only got music out of the right channel. The left channel had a very faint hum. I’m sure it’s something minor, but either way, I’d recommend fully rebuilding this with updated circuitry. All tubes are included, and are untested but seem to work fine. Output tubes are Russian KT-88s. 12BY7s are vintage USA tubes, and the 7199s are one Russian and one USA. This includes the bottom cover but does not have a top cage/cover, sorry. The power cord is in good shape. The previous owner noted that some of the caps had been updated but that they had not set the bias or AC balance voltages. I do not know how good the modifications on this are, so I would suggest a complete rebuild on this–caps, tube sockets, etc. What you see is exactly what you get. I will guarantee the transformers to be good, but I do not feel this is ready for day-to-day use. Lease see my pictures for details. If you have any questions, please ask. This Citation II amp was just taken into to be looked at by a qualified professional that works on these amps and builds his own tube amps from scratch This is what was found. The power supply needs some work as it is not putting out a constant correct current. The tech by passed the power supply and the amp was working. He said the capacitors could use some replacing as any amp would of this age but everything that is important was nice and sound including the most important part the transformers. Overall nice cosmetics and again a great candidate for restoration. Will be packed very securely. Hi, here for sale is a classic vintage stereo tube power amplifier, the legendary Harman Kardon Citation 2. This has recently been fully serviced and works and sounds great. Tube lineup: six input 12BY7A tubes (Sylvania NOS) and four output KT88 tubes (recent Electro-Harmonix). Electrolytics in the power supply were replaced, and many caps were also changed.
