Up for sale, a 1972 Fender Bassman 10 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. A first year model, this Silverface Fender retains its original quad of Oxford speakers. Comparable to the Bassman 50 head in terms of power and design, the Bassman 10 has the classic, lightly compressed sound of the earlier Bassman models, with modest headroom before pushing into smooth tube overdrive at around 4 on the Volume dial. The channels are individually voiced (Bass/Normal and Bass/Studio), with the first channel having a Deep switch and overall darker tonal character with more limited EQ sweep, while the second channel covers a much wider frequency range in terms of EQ and also has the added bonus of a Midrange knob. The tone is classic Fender chime, with a clean sound that sparkles and is the perfect platform for an array of effects pedals. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced with a few new caps in the preamp and a full recap of the main filter caps as well. Both original Schumacher transformers are intact and date to 1972, along with the original CTS pots, which date back to late’71. The speaker quad is all original, and all four speakers retain their original cones (one speaker has a professional cone repair from a minor split). The tubes consist of a new matched pair of Sovtek 5881 power tubes and a trio of new matching Electro Harmonix 12AX7s. Cosmetically, the amp retains its original smooth black tolex as well as the stock silver sparkle grillcloth with blue stripe. The amp is very clean overall, with only one minor hole in the grill frame, and some minor scuffs and light wear on the edges of the enclosure. Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Super in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This Brownface Pre-CBS tube amp was produced early in’62 with original transformers, a very original and freshly serviced circuit, a full compliment of new tubes, and a pair of Oxford 10K5 speakers with original cones and molded brown Fender-branded bell covers. A direct descendant of the Tweed era Super amp, this early Brownface example delivers hi-fi clarity and sparkling, robust clean tones. Turning the amp up past 5 on the volume dial yields thick, chewy overdrive with great touch-sensitive responsiveness and EQ controls that have an incredibly wide sweep. And of course this is the most compact Brownface-era amp to feature the “Harmonic Vibrato” circuit. A true pitch shifting vibrato (not the tremolo found on most Fender amps), the Harmonic Vibrato sound has a thick, Leslie-esque throb and warble, with a three-dimensional quality and depth that is perfectly suited to the speaker compliment and cabinet size. Whether you want a slow, undulating swampy sound or faster, pulsating vibrato, this Super delivers the goods. The circuit has just been thoroughly tested by our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar and virtually all of the original blue Ajax and yellow Astron capacitors in the preamp are intact. The original CTS pots are all present too, dating to mid-1961. All of the original transformers are present, made by Fender’s primary supplier Schumacher, with date codes from the 42nd to 46th weeks of 1961. The tube chart rounds out the applicable date codes, with an “LC” stamp that translates to March of 1962. The power amp has been recapped with new F&Ts to guarantee reliable, trouble-free use for years to come. The tubes consist of a matched pair of Sovtek 5881s (6L6GCs) along with a host of new preamp tubes from Groove Tubes and JJ. The speakers are a pair of vintage, era-correct Oxford 10K5s with clean frames, original cones, stock brown plastic molded bell covers, and date codes from’63. The rough brown tolex is intact on both the cabinet and both original back panels. The tolex shows some wear on the bottom front edge of the enclosure, along with some requisite light scuffs, but is overall in great shape. The grillcloth is a genuine piece of early’60s wheat cloth professionally installed on the original baffle. All hardware is stock and accounted for including the brown plastic “dogbone” handle, corners, sphinx glides (feet), and flat “Fender” logo on the amp’s face. This Super is extremely original, freshly tested and serviced, and ready for stage and studio use. Up for sale, an early 1970 Fender Vibrolux Reverb in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Produced early in the Silverface run, this amp still has many of the hallmarks of the earlier Blackface design and circuit-wise is identical to the “drip edge” amps that preceded it. Tonally, the amp does everything you’d expect of your favorite Vibrolux Reverb, with a balanced, sparkly clean tone and just the right amount of headroom before giving in to smooth tube saturation and overdrive. There’s a reason why the Vibrolux is currently one of the most collectable and sought after vintage Fender amps, as it’s ideal for recording and also the perfect size for club gigs without overwhelming your bandmates. The balanced tone of the two 10 ceramic speakers, matched with a tube rectified 6L6 based circuit simply can’t be beat! Add Fender’s famed tube driven reverb and tremolo on top and you have one of the best tube amp designs ever conceived. The original Schumacher transformers date between late 1969 and early 1970 and the circuit has been serviced with new filter caps and bias cap to ensure that everything is operating as it should. All of the original CTS pots are present as well, and the amp has been upgraded with a heavy duty modern three-prong power cable. The speakers are a pair of era correct Oxford 10L6 10 ceramic speakers which are freshly restored. These speakers have cleaned and repainted black frames, new Fender blue foil labels, and professional recones. The tubes consist of a variety of newer and vintage preamp valves as well as a matched pair of Groove Tubes/Sovtek 6L6s. Cosmetically, the amp is very clean with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. The black tolex shows very little wear, and all of the stock hardware is intact. There is moderate wear on the silver aluminum faceplate, with some light scratches, but all of the text is bold and present, as well as the blue trim around the knobs. The original Fender metal logo (with tail) is intact on the face of the amp, along with the stock sphinx glides (feet), corners, and handle caps. The original two-button footswitch is included.
