This is a vintage Motorola from the sixties police radio/ walkie-talkie communication device. It has around 11-23 tubes in it… 11 covered & the others aren’t. I’m not including the big can filter capacitor. This would make a good small low watt tube amplifier, you would have to rewire it probably & it’s super cool and funky looking. This a very nice amplifier. It comes to you in it’s original boxes and styrofoam inserts, as you can see in the photos. Cosmetically, it looks good with some minimal wear on the cabinet. The faceplate still has the plastic film over it, so it’s in perfect condition. Operationally, it works as good as it looks! It’s currently wired for 117VAC. With no load, plate voltage sat at 2400VDC. When keyed-down, plate voltage sat at 2000VDC. With 70 watts of drive on 40 meters, we got 550 watts out. With all this, there was no hum coming from the power supply. Please realize that this is a vintage piece of equipment, and unless specifically noted above, it has not been fully restored with new components. It will inevitably need maintenance, however it’s impossible to know whether that will be next week or a few years down the road. Unless you are capable of doing this work yourself (or have access to someone who can), we suggest you revisit the idea of whether this is the right equipment for you. This is a nice amplifier. It has some scratches on the cabinet but looks good overall, particularly the faceplate with really looks great. Also included in the sale is a reproduction of the manual. With a line voltage of 230VAC, the plate voltage sat at 1850VDC in CW position. With 45 watts keyed-down on 40 meters we measured 500 watts out, which is about right as the manual calls for 1000W PEP and we can assume 50-60% efficiency. The tubes are getting extremely hot (orange in color) when we put the amp into high-voltage position. The L-4B was originally designed to only work with Drake equipment. This one has since been modified to work with other transceivers, and we used an IC-706MKIIG when testing rather than Drake equipment. Perhaps this won’t happen when using Drake gear? Bias current may need to be adjusted. There may be something else going on that we aren’t aware of. This item will be packaged using our InstaPak foam-in-bag system, ensuring the utmost protection! This amplifier looks pretty good. The faceplate looks great with practically no wear, and the cabinet looks good with only a few scuffs and a bit of white paint on the top above the transformer (see photos). For sale is a truly rare Fisher 20A in very nice condition. This unit has not been plugged in or turned on in many years. It seems to be completely original. I guarantee that the transformers are good, but please do not plug this amplifier in and expect it to work. It will need to be serviced first. Cosmetically it is nice, with normal scratches and wear consistent with age. Do see the photos of the bottom of the unit. Cage is missing the original screws as well as the Fisher emblem, but I will include a couple that do the job of holding it on. This amplifier is from my personal collection. This is a used Knight tube mono amplifier. It is in very good cosmetic condition; see the pictures. It uses EL84 output tubes in push-pull config. It is in stock form and has “phono” and “tuner” inputs. It can be rewired for more gain (it has 2 – 12AX7′s). It has been used recently and it sounds good, playing an entire CD without any problems (CD player was plugged into the “tuner” input). It had a new power transformer installed, but it still does not have a fuse (as it came from the factory). The chassis was painted where the new transformer was installed but the paint does not match the surrounding area. All the tubes tested good on a Sencore TC154 tube tester.
