This is a late 60s Sears 5XL, aka the model 1420. Uses 3 tubes, a 12au6 for preamp, 50c5 for power, and a 35w4 as a rectifier. This is one of 7 I’ve owned – they’re light, cheap, easy to fix, easy to mod, and still manage to sound pretty good. I usually add an isolation transformer, a fuse, and a grounded cord, but this one is still unmolested. All I did was replace the resistors and caps that were out of spec. I did mark the neutral side of the plug for extra safety, but I wouldn’t play this one while standing in a bathtub. Tolex on the case is still in okay shape. There’s some dried tape residue on the cab, so old it won’t come off. These are fun amps, especially if you like to carry them to practice or gigs — you don’t need a friend with a van, Or even a friend. The 1485 was the most powerful tube-powered amp that Sears ever made available. At just a shade under 240 bucks, it was also the most expensive. The only thing missing was an’11′ on the volume dial. This amp was the MAX. History: This was my 1st guitar amp when I bought it new way back in the early 1960′s. It originally came with a speaker cabinet but that was replaced early on with a much larger speaker cabinet for the wall of speakers look/sound. The last time I used this amp (a few years ago) I used it to drive a pair of Bose 901′s as a PA & it sounded great. No speakers are included in this sale. Amplifier is a Sears Silvertone Model 1485 with 120 Watts of power. Excellent shape & has a lot of powerful sound. Amplifier has 2-channels with 2-inputs per channel. Only the 2nd channel offers reverb & tremolo option. All original electronics including the tubes. Original Reverb & Tremolo footswitch is included. Reverb seems to works fine and can be switched on/off by footswitch. Tremolo (when tested with a microphone – no guitar available) sounds like it works fine but. Seems to shut off with footswitch. All 4-Amplifier inputs work fine with the exception of the tremolo concern noted above. Black and is a little rough around the front edges. DESCRIPTION Vintage SILVERTONE 1482 TUBE AMP Jensen Special Design C12R Recapped. All new Mojotone Vitamin T film capacitors, resistors, filter can capacitor. This is not original speaker, this Jensen sounded the very best out of 3 other speakers. This is in excellent condition and everything has been perfected to play without scratchy knobs or other issues, plug and play! Has shimmering highs and lush lows, tremolo is nice and strong. Cabinet has tin foil, speaker has speaker foam tape to make sure the amp cap doesnt rattle. This is a Pro Amp that sounds Amazing! Will include all old capacitors and parts. Old Pot is included and works, but while working on amp, thought it had issue, but was a bad resistor. So if you want to put original pot back in, its included! Vintage 1960s’ Sear’s Sivertone tube 1484′Twin Twelve’ amplifier chassis. This listing for the amplifier head chassis as shown in the photos; it also includes the the amp’s cabinet (also see photos).
