We hope you enjoy the photos and information presented herein. If you have any questions. The Sunn 200S model has a simple all tube design. Basic volume, treble, bass and a low and high boost switch make this amplifier straight forward but powerful and has a beautiful natural tone. This amp is powered by two 6550 tubes delivering somewhere between 60-75 watts of output. If you want that classic Mountain growly-bass sound, this is the amp that will deliver it. Depending on the cabinet you run it through you can get a bevy of different tones that have different classic vibes but is always all Sunn. When pushed through a 4×10″ or 4×12″ you can get some of that classic Marshall 50w crunch but a little bit more warmth and fatness. Through a bass cab, something with substantial sized speakers, you can get crazy fat tones that are bone shattering. There is one Dynaco transformer, and the other seems to be a correct replacement, it has a part number shown in a close-up photo. The 6550 outputs are matched, and the pres are not, there is one Tesla E83CC, the other is a Sylvania 6922 type, they work well together here. Issues are all cosmetic, it sounds incredible and looks like nothing else out there with the vintage hexagon patterned cloth grill and 50 years of age leaving the surfaces with relic type antiquing. There is no back panel. Two screws are missing (see underside shot). There is oxidation on many of the hardware elements, and to the transformers (the non-Dynaco type in particular). The bass knob is a replacement (and is missing the chrome trim), as are the rubber feet. General wear and tear. _gsrx_vers_827 GS 7.0.13 (827). This is a wonderful example of an early American made Sunn Solarus Tube amp head. These amps were used by Jimi Hendrix, Leslie West and many others. This one is in fine shape, a real survivor! It looks to be original w/o any major modifications. Someone along the way has replaced one of the transformers and added an extra long three pronged A/C cord. (Very handy) Has the original spring reverb tank that works and sounds great. The mid boost switch appears not to work. There are four inputs (two Bright and two Normal) Has Volume, Treble, Bass, Contour… Rate & Depth (for tremolo) & Reverb knobs that work flawlessly and are not scratchy when adjusted. Has On/Off, Stand By & Polarity Switches. Works well with pedals! Has two speaker inputs. One 16ohms and one 8ohms. Has an input for tremolo & reverb on/off pedal, (pedal not included) The tolex is in very good shape. No rips or tears and the handle is safe and secure. It uses two EL34s for power tubes and is rated at 40 watts. As you can see in the pictures, the chassis has been dated September 8 1969 in red marker. The same date appears on a round sticker on the side of the chassis The Sunn Musical Equipment Company’s history is about as “American Dream” as it gets. After a Portland-based band (The Kingsmen) had a little hit song called “Louie, Louie” in 1963 and found their amplifiers couldn’t fill larger halls, they enlisted the help of a family member to build them louder amps and thus Sunn was born. Up for sale, a 1968 Sunn 2000s vintage tube bass amplifier head paired with a Sunn 2×15 speaker cabinet in excellent condition and in perfect working order. The brainchild of Norm Sundholm, bass player for the Kingsmen, and his brother Conrad, the Sunn company was birthed out of the need for gear that reproduced powerful, rich clean tones that could compete on the world’s largest stages (not the least of which was Woodstock, where Sunn supplied the backline). The Sunn 2000S led that charge in the bass world, and the hi-fi clarity and sweet warmth of this all tube bass head is oft-copied but rarely replicated. With absolutely massive transformers and a dual rectified four 6550 powered circuit, this 2000S head powers a vintage Sunn 2×15 speaker cabinet with a pair of Gauss drivers. These highly efficient and powerful speakers do a great job of amplifying that signature Sunn sound, and the thick, clear low end reproduced by these speakers is a known quantity in the bass world. The list of Sunn bass amp users is prolific and includes Geddy Lee, John Paul Jones, John Entwistle, and Noel Redding. This 2000s head has been recently serviced, with a complete and professional recap of the power supply, as well as a modern three-prong power cable. The power tubes are a fresh quad of Tung Sol 6550s which been properly biased for optimal headroom and life. The rest of the tube compliment consists of a pair of NOS 5V4 rectifiers and dual triodes from the likes of Amperex and General Electric. The original CTS pots and pair of chokes have date codes from early 1968, and both transformers are made by Dynaco. While the output transformer is the more conventional Dynaco style seen in Sunn amps, the power transformer is an arguably earlier example that could very well be original as well, although the cosmetic differences between the two transformers are notable. Regardless, the 2000s is designed to be powered by Dynaco iron, and these transformers sound incredible. The speaker cab was produced a few years later than the head, with a slightly different style of original grillcloth, although it pairs very well with the head and features the same rough, dark gray tolex. This is the later iteration of the 200s cab, with the larger side port and front mounted speakers. Both the head and cabinet retain their original hardware including handles, corners, and casters. Cosmetically, both head and cabinet have been thoroughly cleaned, with only light scuffs and nicks on the two enclosures, and moderate aging of the grillcloth. The original metal Sunn logos are both present as well. This stack is massive, classic, and ready to head back out on the road or find a home in the studio!
