Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with stock Jensen C12N speakers and complete with fresh Tung Sol power tubes and original RCA preamp tubes. 100% original aside from a new bias cap and three-prong power cable, this vintage Blackface Fender amp is a true AA165 circuit Bassman with a Pre-CBS “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate and date codes between late 1964 and early’65. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB165 that would be seen through 1968. On this particular amp the tube chart still refers to the earlier AA864 circuit, but the chassis layout conforms to AA165 specs. The circuit retains all of the original transformers with a power transformer dating to the 46th week of 1964 and a power transformer that dates to the second week of’65. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the preamp and the amp even retains all of the stock filter caps which are working as intended with no leakage. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “OB” date stamp which translates to February of 1965. The amp is fitted with a modern three-prong cable. The tubes consist of a pair of brand new and properly biased Tung Sol 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes, along with a trio of RCA 12AX7s and a General Electric 12AT7 phase inverter tube. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of original Jensen C12N speakers, and these 12 drivers are arguably the most desirable speakers for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The frames are very clean, the original gold Jensen/Fender labels are present, and both speakers have their original cones. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex on the head and speaker cabinet. The grillcloth on the cabinet is original as well, while the head has genuine vintage cloth with aging consistent to the cab. There are only a few requisite scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, as well as one small bald spot on the cab just north of the front left corner. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of light patina on the hardware as well as faint aging of the grillcloth on the cab in particular, but that’s about the extent of any wear! This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to assure that your amp arrives safely. 1962 Fender Bassman 6G6B Blonde Brownface Vintage Piggyback Tube Amp Jensen C12N

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Bassman in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early iteration of the “Piggyback” version of this amplifier with rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth, this Brownface Bassman drives two vintage General Electric 6L6GC power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brownface circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge range and after around 5 on the volume dial the amp cascades into very rich tube overdrive that compresses noticeably and sounds great. It’s the kind of natural tube saturation that only comes from pushing a well designed Fender circuit to its limit. A Pre-CBS Fender Blonde Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones. It’s hard to beat the Bassman for a tone that bridges the gap between the warmth and nuance of the Brownface circuits and the shimmery cleans of the Blackface line! The circuit is very original and has been well maintained and recently serviced with fresh filter caps and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the famed blue Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, with stock Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and cloth wire. All of the Schumacher transformers are original with mid 1962 date codes. The output transformer dates to the 17th week of’62, while the power transformer dates to the 20th week of that year. The tube chart is mostly intact too. The tube compliment includes a pair of vintage General Electric 6L6GC power tubes that have been properly biased, and the preamp tubes are mostly vintage valves as well from the likes of RCA and General Electric. The speaker cabinet is a rare transitional small box design that has the same dimensions as the 1×12 Tone Ring cab that preceded it, along with the internal “fins” on the back panel and a partial central divider on the original baffle. Fitted with a pair of vintage Jensen C12N speakers, these drivers are an optimal pairing for the 6G6B Bassman circuit, and while these speakers aren’t original, they do date to early 1964 and are the same make and model used in many’60s Bassmans. Cosmetically, this is an excellent and well kept example of one of Fender’s most desirable Pre-CBS circuits. Both the head and cabinet retain their original rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth. In terms of hardware, the plastic “dogbone” handle on the head is original, while the handle on the cab is a modern replacement. The original faceplate is intact and quite clean, complete with original white barrel knobs. All other hardware is 100% stock, with original tilt-back chrome legs and stops, sphinx glides (feet), flat metal Fender logos, nickel corners and piggyback clip bars. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! Up for sale, a 1964 Fender Bassman head with the highly coveted 6G6-B circuit in excellent condition and in good working order. If you’re looking for the incredible power, sweetness, and range of a vintage Blonde era Fender Bassman, you’ll fall in love with this 6G6-B. The tone is robust, authoritative and after about 4 on the Volume dial, the sparkling Fender cleans give way to smooth tube overdrive, with incredible harmonic content and a dynamic, touch sensitive response. A Fender 6G6-B Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones! The circuit is virtually untouched, all of the original transformers are intact, and all of the famed original blue molded Ajax tone caps are present in the preamp as well. All transformers are made by Schumacher (Fender’s primary supplier in this era) with date codes from the 40th week of 1963 to the 19th week of’64. Even the original filter caps and bypass caps are intact and performing their functions well. All of the original CTS pots are intact, along with the original cloth wiring, also dating between late’63 and early’64. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed. The power tubes consist of a pair of vintage 6L6s, and in the preamp, this Bassman boasts three original matching RCA branded 12AX7s and a Telefunken 12AT7 phase inverter. The original smooth blonde tolex and gold sparkle grillcloth are intact and quite clean. There is a bit of light staining on the top and sides of the cab, where sap from knots in the pine cabinet has seeped through the tolex, as well as a few small cigarette burns. The faceplate is quite clean with original white barrel knobs. The original chassis straps, corners, and raised”Fender” logo are also intact, along with the piggyback clip bars. The tube chart is partially intact. This is a rare and well kept example of one of Fender’s most desirable Brownface amplifiers with transitional cosmetics! 1962 Fender Bassman 6G6-B Blonde Brownface Vintage Pre-CBS Piggyback Tube Amp

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Bassman head with the highly coveted 6G6-B circuit in excellent condition and in good working order. All of the original transformers are intact, and all of the famed original blue molded Ajax tone caps are present in the preamp as well. All transformers are made by Schumacher (Fender’s primary supplier in this era) with date codes from the 35th-36th weeks of 1962. The main filter caps and bias cap have been professionally replaced to keep the amp operating within original factory spec, along with new bypass caps and a few metal film resistors to keep the noise floor low. All of the original CTS pots are intact, along with the original cloth wiring. A modern three-prong power cable has been installed too. The tubes consist of a matched pair of new JJs which have been properly biased and sound fantastic. In the preamp, this Bassman boasts four original matching General Electric branded 12AX7s. The original rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth are intact and quite clean. There is a bit of staining on the top and sides of the cab on the tolex, while the faceplate is remarkably clean with original barrel knobs. The original chassis straps, corners, and flat “Fender” logo are also intact, along with the piggyback clip bars. Perhaps the most notable cosmetic feature is the original “dogbone” handle, which is unbroken and in remarkable shape. The tube chart is completely intact inside the cab too, with a “LJ” date stamp which translates to October of 1962. This is a rare and well kept example of one of Fender’s most desirable Brownface amplifiers with original blonde tolex!
