Takt 1960s vintage vacuum tube hand wired guitar amp

After Much deliberation I have decided to part with this little monster. Not much info out there on this one so I’ll tell you what I think I know. It was sitting around in the basement it was used and dusty and had not seen the light of day in a few years. I plugged it in and it fired right up and sounded great. I’ve got a lot of great deals on gear throughout the years but this was one of the best and one that I’ve kept the longest. These were made in japan in the early 60′s. It is hand wired, all vacuum tube. The speaker is 3w 80hm and 5 1/2 paper cone. Tubes are one 6AR5 and two 6AV6. I’ve never replaced the tubes and assume they are original. I guessing the power output is 5-10watts but I don’t really know. It appears to be all original with only a few cosmetic issues. The chrome cover for the Strap handle is missing and there are paint rubs and dirt smudges here and there. The grill is perfect without rips or stains. The red vinyl covering is also in very good shape, without any major rips or holes. The amp has never had any repairs or modifications to my knowledge. This thing sounds great. The paper cone speaker breaks up very musically. It handles pedals surprisingly well. I did find a youtube video of someone playing a similar amp if you want to check it out. Takt Amp and Ampeg Heavy Stud Guitar on youtube I’ve used this in the studio and it records fantastic. It can get a little noisy depending on pedals you use in front and what its sitting next too. But those have always been easy issues to solve. That being said Im not going to let it go without a fight. I don’t see any currently for sale anywhere online. I’m going to start at the low end of the middle and see where it goes. I have other amps that I don’t like near as much (pignose, Marshall, & mesa boogie) that I will be listing soon along with some other instruments and gear, so stay tuned (gotta thin the herd). Made in England vintage 1970′s Sound City 120B 120 Watt bass amplifier head. This head is a BEAST. Have built a loyal following over the years. He was afraid to plug it into a cabinet for fear that this mighty head might blow the speakers! I have since tested it out, plugging it into a Peavey 4×12 guitar cabinet. To my ear it sounded pretty good, and did not blow any speakers in the cabinet despite its power. Having been in storage for years I’m sure it could use some work. It has six (count’em six) EL34 power tubes providing the 120 watts, three of which of the legendary vintage Mullard EL34 power tubes, which I believe to be the original tubes. Of the 3 additional replacement EL34′s one is a vintage RCA, one a vintage GE and one a vintage Sylvania, all well respected tubes in their own right. All of the preamp tubes are Brimar (again, probably the original tubes). Two Partridge Transformer, which is what these heads originally came with. One does look newer so I don’t know if that might be a replacement. I can see that at least 3 of the pots have been replaced as they don’t match the rest. Some scratchiness in some of the pots. One of the knobs in the front was missing so I replaced that one with a “chicken head ” knob, which is the style of knob used on some Sound City heads. I used to sell a lot of guitar amps on here and in the past I would have taken a head such as this to an amp tech and would have paid hundreds of dollars to have them go through the amp and restore it prior to listing it. I will guaranteee it will power on. The general consensus (from what I’ve read in online threads) regarding these heads is that they could use some mods to improve their sound and playability, although there is some dispute as to the optimum mods that might be performed. Cosmetically this head is (in my opionion) in pretty good shape for a 40+ year old head. One small nick in the front bottom left section of the tolex but otherwise no rips or tears in the original tolex. Some wear in the top tolex and elsewhere. The white plastic “grounding” switch on the left portion of the back panel looks a bit stumpy–I don’t know if there was more there at opne time. I have priced this head taking into account the need for resoration and repair and would be listing it for MUCH more were it already restored. Up for sale, a 2008 Marshall JTM45 2245 vintage reissue tube amp head in near mint condition and in perfect working order. Marshall’s meticulous recreation of their original and highly coveted 30 watt circuit, the JTM45 is a two-channel four-input affair, driving a pair of 5881 (6L6) power tubes and boasting a GZ34 rectifier. Yielding plenty of volume and punch, this pure and dynamic Marshall circuit really shines when jumpering the two channels for cascading gain and fine-tuned overdrive textures. It’s a straightforward, top-tier Marshall circuit, virtually untouched since it left the factory save for a pair of more recent, properly biased power tubes. The smooth black tolex is practically perfect save for one small scuff on the back panel and a tiny bit of wear on one back bottom corner. The plexi control plate is clean as can be with its full compliment of knobs, and the small Marshall logo and gold piping top off this spectacular JTM45 reissue. The original Marshall-branded slip cover is included. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! In excellent working condition. USA made Accutronics Type 8 spring reverb tank. THD PLEXI REVERB 410. Resplendent in its tweed covering and brown grill. Cloth, the Plexi Reverb is the latest in THDs line of variations on the 4×10 Fender. The handbuilt combo features Normal and Bright channels, each with its. Own volume control and dual inputs. Both channels share a common set of treble, bass. Middle, and presence controls. The Plexi extracts 65 watts from a pair of Groove Tubes. EL34s to drive four 10 THD Longhorn speakers. The rear panel, or more correctly the. Underside of the chassis, contains the speaker and external speaker jacks, reverb knob. Effects send and return jacks, and footswitch jack. Theres also a mystery mode switch. Changes output impedance, thats intended as an additional tone control. We tried it-it works. Encased in a fi. Nger-jointed birch-ply cabinet, the THDs circuitry is exposed by. Removing a tweed-covered rear panel and a steel cover plate thats secured by 14 screws. This amp uses seven PC boards and one small bread-board containing the reverb send. The only IC we could fi. Nd is on this circuit, which serves as an impedance buffer. And takes the place of a reverb transformer. The interior is laid out neatly and the parts. Quality is very high. The two EL34s and four preamp tubes are affi. Xed to separate shock. Mounted assemblies; this helps protect the tubes from the kind of banging around theyre. Bound to receive in transit. This is a great idea; anything that prolongs tube life is a real. The reverb tank sits on rubber grommets, instead of being screwed directly to the. This helps to isolate the tank from the cabinets vibrations. The Plexi Reverb is protected by four internal fuses plus an external. A voltage selector is accessible through the steel cover plate; THD says. This selector acts like a Variac. You can set the selector to 140V and the amp. Will respond as if it were getting less than 100V. We tried this trick an found it lowers the. Volume and tightens up the bottom end. Handy meter points and detailed instructions make. This amp particularly easy to bias. The Plexi Reverb is a crunchy, distorted-sounding amp that exudes a strong rock. And roll persona with a bright, snarly, vintage Fender timbre. Plugged into the Bright. Channel, we could set the presence and treble knobs at zero and the tone would still be quite. In this channel, the controls are very interactive; we found that the unused Normal. Volume knob affected the bas frequencies even more than the bass control. Plugged into the Normal channel, the Bright volume knob acted like a notch fi. From 5-8 yielded a cool, skanky midrange dip. At settings above 8, the bass boosted to the. This interaction between channels does not occur to nearly the same. Degree on either the Kendrick 4212 or Fender Reissue Bassman; its the secret to getting a. Great sound from the THD. We A/Bd the Plexi with a particularly juicy 73 Marshall JMP 50-watt head, both. Amps driving similar 4×12 cabs, and found the THD sounded very close to it. Comes with a 12AY7 preamp tube in a special holder. You can swap this for the. 12AX7/7025 in the fi. Rst position for a cleaner sound. Custom mods are also available from. The Plexi, in fact, originated from a customers request. Its now THDs best. Comments: Nice sweet lead tone. Though it looks like a tweed, it sounds. Lots of sounds, thanks to the interactive volume controls. Reminiscent of Eric Johnson. The item “THD Plexi Bassman guitar tube amplifier 4×10 Vintage Speaker Tweed Spring Reverb” is in sale since Wednesday, February 27, 2019. Vintage Kamico Electric Guitar Tube Amp. There are dings and scuff to the finish and it was used quite frequently by the previous owner in their playing days. Backstory: This was an estate sale item from our neighbors. He was the only owner and had a few vintage instruments and amps that family did not take. He modified almost all of his gear , and as you can see in the picture, he added a metal plate to block some of the tube heat against the speaker, not sure if the ac cord is original. Unknown if internals are modified. One of the tubes appears to have been replaced as there was a tube similar to the other 2 that was in a bag with the amp. Not sure if the removed tube works as we are leaving this untouched. Powers on, tubes emit a warm glow – see last photo. Volume knob has static with movement so could most likely use a teardown cleaning and tubes, input and intervals checked over. Some static and hum are present – we only had an acoustic to plug in and pushed the volume to the max to test. Normally, this would not leave my hands but alas, my time as a working musician is over and this deserves to be played by someone who will bring new life to it and play it frequently. Ask any questions, if youd like specific photos feel free and we will do our best to accommodate. It will be packaged double boxed and bubble padded and insured with signature required so its not left out in the elements. Thank you for stopping by and I sincerely hope one of you gives this a new home and lots of love.
