1965 Fender Bassman Blackface Piggyback Vintage Tube Amp Head & 2x12 Cab, AA165

Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This vintage Blackface Fender amp is very original and loaded with a compliment of modern valves. For clarity, warmth, and headroom, this Bassman excels at delivering sweet and articulate Fender clean tones. Once you reach about 5 on the volume dial, the circuit starts to overdrive smoothly and compress a bit, for a raw, thick sound that’s perfect for guitar or bass. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals and is ready for stage and studio use. Arguably the circuit available for the briefest period of time in the Blackface era, the AA165 circuit designation is seen on many tube charts (Leo Fender was never one to waste anything), but under the hood, the actual AA165 circuit was only seen for a few months in early’65 before transitioning to the AB165 that would be seen through 1968. This amp is one of few to retain the original AA165 guts! The circuit retains all of the original transformers which date to early 1965 along with the CTS pots and chassis stamp. Both the preamp and power amp have been thoroughly maintained, with new Sprague Atom main filter caps and smaller Mallory caps in the preamp to ensure that the amp is operating within original factory spec. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present. The amp features a modern three-prong power cable as well. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of vintage Utah 12 speakers. These speakers are detailed, clear, and quite punchy, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. Tested against vintage pairs of Oxfords and Jensens, these Utahs were a surprise favorite, and the original black frames are quite clean, retaining the blue foil Fender labels on the magnets. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and raised Fender logos. The original faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. There’s a bit of patina on the hardware, and some expected scuffs and minor wear around the edges of the enclosures, but as the photos show, this Bassman presents very well and wound look great in a studio collection. This Bassman is clean, complete, and works exactly as intended for delivering powerful Fender cleans and thick overdriven textures. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! We use double thick boxes, 1″ foam, and industrial 1/2″ bubble wrap to ensure that your amp arrives safely. 1967 Fender Showman Vintage Blackface Piggyback Tube Amp Tone Ring Cab JBL D140F

Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Showman in excellent condition, complete with the matching 1×15 “Tone Ring” piggyback speaker cabinet. The Showman was Fender’s flagship tube amp in’67, and the Blackface circuit delivers incredible clean power and headroom, with a sweet sounding, versatile preamp. This particular Showman boasts a matched quad of Groove Tubes 6L6 power tubes and has just been given a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar. From full, tight bass to Fender sparkle and chime on the top end, this is an extremely tonally balanced amp, with plenty of mids on tap as well and strong tremolo. One very unique and desirable feature of the Showman is the ported Tone Ring speaker cabinet. This large 1×15 enclosure was designed to deliver the clearest, most pure Fender tone with a stock JBL D140F speaker, and as such utilizes a dual baffle board design in which the speaker floats between the baffles, mounted to a metal tone ring. This elegant design makes the Showman cab work as a closed back, ported enclosure and you’ll notice greater range of your EQ controls, ample bass response and an overall sweeter, balanced tone that you simply can’t get with any other Fender cabinet. Plus it just looks so darn impressive! The speaker cabinet retains all of its original fiberglass sound dampening sheets and the D140F sounds incredible with a professional recone. The circuit has been thoroughly serviced, with new filter caps in the power supply and smaller bypass and bias caps in the preamp. The preamp features new Sprague Orange Drop caps as well, and a three-prong cable has been installed. The original Schumacher output transformer and choke is present and date to 1966, while the power transformer is a genuine vintage Fender replacement that dates to 1972. The tube chart is complete and intact with a clear “QD” date stamp, which translates to April of 1967, while the original CTS pots date back to the 38th week of’66. This amp sports the original smooth black tolex which is in great shape overall, showing only minor scuffs and light wear along the edges of the head enclosure, while the speaker cab is remarkably clean. While the cab retains its original silver sparkle grillcloth, the head has had a vintage piece of genuine Fender grillcloth installed with similar tint to the cloth so that the head and cab are a perfect match. All of the hardware is intact as well including chrome tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars, handles, corners and raised metal Fender logos on both the head and speaker cabinet. This vintage Blackface Fender Showman is clean and complete. A testament to the enduring popularity, great tone and reliability of vintage Fender amps! Delivering 85 clean, all tube Fender watts through a JBL D140F, this amp is ideal for guitar, bass or your favorite Fender Rhodes or combo organ. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Tremolux in excellent condition and in good working order. This vintage Blackface Tremolux is from production run #2 as noted on the tube chart and has a “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate indicative of the very first “Pre-CBS” Blackface amps. The circuit has been serviced and the amp boasts a pair of vintage 6L6GC power tubes. The tone is stunning and quintessential Blackface Fender, with the perfect amount of clean headroom before the amp gives in to slightly compressed tube overdrive around 5 on the volume dial. The vibrato has a strong pulse to it as well and each channel has a similar voicing, although the Normal channel has just a touch more low end and midrange punch. The circuit retains all of the original Schumacher (Fender’s transformer supplier in the Blackface era) output transformer and choke which date to mid’65. The power transformer is a vintage Schumacher replacement which has a Fender part number and dates to 1967. The preamp features a combination of original blue molded Ajax capacitors and modern, high quality Sprague Orange Drops. The power amp has been professionally recapped as well. The power tubes are a matched pair of vintage 6L6s, and the preamp tubes are a mixture of newer and vintage valves. The stock CTS pots and chassis stamp date to 1965. The tube chart is intact with only light wear and a clean “OI” date stamp, which translates to September of 1965. The speaker cab boasts a pair of vintage correct Oxford 10L6 ceramic speakers. These speakers have black frames, original blue Fender foil labels, and original cones. Cosmetically, the amp retains the original silver sparkle grillcloth and smooth black tolex. The head is particularly clean with a minty faceplate and stock knobs. The nickel hardware shows moderate patina, with the original pat. Pending tilt back legs, piggyback clip bars and chrome thumb screws. The grillcloth on both the head and cab are uniformly aged as well. Vintage Silvertone tube amp. My friends son plugged in his bass. For a test session. It was a very warm. Old school sound that only a tube. Hand wired with quality Jensen speakers and RCA/Silvertone 6L6GC black plate tubes, t. He 1483 was intended to be a bass amp. Therefore, they are more rare then the other 1480 series amps. One tube seems brighter than the other when turned on. Blemishes but in overall great working vintage. The rubber handles on both the amp and the cabinet are in great condition with. No cracks and are amazingly still pliable. The metal hardware on the handles are also in very good condition with no corrosion. Badge looks good and the grill has a great vintage patina , no water marks but does have a scratch. Gray fabric material on the amp is in great condition but the cabinet has some tears. Some grey paint on the raw wood and a bit of scenic painting skills would work wonders to conceal the tears but I decided to leave it all original. Metal face of amp has some age/staining that may or may not come off.. Although this item is in working condition, this item will need cleaning or a bit of TLC to get it back to its original glory. The item “Vintage Sears Silvertone 1483 Tube Amplifier Piggyback” is in sale since Tuesday, July 11, 2017. 1965 Fender Bassman Blackface Piggyback Vintage Tube Amp AA165 FEIC, Jensen C12N

Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Bassman head and matching 2×12 cab loaded with stock Jensen C12N speakers and complete with fresh Tung Sol power tubes and original RCA preamp tubes. 100% original aside from a new bias cap and three-prong power cable, this vintage Blackface Fender amp is a true AA165 circuit Bassman with a Pre-CBS “Fender Electric Instruments” faceplate and date codes between late 1964 and early’65. It’s a simple and pure vintage Fender “piggyback” head and cab setup that provides a perfect platform for effect pedals, and is ready for stage and studio use. On this particular amp the tube chart still refers to the earlier AA864 circuit, but the chassis layout conforms to AA165 specs. The circuit retains all of the original transformers with a power transformer dating to the 46th week of 1964 and a power transformer that dates to the second week of’65. All of the original blue molded Ajax caps are present in the preamp and the amp even retains all of the stock filter caps which are working as intended with no leakage. On the inside of the head cabinet, the original tube chart is present with a “OB” date stamp which translates to February of 1965. The amp is fitted with a modern three-prong cable. The tubes consist of a pair of brand new and properly biased Tung Sol 5881 (6L6GC) power tubes, along with a trio of RCA 12AX7s and a General Electric 12AT7 phase inverter tube. The speaker cab is loaded with a pair of original Jensen C12N speakers, and these 12 drivers are arguably the most desirable speakers for the Blackface Bassman. These speakers are detailed, clear, and well balanced, overdriving with very rich and balanced overtones. The frames are very clean, the original gold Jensen/Fender labels are present, and both speakers have their original cones. Cosmetically, this is a clean and well cared for Bassman with original smooth black tolex on the head and speaker cabinet. The grillcloth on the cabinet is original as well, while the head has genuine vintage cloth with aging consistent to the cab. There are only a few requisite scuffs and nicks on the edges of the enclosures, as well as one small bald spot on the cab just north of the front left corner. All of the original hardware is present, including the tilt-back chrome legs, nickel corners, handles, sphinx glides (feet), and Fender logos. The faceplate is also quite clean and complete with original witch hat knobs. 1962 Fender Bassman 6G6B Blonde Brownface Vintage Piggyback Tube Amp Jensen C12N

Up for sale, a 1962 Fender Bassman in excellent condition and in perfect working order. An early iteration of the “Piggyback” version of this amplifier with rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth, this Brownface Bassman drives two vintage General Electric 6L6GC power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brownface circuits respond well to picking dynamics with Fender’s hi-fi, glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a huge range and after around 5 on the volume dial the amp cascades into very rich tube overdrive that compresses noticeably and sounds great. It’s the kind of natural tube saturation that only comes from pushing a well designed Fender circuit to its limit. A Pre-CBS Fender Blonde Bassman was used on more Beatles recording sessions than the Vox AC30, was a particular favorite of Pete Townshend, and has become the amp forever linked with Brian Setzer’s classic Rockabilly tones. It’s hard to beat the Bassman for a tone that bridges the gap between the warmth and nuance of the Brownface circuits and the shimmery cleans of the Blackface line! The circuit is very original and has been well maintained and recently serviced with fresh filter caps and a modern three-prong power cable. All of the famed blue Ajax tone caps are intact in the preamp, with stock Stackpole pots, carbon comp resistors, and cloth wire. All of the Schumacher transformers are original with mid 1962 date codes. The output transformer dates to the 17th week of’62, while the power transformer dates to the 20th week of that year. The tube chart is mostly intact too. The tube compliment includes a pair of vintage General Electric 6L6GC power tubes that have been properly biased, and the preamp tubes are mostly vintage valves as well from the likes of RCA and General Electric. The speaker cabinet is a rare transitional small box design that has the same dimensions as the 1×12 Tone Ring cab that preceded it, along with the internal “fins” on the back panel and a partial central divider on the original baffle. Fitted with a pair of vintage Jensen C12N speakers, these drivers are an optimal pairing for the 6G6B Bassman circuit, and while these speakers aren’t original, they do date to early 1964 and are the same make and model used in many’60s Bassmans. Cosmetically, this is an excellent and well kept example of one of Fender’s most desirable Pre-CBS circuits. Both the head and cabinet retain their original rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth. In terms of hardware, the plastic “dogbone” handle on the head is original, while the handle on the cab is a modern replacement. The original faceplate is intact and quite clean, complete with original white barrel knobs. All other hardware is 100% stock, with original tilt-back chrome legs and stops, sphinx glides (feet), flat metal Fender logos, nickel corners and piggyback clip bars. This Pre-CBS Fender piggyback amp features original smooth blonde tolex and a AA763 circuit, typically only seen on the very first Blackface amps. The rare combination of cosmetics on this amp was only seen from the last months of 1963 through mid-64, and this amp sounds particularly good with the original pair of Oxford 12L6 ceramic speakers. This amp delivers the incredible cleans which are a hallmark of the Blackface tone, with sparkle, clarity and definition unlike any amps before or since. The tremolo has a nice strong pulse, with a wide range of speeds from swampy and slow to machine gun fast chop. The circuit is very clean and original, with the stock Schumacher power transformer dating to late’63 and an era-correct Bandmaster output transformer also produced by Schumacher and dating to early’66. All of the original blue molded Ajax capacitors are intact in the preamp and an essential part of the Blackface Fender tone, while the main filter caps have been upgraded to F&T caps to ensure that the circuit is working optimally. A three-prong power cable has also been installed. The CTS pots date to the 34th week of 1963. In terms of the tube compliment, the amp is outfitted with a vintage pair of General Electric 6L6 tubes which have been properly biased, along with a vintage preamp tube assortment including RCA and General Electric valves. The original tube chart is mostly intact inside the head and, the cab retains the original Oxford 12 ceramic 12L6 speakers with clean black frames and pristine model and date codes. All of the stock cabinet hardware is intact including pat. Pending tilt back legs, corners, jack, sphinx glides and piggyback head inserts. The original smooth blonde tolex shows some scuffs and light signs of wear on the edges of the enclosures. Both the head and cab have new gold sparkle grillcloth and the original pair of raised Fender logos are present. The back panel on the head is a modern Mojotone replacement, and all of the original fiberglass baffling is included in the speaker cab. This early Blackface Bandmaster features stock transformers and speakers, vintage tubes, and a clean bill of health from our techs here at Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar.
