Vintage Tube Amp

This has been gone over by a tech with the capacitors and resistors replaced and any weak tubes. Speaker is original with numbers of 220034 10J11 V1373. It is working and loud on input #2. It has no hum at all until you plug a guitar cable into it and then it has a low hum/buzz on input #2. Hum does get louder as the volume is turned up but I can’t hear it when the guitar is playing. You can see the parts that were replaced in the bags I show and the old parts are included. Also a new feed power wire has been put on both the amp and pedal. The 1/8 rca plug on the pedal plugs in very tight. Cosmetically some of the covering needs glued back down and there are some stains and missing covering. Gibson logo on the grill side is partially missing and there is some wear to the cloth grill. Last to note is that the cover for the tubed section is not original and you need to drill the 4 holes to mount it yourself. It is the correct size and fit and a tweed material but does not quite match the rest of the amp. Base is 20″ wide x 8 3/4″ deep. Height is 17 1/4 with the carrying handle folded down. Age is late 1950′s to early 1960′s. Lettering on the metal plate is pretty good. I’m not sure if the nobs are original or not–they could be replacements but certainly close to original if they are. I will be listing several of these with this one being the best looking. I’m rather disappointed that input 1 did not work as when I bought it I was told it was fully working—and it is other than that input. Tubes are 12AX7, pair telefunken ECL82, 5Y3GT. I believe the speaker code dates this one to 1960. The items I sell Might or Might not be from a smoke free home. This is a wonderful example of an early American made Sunn Solarus Tube amp head. These amps were used by Jimi Hendrix, Leslie West and many others. This one is in fine shape, a real survivor! It looks to be original w/o any major modifications. Someone along the way has replaced one of the transformers and added an extra long three pronged A/C cord. (Very handy) Has the original spring reverb tank that works and sounds great. The mid boost switch appears not to work. There are four inputs (two Bright and two Normal) Has Volume, Treble, Bass, Contour… Rate & Depth (for tremolo) & Reverb knobs that work flawlessly and are not scratchy when adjusted. Has On/Off, Stand By & Polarity Switches. Works well with pedals! Has two speaker inputs. One 16ohms and one 8ohms. Has an input for tremolo & reverb on/off pedal, (pedal not included) The tolex is in very good shape. No rips or tears and the handle is safe and secure. It uses two EL34s for power tubes and is rated at 40 watts. As you can see in the pictures, the chassis has been dated September 8 1969 in red marker. The same date appears on a round sticker on the side of the chassis The Sunn Musical Equipment Company’s history is about as “American Dream” as it gets. After a Portland-based band (The Kingsmen) had a little hit song called “Louie, Louie” in 1963 and found their amplifiers couldn’t fill larger halls, they enlisted the help of a family member to build them louder amps and thus Sunn was born. This guitar and amp are very very nice. When got this from the original owners wife, it had a tall nut, the guitar was used for slide guitar, it has literally no fret ware. The original nut was included and is back on the guitar, It plays , sounds and looks excellent. Guitar and tube amp extends a true vintage electric guitar sound. This one is in exceptional condition displaying very little wear. This guitar was used most of its life as a slide guitar, which explains why there is little to no fret wear. You would be hard pressed to find a cleaner example of such a RARE and desirable vintage Danelectro guitar and comes with its original chipboard case. I love this guitar, I really do. And have enjoyed playing it. Volume and tone controls are fully functional. Guitar plays really nice, Sounds great through the amp. Very beautiful vintage finish. Cool looking vintage Marathon vacuum tube Guitar and Instrument Amplifier. See photos for a good look. The cord looks good enough that I went ahead and plugged it in. It powers up, all the tubes light up, no alarming noises during the several minutes I left it On… But the amp sounds pretty sad… Has rattles and some buzzing, mostly from the speaker or cabinet, and maybe loose components I’m guessing. Two of the tubes are metal and two are glass. The control layout is… On/Off switch which is also the Tone control (Bass), the second knob is Tremolo (it works), last knob is Volume, (Loudness). All the controls worked when I tested them. There are three 1/4 inputs. An interesting and perhaps rare amp, it will not however replace your favorite vintage Fender or Marshall, it’s just a cool old practice amp really, more of a curiosity then usable stage amp.
