Vintage Tube Amp

This mono tube amp would be a great project for anyone who knows how to work on tube amps or wants something to learn on. Great if you have one already and need another for stereo! Altec Lansing is known in the studio and in the hi-fi world for their quality craftsmanship and stellar audio equipment. Serial number looks like 2404 but it’s hard to read on the chassis. The unit powers up and the visible tubes begin to glow except for the 6CG7. I haven’t tested it any further. Please see photos for the specific physical condition of the unit. All of the lights on the front panel light up when switching to their respective source. I wish I could fix it up myself but I don’t have the wherewithal. You are looking at a Vintage 1980′s Seymour Duncan Convertible 100 Watt Tube Combo Amp. This amp has a very unique feature. It contains sound modules. (See pictures #10, #11, #12). This Amp has modules: (2) Classic Warm Tube, Hi Gain, Hi Gain Hybrid and 2 extra modules Presence and another Hi-Gain Hybrid. The Amp also has a wattage selector switch which controls the amount of power to the grid. It ranges from 5 Watts to 100 Watts. This a 100 watt, all tube combo with interchangeable pre amp tube module to shape and alter the tonality and power of the amplifier. It’s kind of a killer precursor to today’s modeling amplifiers, albeit, an all tube modeler. Other killer features include an effects loop, variable damping, reverb, pentode/triode mode and a built in attenuator system that takes the amp from 5 watts to 100 watts. Tonally, this one is pure beast! It has a big, mountainous tone! Smooth, round, fat clean tone. Massive, room filling power and projection. The gain and overdrive on this a very reminiscent of a vintage Mesa Boogie, very creamy and syrupy sounding! Up for sale, a 1966 Ampeg Gemini G-12 in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. Remarkably clean and original with a complete vintage tube set and stock two-button Reverb/Tremolo footswitch, the Gemini G-12 is a two-channel affair with a warm and detailed range of tones. The cleans are robust, with great headroom and sparkling, snappy sounds that were designed with the Jazz player of the day in mind and tweaked for maximum fidelity. At full volume, the amp does push into smooth tube overdrive with some sizzle and roar, and the onboard effects are particularly noteworthy. As the company that pioneered onboard Reverb in their combo amps, it’s no surprise that this Ampeg’s iteration of this effect is lush and full with plenty of splash and great decay. Not to be outdone, the tremolo has a thick, choppy quality, and both effects are easily accessed via the included original footswitch. The circuit is virtually untouched, with original transformers that date to’66 and CTS pots which also date to the 15th week of the same year. Not a solder joint is out of place and the original green Cornel Dubilier caps are all present in the preamp. The speaker is the original Jensen C12Q with a clean blue frame, original foil label on the magnet bell, and date code from the 15th week of’66. The tube chart is also intact inside the cabinet. In terms of the tube compliment, the amp is outfitted with the original Sylvania-made and Ampeg-branded 6V6s along with ostensibly the entire original preamp tube compliment. Cosmetically, this amp is a real stunner with a faceplace so polished and clean that it made it difficult to capture the details of the original white silkscreened graphics which are completely intact along with the original set of knobs. The blue diamond checker covering is also exceptionally well kept and paired with the original silver sparkle grillcloth. Even the original leather handle is still in one piece!
