Real Deal Blackface 1965 Fender Pro Reverb. This is a wonderful players grade example of this classic 2×12 Tube Amp. 1968/69 Power and Output Transformers. Original Finger Jointed Pine Cabinet and Tolex. Original 2-Prong Power Cord. Recent model Jensen C12K Speakers. Missing Tilt Back Leg Stops, preamp tube shields and Back Panels. First and foremost, this amp sounds amazing. Its everything you would expect a blackface fender amp to be. The reverb is lush. The amp has that legendary clean, with that secret sauce blackface texture that just FEELS good when you’re playing through it. The tremolo is a bit weak however. Most likely needs a new optocoupler. The cabinet has seen better days. It doesn’t rattle or anything, but cosmetically its missing the back panels and the nubs the tilt back legs rest on. It is the original finger jointed pine cabinet however, and the tube chart is more or less in tact. The baffle has been replaced before and newer Jensen speakers have been installed. The power and output transformers have been replaced with units from 1968/1969 (same AA165 circuit). The pots are original. The latest original date code I can find on the amp is the 44th Week of 1965 on one of the potentiometers. I’ve included a picture of this particular one, as well as the date codes of the transformers, choke, serial number, and tube chart. Its been serviced before and the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced, including Sprague Atoms in the filter caps. The original 2-Prong power cord remains. Tubes are mostly newer Groove Tubes, and it has a 5U4 in the rectifier position from the previous caretaker. This is a great example of a Blackface Pro Reverb, and the supply of these amps is only decreasing, and their value is only increasing. Pr Altec 340A Vintage Tube Amplifiers, 1950s, Clean, Serviced, Close SN. S/N: 461 & 466. Both amps have the same Peerless transformers. Parts number on the Peerless decals: Power 6142, output 16345. Very close serial numbers clean 1950s matched pair. Amps are the same circuit – schematics are paper labels on the bottom pan. No modifications to circuit design. At some point, most likely the 60s or 70s three of the same front end capacitors in each amp were changed to vintage Cornel Dublier and Sprauge. There a few very minor chips along the bottom edges of the amps. Chassis and transformers are rust free and the paint has the original glisten. The camera picked up all kinds of reflections in the paints during the snapshots. It is not unusual to see some potting compound leak from the transformers. In this case there are stains under the output transformers of each amp. In my experience this is not a sign of any trouble. Raytheon 6550 output tubes have been tested and matched on an Amplitrex AT1000. I have experienced Raytheon 6550 tubes in government contractor’s inventory. Raytheon made a very high quality product. The AT100 does a very thorough job of testing each tube twice and carefully testing for gas and increased current draw during each tube tested. The 12AY7 and 12AU7 front end tubes are quality vintage 1960s tubes, and measure almost high. What makes these amps so unusual and have such great sound is the 0A2 regulator tube on the 6550 screen voltage. Regulation is an added expense in manufacture cost but the sound quality makes it all worthwhile. This is a solid pair of classic low production amps that sound very clean, much cleaner sound than the competition’s 6550 amplifiers. The combination of clean detailed sound and the characteristic tube amp sound quality sounds great even today. New owner should be aware power supply capacitors this old will need replacement at some time. Please have the services of an experienced tube technician for future parts upgrade. Up for a sale in this nice little Carvin combo I bought new years ago and has seen only limited, smoke-free studio use. It’s got a UK-made Celestion Vintage 30 12 speaker which go by themselves on the used market for about a hundred bucks. Amp was made in the Carvin factory in San Diego and, alas, made no more because Carvin is out of the amp business. It’s got great spring reverb something that’s kind of hard to find these days. It sounds a lot like a Fender Princeton. Just loud enough for you. Here’s what Carvin says about the amp: The Vintage 16 is the low-wattage, “boutique” recording tube amp so many players are looking for. Everything about this little amp “oozes” tone. Dickerson Guitar Lap Steel Amplifier. Dickerson became Magnatone in mid 1950s. Tubes: 6V6 power, 6SJ7 preamp, 5Y3 Rectifier. Cool guitar or harp amp project. Cosmetic Condition is very good. Some light rust to rear chassis. Amp was given some new capacitors at some point. It is a working amp but the output is low. I don’t know how loud this little amp gets. But I suspect it is louder than its current performance level. This is a vintage amplifier that even in its. It will need servicing. And possibly other items to keep it working. And maximize its sound potential. Any operation of this amplifier is at buyers own risk.
