Up for sale, a Sears Silvertone 1448 “Amp-in-Case” student model electric guitar and original tube amplifier built into the case. A short scale affair, this Silvertone has a particularly sweet hollow twang and a sparkle and breadth to the tone that belies the guitar’s simple construction and layout. Perfect for serious players and collectors alike, this set is clean and 100% original, with the trim around the guitar retaining a bright white color and the top and back featuring a deep black metalflake sparkle finish. This set is complete, right down to the elastic retainer for the original two-prong power cord and the original 1/4 cable. Even the vintage tubes are intact, and the amp fires up just as well as the day it left the factory, with a low noise floor and great class A tube tone. The guitar weighs 5lbs 4oz and has been setup with low action. The neck has a slender C shaped profile which stays fairly consistent in depth as you travel up the fretboard, measuring. 846 deep at the first fret and filling out to. 993 at the 12th fret. The original medium jumbo frets show virtually no wear on the Brazilian rosewood fretboard, with is a particularly nice cut of wood with dark chocolate stripes up the board. The original aluminum nut measures 1 3/4″ and the scale length is a mere 23 5/8″, perfect for effortless chording. The face of the headstock retains a very clean “Silvertone” script silkscreen logo, and the original “Skate Key” tuners are intact and function as intended. The electronics are untouched, with the original pots intact in the copper shielding tape “box, ” still sealed with factory tape. The chrome is very clean and the knobs retain their original paper Volume and Tone caps. Cosmetic wear is very minimal, and the guitar exhibits a few light scuffs on the pickguard as well as a. Few minor nicks and marks of wear primarily on the back and around the body horns. Overall, this 1448 is a notably clean example! The amplifier case is in good overall shape, with original wicker grillcloth, stock speaker and clean faceplate. The stock transformer is mounted to the frame of the speaker and dates to’65. The dark gray sparkle case retains the original hinges and handle, with some light wear on the case exterior, but nothing notable or structural. All tubes are vintage tubes and included. I also think the preamp is in original form, no modifications. I plugged it in for testing and both channels worked and produced good music. I found the Spare (and probably other) input has one channels dropped. I tried “Special” and then OK. So, this preamp may need some cleaning and adjustment before daily use; just like all vintage electronics. Physical condition is pretty good for the age. Some discoloration/wear/scratches, as shown on the pictures. All knobs are original. This is a working Heathkit W-6A mono tube amplifier. All of the large filter can capacitors were replaced by previous owner. The W6A is preferred over the W6M because of improvements. Bias circuit improved (extra adjustment pot, on top). Added ON-OFF switch that W6M doesn’t have. Added Volume control that W6M doesn’t have. Coupling capacitors have been checked out and replaced as needed by previous owner. The output transformer is the highly reguarded Peerless 16431. Google this for all the reviews. This is a super clean 64 transition Fender Princeton. The 6G2 circuit is the one with no reverb but the tube driven tremolo. I bought this from someone who deals with estates and it looks like it sat in someones closet untouched for years. A few dirt smudges here and there but overall it is in incredible condition. Amp was just serviced by Skip Simmons amp repair. He has a website if you are not familiar with him and he repairs vintage amps from all over the country. The only components that have been changed are a can cap that was bad and a volume pot. Some of these transitional Princetons came with a 250k volume pot from the factory instead of a 500k volume pot as designed. All orginal parts will be included. This amp will also come with a really nice heavy coveramp cover. You would be hard-pressed to find on in better condition. The amp will come with both the original speaker and a Jensen reissue. For some reason I could not get the original speaker to produce any sound. The cone is perfect and the speaker looks to be in perfect condition. Vintage McIntosh model MC240 Stereo HiFi Tube Amplifier in working condition. One owner, and amp is original with the exception of replacement power plug and 5 replacement tubes. All other tubes are original TeleFunken. Two of the TeleFunkens are cracked, so will need replacement to restore to pristine sound quality, but I owned before they blew so will vouch for the superb, clean sound this amp produces prior to said tube failure.
