Up for sale, a 1979 Music Man 112RP Sixty-Five in excellent, original condition and perfect working order. Launched in 1975, Music Man was founded by former Fender Plant Manager Forrest White, former Fender Sales Rep Tom Walker, and Leo Fender himself, with their very first product being an amplifier known as the “Sixty Five”. Being a hybrid affair, this amp matches a solid state preamp to an all tube power section, in this case EL-34s, providing plenty of headroom, with the warmth and fullness of a tube power section that can get as gritty as you want when the tubes are cooking! Making that easier, the amp features a Hi/Lo power switch, which actually works differently than most in that it’s not a 1/2 power switch, but rather a control for how much plate voltage the power tubes see, giving you control over the clean headroom where “Lo” is similar to a typical amp, and “Hi” sends a colder bias to the tubes. Tonally, this amp is very much in Fender territory with bold, sparkly cleans and dynamic grit. A later iteration of the Sixty-Five platform, this “RP” variant features onboard Reverb and Phasor [sic]. The three-spring Reverb is lush with a long decay, and the Phasor has a low noise floor (given where the effect is placed within the circuit) and rich, swooping textures. The amp also features Treble and Bass boost switches which adjust frequency ranges outside the Bass/Middle/Treble knobs for, as the original Music Man manual puts it, the equivalent of five-band equalization. The circuit is clean and serviced as needed, with a bevy of Sprague Orange Drops in the preamp and Schumacher transformers that date to’79. The original CTS pots date to the 12th week of 1979. The tubes are a pair of properly biased USA-made Sylvania EL-34s that have plenty of life left. The speaker is a non-original ceramic Celestion G12T-75 which handles the wattage of the amp well and voices the circuit in a pleasing way. Cosmetically, this amp is quite clean, with original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth. Naturally, there are a few minor scuffs and light wear on the edges of the enclosure as well as patina on the hardware, but overall this is a very well-kept vintage Music Man. I have for you a genuine ESTATE item… Please note the photographs. Marantz Model 8 Stereo Power Amplifier. Two-channel/stereo vacuum tube amplifier, 30 watts per channel, Serial No. 1954, built by the original (Saul) Marantz Company, Long Island City, New York. Based-on what Ive been able to find out. Essentially this Model 8 is two Model 5s on the same chassis. From the estate of the original owner, who, incidentally, was the son of a McIntosh executive; this unit was found alongside another Marantz tube amplifier, a Model 5, in a New Jersey estate. This Model 8 was subsequently taken to noted Marantz authority/repairer Bristol Electronics where it was vetted, tested, evaluated and sympathetically gone-over in general. It was brought-up very slowly on a Variac for 8 to 10 hours. Tubes were checked, tube pins and the bias tests switch were cleaned. RCA jacks were tightened, adjusted, etc, etc. Overall it was tested and gone-through to a point. A set of four (4) rubber feet were replaced (now black). 2 1/2A Slo Blo Fuse replaced. A used, nicely matched EL34 Tube fitted. Replaced original parts (the old brown broken feet and fuse, etc) were kept and will accompany the unit for the sake of originality. While this unit has been tested and works, there are some items that were recommended. A new selenium rectifier, possibly of modern-type silicon diode variety; and a new rubber power cord, of the same style, should be fitted if you intend to use this piece and expect top performance, to the best of its potential. This Model 8 is a testament for what it is. A nice, original American tube amplifier thats highly sought after today. Its for the collector, is the better part of 60 years old and should be looked-at and used as such unless youre full aware of how to care for, tune and restore/enjoy these precision units. Pair of vintage Aegis Mullard 5-10 monobloc amplifiers. For sale a pair of fully renovated Aegis Mullard 5-10 Ultra Linear monobloc amplifiers. There is definitely an advantage to have a discrete amplifier for each stereo channel – lower crosstalk, less noise and less distortion. In listening tests I find these monoblocs perform better than the Leak Stereo 20, which whilst a similar design, shares a common power supply. An article detailing the renovation of these actual units was published in Silicon Chip, October 2014. These two units, although physically different due to chassis style and output transformer orientation, are identical electronically. Both operate in Ultra Linear format with custom wound Transcendar output transformers and follow the Mullard design precisely. Input sensitivity has been adjusted to 300mV for 10W output into 8 load so a CD player can be used directly as the input source. The current set of valves are almost new no more than 100 hours use. Output: Matched quad EL84 – JJ. Driver/Phase Splitter: Matched pair ECC83 with matched triode sections – JJ. Input: Matched pair EF86 – selected for low noise – Haltron. Rectifiers: EZ81 – JJ. The performance in all aspects is as good as or better than the Mullard specification. Please refer to the pictures, the article mentioned above and the Q&A at the end of this listing, as these form an important part of the description. These units have the provision for adding 90mm computer cooling fans, to the rear of the covers, should you wish to install them in an enclosed space. I can provide suitable fans if you are interested in this feature. Please note that these units do not currently have baseplates fitted and the internal wiring will be exposed if not mounted on a shelf or in a cabinet. As with all valve equipment these units must be treated with great respect from a safety perspective. There are high voltages and hot valves must definitely be kept away from prying fingers! I will however give whatever assistance I can to resolve any problems that should arise. I happy to arrange a demonstration of the item at a mutually convenient time. What are the output transformers you are using and why are there two different power transformers. The output transformers were wound to my specification by Transcendar in the USA. I required transformers to suit the Mullard specification for Ultra Linear configuration. Of the original output transformers one was faulty and the other was set up for Low Loading – so I replaced both with a matched pair. The power transformers are both original and of the same electrical specification. The fact that one is shrouded and the other open frame probably didn’t matter to Aegis as they were to be enclosed under the perforated covers. Have dac with fixed output of over 1 volt. Would that be fine? CD players typically have an output of 2V max and this works fine with these amps which have input gain controls. I can also adjust the input to suit any input requirement from 40mV upwards should that be necessary. This Bell 2200B mono integrated tube amplifier does not power on. The 1.6-amp safety fuse is blown. I don’t know the history of this amp, so I did not attempt to replace the fuse or test it any further. It has been cleaned up a bit so you can get an idea of its actual cosmetic condition (please inspect and enlarge the detailed photos). Tubes were manufactured by Sylvania, Tung-Sol and GE.
