1961 Fender Bandmaster Vintage Pre-CBS Tube Amp Blonde with 1×12 Tone Ring Cab
Friday, June 19th, 2020Up for sale, a 1961 Fender Bandmaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Extremely original and complete right down to the matched pair of original “dogbone” handles and even the stock speaker cable, this is the very first iteration of the “Piggyback” Bandmaster with a head/cab configuration, decked out in original rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth. What makes this exceedingly early Brownface Bandmaster stand out from the pack is the Tone Ring 1×12 speaker cabinet, loaded with a vintage Oxford 12L6 alnico magnet speaker. An elegant and ingenious idea (yet not cost effective for Fender), the Tone Ring design was dropped in mid-1961. This Brownface circuit drives two matched vintage Sylvania small bottle 6L6 power tubes for 40 powerful watts of pure tube goodness. Like the Tweed amps that preceded it, the Brownface circuits are very dynamic and responsive, delivering Fender’s hi-fi glassy clean tones. The EQ controls have a positively huge sweep, from thick and mellow to biting, twangy snap. After around 5 on the volume dial, the amp cascades into very rich tube overdrive that compresses a bit and feels slightly loose and gritty in just the right way without losing too much clarity. It’s the kind of natural tube overdrive that only comes from pushing a well-designed Fender circuit. The Harmonic Vibrato circuit is also a complex design only found on the top tier Brownface models, utilizing three tubes and creating a lush pitch shifting effect that has more in common with a Leslie or Chorus than a traditional tremolo. As previously noted, one very unique and desirable feature of this Bandmaster is the ported Tone Ring speaker cabinet. This 1×12 enclosure was designed to deliver the clearest, most pure Fender tone via the Oxford speaker, and as such utilizes a dual baffle board design in which the speaker floats between the baffles, mounted to a metal tone ring. This design makes the cabinet work as a closed back, ported enclosure and you’ll notice greater range of your EQ controls, ample bass response, and an overall sweeter, balanced tone that you simply can’t get with any other Fender cabinet. The circuit is very original and has been well-maintained and recently serviced. The full compliment of original Schumacher-made transformers (Fender’s largest transformer supplier in th era) are intact, with date codes spanning the 25th-43rd weeks of’61. The preamp is virtually untouched, with all of the famed yellow Astron and blue Ajax tone caps intact, along with all of the original CTS pots which date to the 34th week of’61, carbon comp resistors, and cloth-covered wire. The filter caps and smaller bypass caps have been upgraded with modern components to ensure optimal performance. The tube compliment includes a pair of matched small bottle vintage Sylvania 6L6 power tubes, and the preamp tubes are a combination of modern and vintage valves. Cosmetically, this is an excellent and well-kept example of one of Fender’s rarest Pre-CBS designs, with clean and original rough blonde tolex and oxblood grillcloth. Both the head and cab feature original unbroken brown “dogbone” molded Fender handles too, a true rarity. The Tone Ring cab retains its original baffles, ring, and fiberglass insulation sheets, and the back panel has the distinctive vertical slats only seen on Tone Ring cabs. The faceplate and backplate are in great shape, and all of the original cream barrel knobs are present. Both flat Fender logos are original on the head and cab and all additional stock hardware is present too, with tilt-back chrome legs, leg stops, sphinx glides (feet), nickel corners, and piggyback clip bars. 1970s Traynor YBA-1 Bass Master Mark II Vintage Tube Guitar Amp Head, Serviced
Wednesday, June 17th, 2020Up for sale, a 1970′s Traynor YBA-1 Bass Master Mark II tube amplifier head in excellent condition and in perfect working order. Fully serviced and very original, this head drives a matched pair of EL34 power tubes, generating an ample 45 watts. Made in Canada and fully hand-wired with giant Hammond transformers, this amp has significant clean headroom and passes a ton of low end. Known as the poor mans Marshall, the circuit can be easily modified to that of a classic 4-input design, yet in its stock configuration the YBA-1 can already harness that rich Tweed-meets-U. Blend which is this Traynor’s sonic signature. With Volume controls for each channel as well as a global EQ, this amp can be used to power a variety of different instruments (such as a bevy of vintage keyboards) or simply a single guitar or bass, providing a bold, clean power amp that works well with effects pedals. This Traynor has abundant low end response, and the large transformers keep the sound tight and full. This YBA-1 has a very original circuit, with all of the original Hammond transformers and a preamp that retains all of the original pots as well as the mustard tone caps which are essential to the tonal color of this head. The power supply includes new F&T capacitors to ensure optimal performance. The amp is currently loaded with a trio of vintage 12AX7 (7025) preamp tubes as well as a matched pair of Sylvania EL34 power tubes. The faceplate retains all of its original knobs, with most of the white screenprinting having been worn away. Smooth black tolex and a silver grill cloth cover the enclosure, with a good deal of scuffing and wear throughout, and there is evidence of black paint on the enclosure, specifically over the chrome bumpers. This Traynor lives up to the company’s reputation of delivering sturdy workhorse amps that perform reliably on stage and in studio situations. This vintage hand-wired Traynor YBA-1 Bass Master Mark II is a true sleeper that has been well played, but remains in top-notch performance condition. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! 2015 Vintage 47 Amps VA-185G Prototype #2 Tweed 1×12 Tube Combo Amp, EH-185
Wednesday, June 17th, 2020Up for sale, a 2015 Vintage 47 VA-185G Classic Series 1×12 combo tube amp in near mint condition and in perfect working order. The EH-185 was made famous in the late 1930s and early’40s by guitar greats such as Django Reinhardt and Charlie Christian, and the amp delivers a distinctive low gain harmonic-rich overdrive with the complex midrange character of an octal valve-driven preamp. In addition to nailing the sonics of the original, the Vintage 47 rounds out the period-correct aesthetics with a lacquered tweed-covered cabinet bisected by a red racing stripe, central rear-mounted chassis with Gibson-style graphics, chicken head knobs, and a leather handle. The VA-185G is simplicity at its finest, and the point-to-point wired circuit boasts individual Volume and Tone controls for the single channel design, with dual 1/4 Instrument jacks and a lower gain 1/4 Mic input. The tube compliment includes a pair of JJ 6L6 power tubes in a Class AB push pull configuration for 15 sweet, all-tube watts. The power tubes are cathode biased (no biasing required), and a GZ34 rectifier, 6SN7 inverter, and a NOS metal jacketed 6SQ7 round out the tube compliment. The speaker is the original Tone Tubby alnico magnet 12 driver, with a clean black frame and V47 foil sticker on the magnet. Cosmetically, this combo tube amp is in near mint condition. The finger-jointed baltic birch cabinet is covered in lacquered tweed, which is clean as can be, and the silkscreening on the control panel is perfectly preserved with a pair of red chicken head knobs. A fitted cover is included. Check out our shop “Mike & Mike’s Guitar Bar, ” and please let us know if we can answer any questions! Vintage 1950′s Stadium Tube Amp Re-Capped
Monday, June 15th, 2020The Old Capacitors were swapped out with new Sprague and Orange Drop Capacitors. When I first got the amp it hummed very bad and passed no guitar signal through. Now the amp has very little to no hum but still does not pass a guitar signal through. The On/Off Switch has been replaced as the original post came out of the socket. The speaker has no tears and the amp cabinet looks structurally sound for its age. The Amp Handle is new and not original as well as the rubber feet. The grill cloth is original and has no tears. Included are the original capacitors and on/off poteniometer. The tubes have all been tested on an Eico 666 Tube Tester. The item “Vintage 1950′s Stadium Tube Amp Re-Capped” is in sale since Monday, April 27, 2020.
