Up for sale, a 1965 Fender Vibro Champ in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. This Vibro Champ has a number of early features including the Pre-CBS-era “Fender Electric Instrument” faceplate and no-logo grill. This little Blackface-era Fender wonder delivers five watts of pure Class A tube tone. A surprisingly loud amp via an upgraded alnico magnet 8 speaker, the Vibro Champ offers warm, dynamic cleans before pushing into smooth, lightly compressed tube overdrive as you turn up the Volume dial. Responsive to your picking dynamics, and absolutely huge sounding when you put a microphone in front of it, it’s hard to beat the Vibro Champ for pure simplicity and great tone. And of course, Fender’s lush sounding tremolo circuit has a strong pulse and wide range of speeds, perfect for subtle shifts in volume or machine gun chop. The circuit is completely original save for the a few smaller electrolytic caps in the preamp. The stock Schumacher-made transformers date to the 14th week of’65 (power) and 13th week of 1965 (output), and visible codes on the CTS pots date to the 30th week of’64. The tube chart is fully intact with an “OF” stamp which translates to June of 1965. The tube compliment includes a modern Groove Tubes 6V6 power tube, vintage GE 5Y3 rectifier tube, and matched USA-made Sylvania preamp tubes. The original smooth black tolex and silver sparkle grillcloth are extremely clean, with very little darkening of the grillcloth and sparingly little wear on the tolex. The faceplate is very well-kept too, complete with its full compliment of witch hat knobs. The stock handle caps, sphinx glides (feet), and chassis straps are all intact, and the hardware shows sparingly little surface patina. This Vibro Champ is an ideal example of Blackface tone that sure to delight both discerning collectors and serious players. This is a very nice 1964 Fender 6G2 Princeton, serial P08161. It came from a fellow who was thinning out his collection. I’m showing it exactly as we received it. I haven’t polished it up or anything like that. It’s a little dusty but will clean up well. The trim is in great shape and all metal components are free of any significant surface-rust. The grill cloth is original and looks great except for the one hole you see in the photos. Aside from the speaker being replaced with a Fender aftermarket unit, it appears to be all original. I haven’t taken the amp out of the cabinet, but I’m assuming it still has all of the original capacitors in place. Please replace these before putting the amp into full-time service. I haven’t checked the tubes, so there’s a chance they should be replaced as well. Aside from that, this one should be good to go! EXTREMELY RARE, one of the coolest 1960s Vintage UNIVERSAL/VERSATONE by Audio Guild Corp. TUBE COMBO PROFESSIONAL AMPLIFIER in excellent for this year Physical and Working condition. Has 2-way speakers system with 3 separate chambers – for 12 UTAH L. WOOFER, 8 JENSEN SOUND LABORATORIES HIGH FIDELITY LOUDSPEAKER and one of the Chambers is EMPTY (see pics). ALL SPEAKERS AND ALL ANOTHER PARTS ORIGINAL, INCLUDING REVERBERATOR SYSTEM, NOTHING CHANGED. EVERYTHING IN EXCELLENT PHYSICAL AND WORKING CONDITION. JUST SMALL DENT ON THE FRONT LOGO PANEL AND SOME WEARS ON THE CORNERS OF THE CABINET (see pics), BUT IT DOESNT AFFECT ON THE AMAZING SOUND. THIS IS THE PROFESSIONAL MODEL as compared to the student model, Bonham or Lyric that are usually for sale. Similar ones were used for recording 1960′s Surf Tunes and other clean Hi-Fi sounds. Audio Guild was established by Magnatone designer, Donald Bonham. Audio Guild amps were designed by Don Bonham, post Magnatone, and exist under a few different brand names. Amps manufactured in Van Nuys, California in 1960/70s. After leaving Magnatone in the 1960s, chief engineer Don Bonham went on to form the Audio Guild Corporation. Since Bonham owned the patent, the amps featured the same pitch-shifting vibrato circuit that made Magnatone amps famous. Bonham was an engineer with the Hammond Organ Co before he started building amps, so it was only natural he would be interested in the vibrato effect. Bonham believed in the highest quality sound and innovation. The Audio Guild amps he produced in the late 60s were used by pros in the studio where the highest fidelity was much more important than brute power. Carol Kay, the most popular studio bass player in Hollywood, used his amp, also how the Beach Boys used it. Bonham was a big fan of Acoustic Suspension speakers. Unheard of in instrument amps, A. Speakers could not mounted in open cabinets, the large, unrestrained cone travel would destroy the speaker. But Bonham didnt want to use the usual cabinet design of a box filled with foam to dampen the boxs resonate frequency, the foam also lowered efficiency. So Bonham designed a cabinet with a small chamber next to the speaker chamber, with a small hole between the chambers that acted as a valve. It allowed the speaker to function at max efficiency while eliminating any resonating frequencies. A technology Bonham borrowed from the HiFi world was bi-amping. The input was split into high and low frequencies and amplified separately, for a cleaner sound. Donnald Bonham didnt make the loudest or the most, he just made the best. This Dynakit ST-70 amp is fairly dirty from sitting in storage for so long. I have no idea when it was last used. It’s been modified with some gold RCA connectors, and there may be more mods under the chassis. Please note that the EL34 tubes that are included are not Mullards, but rather National that claim to have been made in Germany. My guess is that they were made in Russia. No GZ34 is included, nor is a cover. This one will make a great parts unit or candidate for restoration. This piece of equipment is believed to have not been used in years (possibly decades). It will almost certainly need some level of service. This may include: replacement of electrical components (such as capacitors, resistors, diodes, tubes, etc), cleaning of controls, alignment, and so forth. Before you call me crazy for the list price, please read below carefully… The upgrade started with a full factory condition 60-year-old Leak Stereo 50 from my personal collection, which I decided to be giving all the best possible components that an amp can ever get. All electrolytic capacitors are changed to Rubycon Black Gate F and Elna Cerafine. 3x 47+47uF 500V Elna Cerafine. 4x 220uF 50V Black Gate F. 2x 47uF 25V Black Gate F. 4x vintage NOS Jensen Aluminium PIO coupling capacitors for the power tubes. Vintage Philips HQ caps for the preamp tubes. NOS Telefunken GZ34 / 5AR4 West Germany rectifier tube. Quartett of Mullard Blackburn Gr. Britain EL34 power tubes (3x XF3, 1x XF2). Vintage 1x Mullard Blackburn ECC83, 2x RFT Germany ECC83. Genuine WBT NextGen 0708cu banana speaker terminals. The amplifier is perfect working and with these components combines the classic British tube warmth with the focus, precision, detail, soundstaging of the best modern amps. The Black Gate, Cerafine caps work wonders in terms of supreme sound quality, controlled bass, dynamics, while the Mullard EL34 tube together with the Jensen caps provide the amplifier an authentic, palpable, lifelike sound that is hard to believe. I was finetuning the sound using a pair of JBL 4343 studio monsters. Now about the German components: The Telefunken GZ34 and the 2x RFT ECC83 are installed with a good intent, to bring some more precision and control to the sound… Not too little, not too much, just the right balance (they are needed there, believe me). With the Mullard ECC83 on the forefront, match made in heaven. Again, the components and the tubeset is not installed on the look what I found in the closet basis! I was spending weeks of listening, then tube rolling and changing components to get to this sound signature. TCC original 16+16 and 32+32 caps back along with NOS Philips 100uF 50V and put Roederstein (ERO) coupling caps, then install a quartet of NOS Siemens EL34 tubes and maybe a new production JJ G34 and off you get an instant EUR1000 off the price… And also majority of the sound magic off as well! You decide, if you like this way or the other, please let me know! Well let me tell you a story: a month ago a nice little amp, called Marantz 8B walked through my door onto the bench and with a full Black Gate upgrade now sounds better to my ears than the Leak of course talking about a couple more thousands of Euros too.. Amp is EU voltage: 210-250Volts! This is a genuine sales and thus I guarantee that what is in the pictures is exactly what you get unless if you want that EUR1000 off and all those expensive parts out… I do guarantee that you will receive a perfectly working amplifier, that is in a decent original factory visual condition (considering 60years of paint on it, obviously not sratch-free, see pictures for reference).
